Veteran region rock clubbers likely will recall the name of Mammoth, a hugely popular group that rocked area stages in the 1970s and 1980s, after releasing a pair of minor local hits ("Sweet Jeannie" and "Suzie") for Kiderian Records.

The region-based Mammoth became a permanent footnote in rock history as the band that in the mid-'70s legally forced a Los Angeles group also named "Mammoth" to change its name -- now known as Van Halen.

Two of the founding Chicago Mammoth members are back making music together -- drummer Steve Crabtree and guitarist/bassist Garry Flanagin -- and have recorded and released a new single, "Give Me Your Love."

Making this single even cooler is that Kevin J. Friend, Mammoth's former lead singer and "golden boy," wrote the lyrics, with the music composed and arranged by Flanagin and keyboardist Tom Swiering (a latter-day Mammoth member).

Providing vocals is Mike Kalmas (ex-How Happy), with tasty saxophone supplied by Carl Larson. FYI: myspace.com/chicagomammoth.

I don't believe in a word your saying; you don't believe that I don't believe. All the games that you keep playing, games are not my cup of tea. Spin the wheel like a Wheel of Fortune, fortune is your destiny. If that's the game you need to play then give me an L and O-V-E.

I give my heart but you just don't feel it, I give you my soul but you just don't care. You've taken my love but you just don't need it, you've taken it all but you just don't share.

It seems our love is always falling, down, down, down away, all I want our love to be is, I - You – Me - We.

I give you my heart but you just don't feel it, I give you my soul but you just don't care. You've taken my love but you just don't need it, you taken it all but you just don't share.

Mairzy Doats and Dozy Doats and Liddle Lamzy Divey (Mare's eat oats and doe's eat oats  and little lambs eat ivy), You say you play your child's game and you can never find me.

I give my heart but you just don't feel it, I give you my soul but you just don't care. You taken my love but you just don't need it, you taken it all but you just don't share. I give you my heart but you just don't feel it, I give you my soul but you just don't care, you've taken my love but you just don't need it, you taken it all but you just don't share – no you just don't share. (repeat)…

* Longtime region drummer Steve Crabtree (Mammoth, Rip Van Winkle, Return of the Dinosaur, The Ride) has once again hooked up with original Mammoth guitarist Garry Flanagin.

The two jammed together from 1974 through 1978 in the original Mammoth lineup which released the hits "Suzy" and "Sweet Janine" on Kiderian Records.

Mammoth seemed so poised for greatness at that time, they issued a "cease and desist" order to a young hard-rock group in California that also was calling itself Mammoth, forcing that band to change its name to ... VAN HALEN. FYI: www.myspace.com/chicagomammoth.
