An Evening With The Boxer Rebellion & Friends.

We are celebrating the end to an epic year with a night at The Bar Academy on Thursday December 10th with some extra special guests. Live music will come from band favourites 'Domino State' and 'Codes in The Clouds' with DJs sets from us and legendary producer Chris Sheldon (Biffy Clyro/Foo Fighters/Garbage).... We will also be raffling off signed merchandise, including CDs, posters and the cymbal and drum skins used in the recording of 'Union'. It goes without saying that night wouldn't be complete without a performance from the hosts so expect something a little different from us.

Its only a fiver, so come on down and celebrate this year with us.

Ok, so this is a little bit of fun (hopefully) for people following us on twitter, if you aren't then you should be! Basically, whoever is responsible for spreading the word and getting us the most followers on twitter by the end of January, will be the first person to hear a brand new song. However, you may not hear the song at the end of January but you will be the first!

So you to prove that you have got us the most followers, every time you get someone new to follow us, they must tweet @codesclouds then @(whoever is responsible for spreading the word).

Sound like fun? no? ok.

Current mood:  happy

David Wenngren aka Library Tapes crafted the most beautiful ambient remix of The Distance Between Us.

We met David at a show up in Manchester back in 2008 and Steve bought all of his records. Luckily our manager Robert remembered that and got in touch with him about doing a remix for this song as it means so much to Steve.

The result is breathtaking.

It's up in our player now.
Have a listen.

more news an Album 2 in early 2010.

oh, and check out the new Erased Tapes compilation which we are featured on with "Don'T Go Awash In This Digital Landscape" and it's FREE.

you should also check out our new label mate Nils Frahm.
we met him at his studio in Berlin whilst on tour in November.
his music is perfect for this season.
one of this track is also on the compilation.
enjoy!

yours

THANKS GERMANY, Switzerland, Holland and PG.LOST for an amazing tour!
We had the time of our lives.

And thanks for this too:

Codes In The Clouds – Paper Canyon (Erased Tapes / ERATP14CD)
01
Noch eine postrocky Emo-Band? Ja!

In English:

Another post-rocky emo band? Yes! And what a (band). On this badly trodden path, the fine line between genius and imitation runs very close to the heartbeat of our own feelings and they say: Thumbs up! The British quintet play their hearts out, threshing on the strings endlessly and sensationally, tipping the head-banging elements simply out of the bus (well, at least most of the time) and being simply, unbelievably good. Open doors are guaranteed.

Codes In The Clouds - Paper Canyon

A PERFECT STATEMENT OF INTENT...

It’s worrying, in music (and, perhaps, across the entire spectrum of the arts), just how quickly the inventive and acclaimed can become the stale and hackneyed. There’s no doubt that post-rock – a sub-genre tag invented by a journalist, rather than a direction identified by any musician – has received its share of critical knocks, with many an instrumental band playing up to all-too-familiar patterns in a quest for their own notion of ethereal majesty. But even when the pathways are well trodden, when the right steps are present and, importantly, correct, there’s no denying the power of this particular branch of contemporary rock.Codes In The Clouds have been bubbling gently in the underground for some time now, their detailed arrangements heard live but rarely seen racked; that, of course, changes with this release, their debut long-player, but presents the five-piece with a new problem: how to stand out from the crowd? How does one instrumental band with influences spanning Explosions In The Sky to Mono separate itself from a similar band, of a similar level of recognition, with similar compositional touchstones? Simple, really: deliver the goods really well. There’s little on ‘Paper Canyon’ that fans of this style of music won’t have heard in recent-years highs by This Will Destroy You, Caspian, Explosions et al; but the execution of the band’s chosen design is so accomplished, so wonderfully precise in its placement of roaring highs and simmering lows, that thoughts never drift to ‘better’ exponents.Opener ‘Fractures’ is a steady rolling five minutes of tense-and-release dynamics, percussively scattershot beneath whale song guitars, but it’s the following ‘Don’t Go Awash In This Digital Landscape’ that truly sets the hairs on end: a shimmering, crystalline structure of towering chords and brutally hammered out drum beats, it seems to play chicken with itself across its three minutes, a genteel number racing face first at an altogether more savage counterpart piece.‘Distant Street Lights’ finds the London group taking a temporary breather (although the track explodes into violent life in its final minute, so everything’s relative) before the twin onslaughts of ‘You Are Not What You Think You Are’ and ‘The Distance Between Us’. Both stretch to over nine minutes in length, but neither outstays its welcome; both present beauteous instrumental introspection to the fore prior to layering on the volume and awaiting the inevitable buckling; both are, in fairness, indebted to the work of a handful of sonic parallels, forefathers whose pioneering work has set up the raft of post-rockers currently plying their trade home and abroad. But neither feels like an echo of an already witnessed triumph, both sending jolts from shoulders to fingertips as the songs build, and build, and build.Expectations can hardly be high, in a commercial sense, for Codes In The Clouds – even the stars of their chosen field rarely play shows to more than a thousand-or-so people, at most, and then only in the metropolises. But in terms of a perfectly presented first statement of their intentions, ‘Paper Canyon’ is a valuable document that warrants significant attention from ears always eager to be taken away from the humdrum by nothing more than amplifiers and passion. They’ll earn peanuts, always, but you feel the souls of these musicians will forever be nourished.

8/10

codes-in-the-clouds_album-coverWhen a debut album like this comes along you know that it is an important moment in music when you hear it, and it only took them five days to record.
Codes in the Clouds are a Kent-based quintet who have been enjoying critical acclaim in the UK and the US since the release of their debut 7-inch Distant Strret Lights/Fractures in 2007. Paper Canyon put out by Erased Tapes Records is set to place the band firmly at the forefront of the UK post-rock scene.
Combining the atmospheric qualities of God is an Astronaut, the speaker ripping intensities of 65Daysofstatic and the fiery symphonic bliss of Mono
Combining the atmospheric qualities of God is an Astronaut, the speaker ripping intensities of 65Daysofstatic and the fiery symphonic bliss of MonoCodes in the Cloudsweave a harmonious sound of guitar melodies that at any second are liable to explode.
Their debut 7-inch B-side Fractures opens the album. A compelling piece of music that begins with a peaceful tempo and subtle guitar tones before a momentous explosion with senses enveloping energetic intensity. It’s gripping qualities continue throughout the album as simple a piano is engulfed by a wall of guitar on Don’t Go Awash in this Digital Landscape.

Although limited to the genre of instrumental rock the band are in no way limited without vocals. This album takes a symphonic approach. The listener is lifted and carried along by a mature understanding of sound intensities and harmonious melodies. The most noticeable journeys coming in We Anchor in Hope and You Are Not What You Think You Are.
Paper Canyon is a fragile piece of mature music from a band still in infancy. The six track epic debut is brought to a close by The Distance Between Us. A 10 minute journey from uneasy beginnings to swelling reflective and layered harmonies. But far from being a harmonious and soft ending to an explosive album the song erupts with the monumental symmetry of revelation as heavy distortion engulfs the surroundings and carries the song through until the intensity bursts and all that’s left is a contented timbre.
Fresh off a tour with This Will Destroy You Codes in the Clouds are going on the road to promote their debut album with a few dates planned for Ireland at the end of July.

'Is the world ready for yet another post-rock band? The answer is yes! "Paper Canyon" overflows with gaping gorges of pretty passages prone to gathering momentum before enveloping unsuspecting ears whole... A debut record of real maturity!'
