Check out our review in this month's Artrocker magazine! You can buy a copy of this awesome publication in any good newsagents (and certainly in W H Smiths).

"Short and sweet, that's how I like my pop songs. It would appear that indie threesome Modern Clichés are in agreement, with their latest offering 'Your Lucky Numbers' clocking in at a mere 2 1/2 minutes.

A well-constructed song with rich production and a catchy sing-along chorus, this is reminiscent of the great Aztec Camera. If this is a sign of things to come then I hope an album isn't too far behind. They should probably change their name though.

"As fine a piece of indie driven power trio pop as you'll hear for a while. Based on Chinnor Based Crash Records, Modern Cliches kept reminding me of the Buzzcocks, particularly over the title track "Yor Lucky Numbers". The songs and their delivery are showing a lot of promise and though it's difficult to judge over a couple of tracks I'd say all seems to bode well for the lads. A mate caught them at a gig recently and reckons they've got what it takes to conquer the live circuit. With a good break or two, there's a good chance you'll be hearing a lot more from this band."

As our Saturday night gig in Liverpool decended into a late night (and early morning) tour of the city with Ben, Cavern Promoter and Engineer, and our host for the evening, we were able to reflect on what had been a top week...

First of all a big thanks to those who came to our show at Punk in London on Wednesday night. It was great to play to a packed room, and we really enjoyed it. We hope you did too. Secondly there's a word for those who checked us out at the Cavern - we always enjoy playing in Liverpool, and it was a top night.

We also played a new song "Euston", which gave us a real buzz. We'll be working and refining that over the next few weeks, along with a number of other songs that are coming through. We are looking forward to playing them to you all at 93 Feet East - our first show of 2010...

"Given the average age of the band members, Your Lucky Numbers is a reassuringly mature retro-pop track. Guitars and drums combine to create a quality backing to Phil Warson's vocals. Very good. (CP)"

"Another new indie band hitting the scene this month with their second single 'Your Lucky Numbers'. Something to get excited about? Well not exactly, or so we first thought...

This track touches on the sound of the Libertines, who enjoyed significant success (despite Pete Doherty's antics) which is all good, but there are far too many sound-alike bands coming through these days who just lack that element of originality and seem to regurgitate what has already been done. We want to hear something new.

'Your Lucky Numbers' does have some merits itself, though. It's a fresh and raw sound that has not been overproduced, with a real live sound to it that leaves us unexpectedly intrigued.
 
Although originality is not a strong point, it does have an element of style and a charismatic sound - upbeat with feel good attitude.

Second track on the single, 'Other Things You Do', is an acoustic track with a more endearing quality that shows off a warming vocal performance and indicates that there may be more to this band than first meets the eye. From the first beats of the first track through to the end of the second track we have done a full 360-degrees and feel that they may just be worth a look live. Perhaps this is the way to fall in love with the Modern Cliches sound."

Now London residents, Modern Clichés are doing the utmost to begin some laborious months on London’s music circuit. The aim, to get every adolescent scamp bopping the head in approval to the trio ahead of their proposed debut EP due for release next year. Modern Clichés are Phil Warson (Vocals/Guitar), Ollie Brennan (Bass), and Andrew Payne (Drums). Signed to Crash Records the futures looking good for their courant melodic indie sound. Want to know more? Read below then…

Hey guys, how’s everything in Modern Clichés world at the moment?
Well thank you, enjoying London immensely, looking forward to getting out there and playing gigs.

Can you give our readers a quick summary on the band members background?
Met at school, started playing together before eventually starting a band properly. Now all moved to London.

And then describe each member using two words…
Andy – Studious, Tapping. Ollie – Jack & Coke. Phil – Time warp.

I’m sure you’ve been asked this a thousand times but for our readers, how did the name of the band come about?
Oxymoron that just seamed to fit at the time

You’ve got some great shows coming up soon at the Fly and Cavern etc…Which one are you guys looking forward to the most?
We are really looking forward to playing Punk next month, and seeing our friends up in Liverpool when we play the Cavern.

Producers lined up?
Still weighing up our options.

Your aspirations for 2010?
Get a load of new songs coming through, and get out there and play loads of gigs to show people what we’re all about. Release an EP and continue to build our following.

What have been the best shows you guys have played since you formed?
Monto Water Rats earlier this month was wicked... supporting Joe Lean and the Reverend.

What are the plans with your debut album?
We’re looking to do an EP next year with a load of new tracks coming through.

Hello… it’s been a short while.

 

We’re all down in London now, and enjoying the capital immensely. We all got together at Andy’s house for a practice last week, and have a new song coming through rapidly which is all good. Went to awsome exibitions on Bob Dylan and the Portrait and The Who at Proud Galleries. We’re hitting the rehearsal studios on Thursday before our big gig at Monto Water Rats on Friday.
