Hey Jamboreees.
This past year we did slow down considerably on events and shows, but maintained our 'Acoustic Aromas' at Ormond Wine Company and Ivy Lane Bistro. Yes, the economy and our own personal bands kept us busy, yet we were able to continue to solidifying our bonds in the community. Our plan for 2009 was to become a non-profit organization, to further our efforts and visions for the music/culture in our area, and help nurture our young musicians. Since we could not reach that goal this year, we remained in a holding pattern. The Daytona Blues Society, under the leadership of Jeff Fedora, not only has reputation of being a great local organization, but had been established for several years. With most of our goals intertwining, we were offered an opportunity to become a part of the DBS. Through and election process that took place a few weeks ago,
August Wenger was elected to president of The DBS, with the blessings of its member musicians, the blues community, and our local musicians and friends...we congratulate him!
Now HomeGrownRoots will remain the promotional / networking arm that it is into the future, and as we help develop the organization, and perhaps expand its positive influence in our area. So ...Music Fans, Musicians, and locals business , please stay tuned for more info.
Read the Letter below from August.

And Thank-you all
Happy New Year!!
Terry Nandlal

Letter From August Wenger

 August Wenger

Dear Music Lovers,

It was an honor to just have been nominated for a leadership position in the Daytona Blues Society; it is a tremendous honor to have been elected its President. I would like to thank everyone who voted and especially all those who stepped forward to run. I intend to work with all of you, as well as, any active society member, as we build the Daytona music scene into a well-organized and efficient non-profit entity. Though there are the seven officers I will propose a total of twenty-one positions that will make up the functioning body of both the Daytona Blues Society and a new adjunct of the non-profit, the Daytona Music Society. Together, these people, and a troop of volunteers will transform the organization into a truly positive force in our community. A plan for the greater Daytona area music scene has been in the works for over three years now, and its very exciting to know that it has an opportunity to move forward.

The plan will attempt to add 500 gold card members, 100 official business sponsors, 12 official venues, 10 affiliates, and up to 50 bands, and 50 artist members.
The society will also attempt to research, write, and solicit grants that will allow us to educate, give scholarships, and put on free events for our community. Essential to our efforts will be ongoing networking and promotion that I will take on as my main objectives, while deliberating the myriad of other tasks and matters at hand to our officers, appointed committee heads, and volunteers.
I am a very accessible person and encourage anyone interested to communicate their ideas and passions for blues, original music, and culture in our area. I hope a renewed spirit will sweep through us and we will elevate Daytona's music scene to a new level.
I hope you will attend our first few meetings of the new year for a more in depth illustration of the plan, its execution, the fruit that shall be bared thereof, and your possible contribution.

Sincerely,
August Wenger
President, Daytona Blues Society

Mission:
To engage fans, local/national bands, and original music venues in an effort to sustain an interactive original music culture in the Daytona/Volusia area.
To assist our local original musicians to closer sustain themselves using the skills and creativity of our profession.

Brief History:
The HGR was created in August of 2006. Since its inception the HGR has had over 130 successful shows and has showcased more than 200 bands/artists both local and national. HGR events are held in various venues in our area. The HGR works with local newspapers, magazines, and promotions, but is largely a grassroots, word-of-mouth organization dedicated to uniting the music scene in the Daytona/Volusia area. HGR has several styles of shows each unique to genre, theme, location, and atmosphere.

HomeGrownRoots Jamboree:
Periodically through out the month the HGR hosts the Jamboree, a show generally on a Friday or Saturday Night. Typically a cover would be charged for certain bands and events, but our goal is to host FREE SHOWS. Most Bars/Venues pay for entertainment as it is, why not LOCAL and ORIGINAL.
Some nights may be all local bands, while others may be several out-of-town bands. For each night the HGR organizers try to put together a musical experience that will draw out like-minded fans. Most often this is accomplished by matching up like-genred bands, but eclectic music nights happen and draw crowds for that reason as well.

HomeGrownRoots Showcase:
Showcase nights offer a glimpse at up-and-coming musicians and may include bands or solo acts from many different genres. Out-of-town bands that are passing through during the week are encouraged to play our showcase nights in an effort to attract local fans. Showcases are generally free shows that are held at various types of venues ranging from pubs, restaurants, and coffee bars to bookstores.

HomeGrownRoots Special Events and Festivals:
HGR participates in Special Events and Festivals, including city/county sponsored events. HGR seasonally hosts our own festivals, featuring local artists, vendors and HGR Local and Out-of-area Bands.

Thank-you all that attended last nights show.

We were able to take care of our headliner, costs, and bands.

Albeit we are using any surpluses for the 2009 FEST...we have a big schedule for next year..so far.

REMEMBER..its all about events.

AND bringing more attention to our local-regional musical clowns
Sure we promoted in press/myspace/emails.

But going from empty rooms to packed "attentive" ears is a result of these bands putting that word out...the buzzzzz.

DONT OVERPLAY IN OUR TOWN..that all I have to say.

BUT PLAY!!!!

Everyone has there own meaning to what 'underground' means in regards to our culture/art/music scene. Its even taboo to suggest something is 'underground' these days, it sounds cliche, and may invite some corporate sponsor to 'bannerize' your forehead!
As far as I can remember "The Underground" Music scene, was the music and bands that I loved to see. It was made up of friends, and we all supported each other. There were different styles of music, some trendy, some totally off the wall!
The music was never on the radio.  The majority could only be passed on, person to person, through 'zines' (Bands Magazines), cassettes (then CD's) and late night hang-outs that called out to me in my youth. Bands from a city half way across the country would find them selves a packed house cuz the local band not only brought the family of friends, but passed that touring bands tapes/cds around...it was grand.
As I grew older, and my musical tastes expanded, the meaning of the word evolved for me a little. With the internet here, and the surrounding whirlwind of media communication, its easier to dig up what you like.
I believe.
As a musician IF my soul income was from my music, I could safely say that Im well known enough to pay my bills, and have some thrills, thereby removing me from the obscurity of a few, to perhaps a few thousand. Does that now mean Im not 'underground' anymore? Or does it mean IM getting by with music that makes me the happiest, whilst being compensated for my work.
Most of our local original bands/musicians here, have day jobs, perhaps kids and mortgages. Either way, they arent self sufficient from their art...so I can safely say....WE HAVE AND UNDERGROUND MUSIC SCENE HERE!
Filled with aspiring musicians in projects that bring smiles to our music loving faces, with the hopes of one day, being able to use their talents to make a living.
Yes there are some that MAY break some mainstream...stream...since theirs millions of streams out there..but in the end,  whether they're eclectic, hardcore, punk, electronic, country...if it aint all over the place, force fed, then its 'underground'.

So seek out those bands..whether you like the music or not.
Everyone has they're own tastes in they're bones.
Of course if you would rather listen to the 'cookie cutter' bands on MTV and most Radio..the underground music/art scene might be too much work for you.
:)

Well Hello Again!
Last Friday you all had too much fun didnt you?!
The entire town was filled with parties and celebrations, and of course we had our own too!

This years Contraween featured three bands, The Watchmen, Thunderlip, and The Mike O'Brien Band. All three had great performances, and the revelers ate it up. Of Course, after weeks of building a set and costumes, it was time...to perform 'SPACEBALLS the Musical'. From the opening scene till the scene with the dancing alien...superb, marvelous performance chaps!

Bug Thanks to August, Whitney, Terry, Matt and Toby Miller for doing this show up right! You got to hand it to August, keeping it interesting each year for the Jamborees.

We also hosted the Caffe da Vinci Stage 6, and Main Stage at the Deland Music Festival..and that was blast. Lots of friends, musicians, and family...our Central Fl music lovers gala! What a weekend.

Ok enuff. Thanks to www.thee8six.com and Backstage Pass Magazine
Phil Weidner of SSA and all the musicans in our area, for co-operating and helping us bring musical joy to the masses!

Hello Jamborees! Last Friday we rocked the Bank for one of our HomeGrownRoots member bands CD Release Party! What a show it was!

The Transfers opened up with a nice set of original rockin tunes to warm up the crowd! Good job guys!

Secret Of Vessia really had one of the most memorable shows ever. Coupled with the amazing light show of Perego, a whole lot of friends, and lots of new faces!
Big thanks to all the fans who have stuck it out with these guys. You may know Billy Dean and Scott Queen from other bands in town, but Steve Ingram and main songwriter Ish Rios, are a major driving force behind the 'Secret. The methods of anticipation and emotional chaos are what makes them so unique. The CD is something to be proud of, yes its heavy, but fill with the intricacies of well 'thought' out music.

Big Thanks to Matt Miller on sound!
Whitney on the door!
Perego Perego Perego...is art :)
HGR members for all your help on this show!! Thank-you
Stephen Sparacino for yer pics sir!!

See ya Friday with one of our first FREE shows in awhile w/ The Halifax Contraband.

We may not have the glitz and the glam, but we sure do work hard to bring you diversity. There's plenty of music going down around town these days, so it was necessary for us to scale back and allow the music scene to continue.

However a BIG THANKS to HomeGrownRoots members, and frequents music lovers/musicians, for coming out and supporting the shows.

We operate on a lifeline..and a prayer for some of these shows. We usually make it through fine. Whats important is that YOU stay involved.

Whether its a local band or touring, get out and support

Thank-yu to Turning Point Youth Collective for settin up for Voter Registration
Our signed Musician members for attending, in support.

Daniel Yancey for doing the sound for the eve.

Rick Grano for filming
Hopefully we can get some pictures..none of our local photographers attended, oddly enough LOL
If anyone has pics, let me know.

AND
HUDost was phenomenal, the music, Moksha's voice, Dan Walters, Jemalwade, the drummers..all worked in unison, creating unforgettable musical landscapes
Perego's Light show was the bomb...wait till you see the video.

The First World Messenger Drummers mixed up the rhythmns
that binds..and was truly a wonder.
