Just returned from Fangoria's "Weekend of Horrors" in San Jose (my first horror con since moving down to California) and had a blast... Fantastic weekend put on by the wonderful folks @ Fangoria magazine, and it was quite surreal to get the chance to not only see and listen to tales from such folk as "Re-Animator" himself Jeffrey Combs, but to also MEET, TALK TO, GET AUTOGRAPHS FROM and GET PICS TAKEN WITH Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses, Devil's Rejects), Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, House of 1000 Corpses, Devil's Rejects), Ken Foree (the original Dawn of the Dead) and Pinhead himsef, Doug Bradley (Hellraiser).
I also really enjoyed getting the chance to talk to other indie filmmakers -- the team who brought you "Quick & the Undead" (now released by Anchor Bay) were fantastic sources of inspiration, talking about how they self-financed their cool-ass zombie western, shot it, finished it, and then signed a deal with Anchor Bay. Also appreciated the words of wisdom shared by the team behind "Death Row" (brought to you by the mighty Quiroz Brothers, they of "San Franpsycho" and "Hood of the Living Dead.") To have the opportunity to mingle and chat with these successful independent filmmakers, making a go of it on their own terms, was both refreshing and inspiring... and got my blood pumping for the next Dancing Monkey production!
Be sure to check out the pics posted on our MySpace page!

well, that might be a stretch, but the fact remains that i have the distinct honor of having mr. smith LINK to a review i wrote about his speaking engagement back in calgary a year ago... a speaking engagement that renewed my previously-faded enthusiasm for the man & his work. for a fanboy such as myself, i was quite tickled to see the link to my review, as well as the words he used to link over: "where a local reviewer found renewed faith in me" check out this blog entry here

Ooh - it's on, baby!
We posed the question on the Gingerdead Man's MySpace profile "Cage match: Gingerdead Man vs. Muffin man -- who wins? More importantly, who gets to eat the leftover carnage?" Truth be told, we weren't sure we'd get any response, but being fans of Charles Band, Full Moon Pictures and the mighty Gingerdead Man (voiced by none other than "Juicy" Gary Busey), we hoped maybe it would get Mr. Band to take 7.3 seconds to maybe READ the plot summary for "Muffin Man"...
Well, we got a whole lot more - ding ding ding, baby!
We just found this posted on our own MySpace profile, courtesy of Mr. Small Baked Goods:
"Are you kiddin me? do you even know the muffin man. i said Do you know the muffin man. I already killed him, It wasnt a cage match though, i took him and locked him in an oven till he burned to a hockey puck, then i stripped his sister, and covered fer in frosting then put cheries on her nips (a hobby of mine) then chopped off the muf's grannie's finger off. Then i celebrated with a fat cuban, and some milk. muffin man,,huh."
Alright, round 1 to Gingerdead... but don't count us out yet - let the festivities begin!

Howdy folks -- head on over to the "Pics" section of our MySpace page to check out a sampling of photos from both "Rotten Shaolin Zombies" and "Muffin Man" (including a special treat: how to cook a cow tongue to make it suitable for insertion into - and forced removal from - a human mouth!)
