Check it out...the first review to our 11/03 CD release, the Hereness and Nowness of Things:

Esthema - The Hereness And Nowness Of Things
2009, Esthema

Boston’s Esthema may be one of the most original acts we’ve come across. A World Fusion band that takes that label to heart, Esthema blends Eastern European, Middle Eastern, South American and Far Eastern Sounds with Progressive Rock and Classical elements to create magic. Esthema released their debut album, Apart From The Rest in 2007, receiving significant positive press. They follow up on November 3, 2009 with their sophomore effort, The Hereness And Nowness Of Things.

Esthema leads off with Change Of Season, mixing Western, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern sounds in a dynamic musical composition that sounds like it should the opening score element of a major motion picture. The piece has a highly distinctive sound and style and is very enjoyable. The cultural genre-bending continues on Eastern Dance. Highly energetic and danceable, Eastern Dance varies significantly from the sort of popularized dance music currently in vogue, relying on pulsing and morphing organic rhythms that travel from percussion to strings and back again. The focus changes slightly on the Mediterranean flavored A Place To Rest before Esthema returns to a grand cinematic feel for Arrhythmia. Nuanced and vibrant, A Place To Rest co-mingles Middle Eastern and old world Spanish styles and sounds in pleasurable ways.

Four Colors features a vibrant, almost frantic energy in an explosively energetic dance number before Esthema rolls into Illusion Of Truth. Illusion Of Truth has a cloudy feel to it, with a theme that's roiled and punctuated by turbulence. It's as if "facts" and "truth" collide atmospherically in a cycle that never ends, winding and unwinding throughout the composition sparking sometimes storms and sometimes unsettled skies. Esthema closes our with the "Pop-iest" selection on the disc. On & On has a serene feel that's neither ethereal nor ambient but lends to a sense of transcendence. You can almost hear an arrangement of this forthcoming from Keith Lockhart.

We noted that Esthema's Apart From The Rest was a magical musical experience. On The Hereness And Nowness Of Things, Esthema leaves behind the magical world for the gritty, earthy charm of The Mediterranean, where culture upon culture washes upon the shore with sometimes unpredictable outcomes. The Hereness And Nowness Of Things is a musical breadbasket where loaves and fishes mix in fantastical ways and there's always enough to fulfill you as a listener, no matter how many times you return.

Rating: 4 Stars (Out of 5)

Greetings Everyone,

It has been a little while since our last email. We hope this finds you well.

First, let me start by thanking everyone that was able to make it out to the Mass Art Tower Auditorium last month for Esthema’s performance for the final event of the 8th Annual Turkish Film Festival. The continued love and support is sincerely appreciated. Pictures from the show will soon be available so stay tuned.

Over the past several weeks Esthema has been working like mad to prepare for this coming weekend, when we head into the studio to begin recording our next CD, The Hereness and Nowness of Things. Everything has definitely been falling into place and some real cool stuff has been coming out of the rehearsals. If all goes as planned, by the next time you receive a new update the recordings will be complete. The target release is August with the official CD release party in September. We will definitely keep you posted.

On some other uber exciting news, Esthema’s composition Distance from our CD, APART FROM THE REST was chosen as one of the pieces for the soundtrack of Waterfire Providence (http://www.waterfire.org/about-waterfire/music-waterfire) starting Saturday, June 13 and then used periodically throughout the season. For those not familiar with Waterfire Providence…
WaterFire Providence®, the award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art and a moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance. WaterFire’s one hundred sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the firetenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park. WaterFire has captured the imagination of over ten million visitors, bringing life to downtown, and revitalizing Rhode Island’s capital city.

If you are wondering how the music fits into the sculpture…
The music for WaterFire Providence is an integral component to the sculpture. The soundtrack interacts with the acoustics of the river walkways and the natural sounds of over 80 blazing fires.

For more details about Waterfire Providence, please visit http://www.waterfire.org/. This is a spectacular event, whether you are listening to Esthema or not and if you have a chance you should definitely check it out.

Amidst all the excitement, on Saturday, June 13 Esthema is going to be performing at the 119 Gallery (http://www.119gallery.org/) located at 119 Chelmsford St, Lowell MA 01851. This show begins at 8pm and is all ages. There is a suggested donation of $5.00 at the door. Join us if you can, for a relaxing evening in a super cool venue with a great atmosphere.

I think that is everything…at least for now, so until next time, take care.

Greetings,

Hope this finds everyone well…

For many of you the school semester is drawing to a close; finals are looming and summer travel plans are being made. In Boston, spring (at some points it has felt like summer) is in full gear. Red Sox nation is alive and well (just try to find parking on the night of game), the Celtics and Bruins are in the playoffs, and everyone is itching to be outside after a long winter.

Amongst all the spring excitement, on Saturday, May 9 Esthema will be performing at the Mass Art Tower Auditorium as part of the 8th Annual Boston Turkish Film Festival. The show is all ages with a $10.00 cover and will begin promptly at 8pm. This year’s film festival was a month long event (http://www.bostonturkishfilmfestival.org/) and Esthema is capping off the festivities on the 9th. Complete show details can be found at http://www.bostonturkishfilmfestival.org/2009Festival/concerts/esthema.html.

In addition to this email, there is a Facebook event circulating for this performance. Please forward both along to your friends and families. We would love to see you all there.

This show will be the first where Esthema t-shirts will be available. Sizes for both men and women are available. T-shirts are $12.00 each, 2 for $20.00.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank you for the support over the last couple of years. Our first CD, Apart From The Rest was released 2 years ago this summer and so many great things have happened since its release, many thanks to all of you. Now, as we are about to enter into the studio to record The Hereness and Nowness of Things we feel that a new chapter in Esthema’s life is about to begin. We are looking forward to sharing this new chapter with all of you.

Until next time...

Hello Everyone,

NEWS:
Last month, Onur (violin) was interviewed by on-line Turkish e-zine, Stereo Mecmuasi. The interview touched upon everything about Esthema, past, present, and future. For all of our Turkish speaking friends, you can check out the interview at http://www.stereomecmuasi.com/cihazlar/muziksayi1/esthema.htm. Coming Soon, a translation of the interview will be posted on our website. We’ll let you know when and where once it is posted. This month it is an abbreviated version of the interview. Stereo Mecmuasi will be publishing the entire interview in their March 2009 issue. So make sure to check back.

HAPPENINGS:
This month we are starting the Esthema Street Team. Members of the Street Team will help members of Esthema get the word out about events and happenings. Some of the things that members will do is help put up flyers (provided by us of course) in the surrounding area and provide local coffee shops with CDs, send out the Facebook Events to all their friends and if so inclined, create an Esthema Street Team Facebook page and maintaining that page for fans and Street Team members alike to post events, pictures, etc… Always open to suggestions, basically Street Team members will be an extension of Esthema. Unfortunately we will not be able to monetarily compensate Street Team members, but compensation will come via merchandise, free CDs, Guest List at gigs, listening to future recordings before they are released, and more things like that. You will never be obligated to do; this will be on a purely voluntary basis.

Going forward at all shows when signing up on the mailing list people will also be able to sign up for the Street Team. Since you are already on the mailing list, this one time request is being sent. If anyone wishes to be added to the Street Team please forward via email your hometown (City and State only) exclaiming your interest in joining the Street Team. You can send the email to streetteam@esthema.com. We will be in contact sometime thereafter with more details.

All the members of Esthema hope this finds you well.

2008 was a spectacular year for us with amazing reviews for our first CD, APART FROM THE REST (http://www.esthema.com/rev..iews.html) and gigs throughout New England, some at venues we had already performed in and some at new venues. We met so many new people (you) that signed the mailing list, became fans on Facebook and Friends on MySpace, that helped spread the word about our music, came to our shows, and shared all of our successes along the way. And to top it all off, as 2008 was counting down, we were informed that APART FROM THE REST was voted in the Top 25 Best CDs for 2008 at Indie-Music.com (http://www.indie-music.com../modules.php?name=News&fil..e=article&sid=7948)

All of this is thanks to you, that came to our shows, reviewed our CDs, told your friends about us, listed us on your blogs, bought our CD at a show, downloaded our mp3s from iTunes, listed a comment about APART FROM THE REST on CDBaby. We can’t express how grateful we are for the love and support we have received from everyone.

2009 promises to be another great year.
- The release of our second CD, The Hereness and Nowness of Things
- Interview and Feature on Grateful Web (www.gratefulweb.net) and a possible article on Esthema up at Skopemag.com
- Headlining World Wednesdays at Ryles on March 18
- An interview with Turkish e-zine, Stereo at http://www.stereomecmuasi...com/
- Establish the Esthema Street Team
- …and so much more that is still unknown and in the works.

Since the last time you heard from us, Esthema has been fervently working on the arrangements of and putting the finishes touch on the compositions that are going to be the make-up of The Hereness and Nowness of Things. We have the line-up pretty much cemented, of course that doesn’t mean that there may not be some last minute changes. Not all the compositions are going to make it on to the recording, but it has been fun trying to figure out which ones will.

To hear some new compositions and some of the ideas we have been working on, be sure to check us out at one of the following gigs coming up over the next couple of months.

Saturday, February 28
Venue: The Gulu-Gulu Café
Website: http://www.gulu-gulu.com/
Located at 247 Essex Street, Salem, MA.
Start Time: 8pm
Details: All Ages, No Cover

Wednesday, Match 18
Venue: Ryles
Website: http://www.rylesjazz.com/
Located at 212 Hampshire Street (Inman Square), Cambridge, MA
Start Time: 8pm
Details: 18 plus, $10.00 Cover
Guest Artist: COPAL (http://www.copalmusic.com/)

We are keeping our performance schedule light and our rehearsal schedule heavy this late winter and early spring to concentrate on the recording and the compositions. If you can make it out to the above performances, we promise you that you will hear new compositions and new arrangements. And if you can make it out to the latter of the two gigs at Ryles on the 18th of March, there is a great chance that you will hear The Hereness and Nowness of Things in its entirety. Also, those that can make it out to this show will be able to pre-order the CD at a discounted price.

So until next time, take care of yourselves and each other.

Esthema

Hello All,

Hope you are all doing well...

Esthema's CD, APART FROM THE REST was the Editor's Choice on Indie-Music. com for Top 25 CD Releases for 2008. With all the great independent music that is released on a daily basis, this is a huge accomplishment for us.
Check out what they had to say:

This disc features a sharp blend of Middle Eastern and Eastern European melodies with American jazz, played on oud, bouzouki, violin, bass, drums and more. Some cuts make me want to order a few beers and dance; others, sit still and nod my head, a martini in front of me. I love that there's a very in-the-moment feel with some songs, like a good jazz jam. I'll bet Coltrane and Parker would have loved this release.

Please see the link for the full write up and the Indie-Music. com review of APART FROM THE REST.

We want to thank everyone for all your support and love.

See you all soon.
