Eye of Horus is currently accepting applications from dynamic individuals for a seasonal part-time (10-15 hours a week) client / customer service position. We need a good person to help out on evenings and weekends. This position could become more than seasonal, if our growth supports it. Please note, we are pretty picky about who we hire; we only advertise our openings on our various web presences and eMail list. Basically, if you are reading this, you are probably one of our clients / customers, you “get” what we do and what we’re about.
To apply, pick up an application in person at the store to fill out, and include a resume:

We're Donating to Sacred Paths CenterAt Eye of Horus, we look at all the products we offer, the way we do
things, the people we work with, and the concerts or events we support,
and we ask the question, “Does it have heart and meaning?” So when we
heard that the fledgling Sacred Paths Center (which opened this March)
was struggling, we decided to step up. Because the answer to that
question, when it comes to the SPC, is a big YES. Here is their
description off their website: “Sacred Paths Center is a unique blend of retail, healing center,
classroom space, community space, library, art gallery and more. We
strive to honor all spiritual paths but focus primarily on
Earth-reverent religions. Our primary goal is to offer a place to come
together as a community. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.”
They have enough space to provide room for events, rituals and
concerts with seating of over 50 people. In fact, Thraicie and I
attended a last-minute concert performance by SJ Tucker just a couple
months ago. It was awesome! We have also been talking with them about
hosting off-site events or workshops which need more space than the
store can provide.
We just got the Email this morning that they needed to raise $10,000
to pay past-due bills and keep their doors open, with $5,000 due by the
end of the this month, and the remaining due by the end of September.
This felt like a physical blow, so we decided to do what we could
immediately, and sent them what we had in our Paypal account. But we
wanted to do more.
10% Solution Sale
So we’re also having a very special kind of sale this weekend. The
fact is, we’ve never had a sale, because we try to provide the best
prices every day. Well, not only are we going to have select clearance
items on sale for 20-30% off, but 10% of the gross sales of ALL
merchandise sold on Saturday and Sunday will be donated to Sacred Paths
Center.
Reiki-Artist Beth Hansen-Buth will also be here on Saturday from 1pm
to 5pm offering Reiki Energy Healing for $1 per minute, with all the
proceeds going to the Sacred Paths Center. That’s right, 100% of the
price you pay for Reiki will go to the SPC.
So stop on in and stock up on candles or incense, or pick up that
statue or piece of art you’ve been thinking about, and know that 10% of
your purchase price will be going to benefit the broader pagan and
earth-spirituality community.
What does your heart tell you?
We are also asking all of you, even if you are not local, to take a
moment, and ask your deepest heart and spirit whether you can give a
little extra to help this seedling make it through to Harvest.
Better yet, become a member of the Sacred Paths Center. Even if you
can only do $5 a month, you enable their ongoing effort to provide the
space and the resources to support a spiritually eco-conscious
community:
If just 25% of our Email and Group list can become members at $10
per month, the SPC won’t ever have a crisis like this again, because
their costs will be covered.
If you don’t have the funds to give, please light a candle, open
your heart and send out strength and an image of that donation jar full
and overflowing . . . and of all the great events, circles, potlucks
and gatherings that can still happen at Sacred Paths Center.
But most importantly, don’t delay. Give today. We did.
Blessings to all,
Jane & Thraicie

Tarot Discovery Class Series with Chuck Boe, MA Understand the Arcana, Suits, Spreads and how to use your Intuition.
Three Class Series: $60.00
August 9th (Sunday), 11:30am – 1:00pm The Tarot Discovery Series Class 1: The major arcana of twenty two cards which signify the human journey through life. Students will personalize their understanding of the journey by working with the major arcana of their own decks, with the help of the instructor. By the end of the first class, the student should have an understanding of the significance of the major arcana, recognition of the cards and their meanings, and a beginning comfort level with the cards.
August 16th (Sunday), 11:30am to 1:00pm The Tarot Discovery Series Class 2: Learn the Minor Arcana through the four suits and the levels within the suits. The four suits address various aspects of our personality as well as the four elements. An understanding of these relationships helps us understand how the same cards have a different relationship to different people. Learn to interpret the cards using a Celtic Cross Spread.
August 23rd (Sunday), 11:30am – 1:00pm Tarot Discovery Class 3: Intuition and Visualization: The Journey and Practice of the Tarot is more than just the symbols on the cards and the meaning of the placements. What is intuition? How does it work? What is path-working? Develop your own sense of intuitiveness while using the tarot in plenty of in-class exercises and mini-readings. Some time will be spent in discussing the use of other popular Oracle decks, as well. $60 for all three Tarot Discovery classes in advance, $25 each individually Space is Limited - Call 612-872-1292 to Register Today

“Windchimes are musical instruments that are played by the wind,” says Woodstock Chimes founder Garry Kvistad, who taught collegiate music classes for many years, and is also a musician with the group NEXUS and a percussionist with the Steve Reich and Musicians ensemble. Kvistad incorporates tunings of scales from many different cultures throughout the world to create unique, inspiring sounds and styles. When we heard about his dedication to reproducing the tones of both ancient and modern devotional music from many cultures, we knew the chimes, bells and tones would be a good fit for a store dedicated to myth and centered living. We now offer over a dozen (18 to be exact) Woodstock Chimes in our Minneapolis Store. We have also added the chimes, along with zoom images and mp3 sound samples of each one, to our Home & Garden section of our online store, and we will be expanding the line. Wind powered We also noticed that Woodstock is celebrating 30 years of offering a wind-powered product. This gave us an opportunity to let everyone know that Eye of Horus Metaphysical in Minneapolis has been powered by the wind since August of 2008, when we opted for 100% Windsourced energy from our provider. All of our energy is provided by Minnesota Windfarms. It’s just one of the ways we consciously try to walk lightly on the Earth. (Click to read about all of our environmental programs.) So it was a natural fit to add Woodstock Chimes to our list of environmental products. Wind chimes When Woodstock Chimes first began producing windchimes in 1979, most windchimes were made by artists who created visually beautiful chimes with little consideration for the sound. Woodstock Chimes elevated the windchime into an item that combines beauty with musical relevance, using a technique that precision tunes the company’s windchimes to musical scales. For reasons of musical purity, Woodstock uses an ancient tuning system known as just intonation. Therefore, many of the notes used on Woodstock Chimes fall between the notes of the piano which is tuned to a modern system called equal temperament. This makes the chimes not only authentic when tuned to ancient scales, but also gives the sound a beautiful and unique quality. Each and every tube or rod used in Woodstock Chimes is individually tuned to exacting frequencies to assure the best possible result. This means that tubes tuned to the same note found on other Woodstock Chimes will be in tune with each other but might be slightly different in length. Other wind-chime makers often cut to exacting lengths but the sound will vary due to the slight inconsistencies of the tubes (wall thickness, diameter, temperament of metal). Turquoise Chime Tuned to the Golden Ratio While Woodstock products are mostly enjoyed in homes and gardens, many musicians use them as well. Since the intervals don’t always match the modern system of tuning of the piano exactly, trained ears can appreciate the difference and adapt to the ancient system. Woodstock Percussion Wind Chimes are tuned using a computerized tuning process in order to achieve incomparably beautiful sound. The frequencies at which the different tubes vibrate are integrally related, thus producing the purest musical intervals. One example of this is the Golden Ratio Turquoise Chime. This chime is tuned using the Golden Ratio, a ratio discovered by the ancient Greeks and found throughout nature. This is one of the building-blocks of the universe, and now the sound can add harmony to your deck, patio, or garden. Click Here to Listen to an mp3 of the Golden Ratio Turquoise Chime In addition to the beautiful sound, this chime combines modern square tubes with faux turquoise accents for an elegant southwestern style. Eye of Horus now carries the Woodstock Emperor Gong, Temple Bells and, of course, its Classical Chimes, such as the Pachelbel Canon Chime and the Chimes of Mozart, and many more. View and listen to all of the woodstock chimes we carry!

Loui Pieper, beloved wife, mother, teacher and founder of Evenstar Books, passed from this world Sunday night. Loui had struggled with her health for the past several years. In the end she passed quickly, at home, and in the company of her husband.
Loui will long be remembered by many as the best Tarot reader and teacher in the area, and was teaching advanced Tarot classes right up until the end of her life. Over the course of her career, she taught thousands of students in topics such as Tarot, Shamanism, Faerie Lore, and Ritual-work. Her entire life was dedicated to the service of the community of spiritual seekers and neo-pagans. She continues to serve as a role model to all of us.
Loui is survived by her husband and step-son, as well as several "adopted" daughters and goddess-children within the community. Details about the memorial services are forthcoming, and we will make sure to keep everyone informed.
Be at peace in the arms of the goddess, Loui. (original posted at the Sacred Paths Center Facebook Page)

We had a nice turnout for Full Moon Circle last night. But everyone was so mellow! Thraicie has some suggestions for those who are feeling shy:
First, don't be shy! We meet in a circle because everyone participates. Circle is not a spectator sport, like church. So raise your voice, raise some energy and have some fun. I know, I know, Lutheran culture is hard to shake, but shake it baby, shake it. Circle is designed to tap into the energies and possibilities of the universe, and it works much better with enthusiasm.
Second, we invite folks to bring rattles and small drums to the next circle, if you have them. This will help us raise some energy, and if you are shy about your voice, you can still make some noise.
Finally,Blessed Be!

I just wanted to give a heads-up on this one. This is the second time this workshop has been offered, and we had so many people come after the first one and say they didn't get a chance to register, I thought I'd give some advance warning. The Instructor, Joan Marie Mickelson is the real deal, has an enormous amount of experience and authentic training. At only $60 for three two hour sessions, the workshop is a fantastic bargain. She is also teaching some advanced workshops, including a monthly Drum Journey circle. But this class is a prerequisite for those. Our very own Thraicie Hawkner & Chuck Boe were recently interviewed
for MPR's "In the Loop" program. This interview will probably air at
6pm, Friday 16th (otherwise, it will be next week). http://minnesota.publicradio.org/radio/programs/in_the_loop/
Sanden Totten is actually interviewing a variety of diviners. He's
spoken with Thraicie & Chuck, as tarot readers, and will also be
speaking with astrologers, palmists, etc. The subject is our current
economic crisis, and how it affects individuals in their readings.
How do you handle questions about jobs, layoffs, mortgage concerns,
investments, etc.?
