F YEAH TOUR 08'

Wednesday, June 25th

We are touring in a 92 bluebird bus that is converted to veggie oil.

28 shows in 27 days. Every band, comedian, artist, and friend is crammed in this bus. 26 of us total. There is no leg room to sleep or air conditioning. This shouldn't work. We are suppose to breakdown somewhere, get in a group fist fight and that's how this bad idea is meant to end but someone it's all coming together. Hopefully we will make it to the last show.

The video below will give an idea of the mess that this tour is. It was put together by Michael from www.videothing.com. Check his site for daily video journals. And the photos were taken by the amazing Todd Seelie (www.suckapants.com). The rest of the tour dates are below. I hope some of you can make it to the shows.

Love,

Sean Carlson

On Everything’s Perfect, thrashing electric riffs and shouty vocals chase buzzing synths beats for a riotous dance-punk hybrid. With only two of ten songs clocking in past the two-minute mark, Team Robespierre churn out brash anthems potent enough to inject any party atmosphere with plenty of adrenaline, even if the album only lasts for a raucous 18 minutes. The group keeps it gritty on the chant-ridden "Solid Gold," coming off as a more polished version of the DeathSet, while the punchy noise of "Death Smells" echoes Parts and Labor’s crossbreeding of ethereal synths with rapid-fire rhythms." -SPIN

Team Robespierre are everything you’ve ever wanted in a live band: they’re a keyboard-driven dance party and a sweaty hardcore show rolled into one explosive, hard-hitting sound. They have the power to transform tired punk clichés like moshing, crowd surfing, and frenetic pogo-ing into knee-jerk reactions. For the past few years, with the help of ubiquitous promoter Todd P, the Brooklyn band has been building a cultish following in the out-of-the-way warehouses of New York without so much as a proper album to sell at its merch tables.

But all that is changing with the release of Everything’s Perfect. At only 18 minutes, it seems somewhat inaccurate to call it a full-length, but the 10 songs Team Robespierre pack in are so catchy and danceable, I can’t accuse them of being cheap. The recipe is simple — combine 2 parts ’80s-style synth + 2 parts hardcore screaming + 1 part righteous political rage and whip until frothy — and the band never diverge from it. Strangely, the formula never gets old. Songs attack such predictable subjects as oil, war, and New York cops, and while the lyrics rarely rise above sloganeering, it’s so fun to shout along with the call-and-response vocals that this never presents much of a problem.

The album is most successful when the synthesizer steals the show, spinning rough-edged punk into complex death disco on songs like "Big Deal," "Laika," and "88th Precinct." But with no clunkers to break the momentum, Everything’s Perfect maintains its adrenaline rush throughout. It remains to be seen whether or not Team Robespierre will be able to grow and innovate beyond the confines of their signature sound, but for now, the formula is working, and it’s about time the rest of the country hears what Brooklyn’s been dancing to. -TINY MIX TAPES

There is little doubt that this Brooklyn band makes for a fine, sweaty night out at your local DIY venue. Electric energy and noggin-conked execution pops out of every tune. But the personality needed to sustain all that ga-ga past the initial inspiration may be hard to pin down, even for the band itself. What can you do when a genre—here it’s spazzy post-post-Gang Of Fugazi demi-dance punk—starts to spill over its rim? One shouldn’t blame a band for the band-a-minute era it lives in.

Luckily, there is force in Team Robespierre’s sound. "Laika" leaps forward on the requisite, but still skuzzy, analog synths and gang chants. The Dr. Dre keys on "Gasoline," cowbell on "Ha Ha Ha," not to mention all the vigorous, mostly snare-only drumming throughout, means they’re already beyond the usual angular art-punk postulates. And these guys wear brevity (10 songs, 18 minutes) as well as a suave, skeezy Frenchman in Speedos.

But it would behoove acts like this to investigate where Gang Of Four got their name from and at least attempt lyrical intent. They do seem to have something against pitbulls in "88th Precinct." And in "Ha Ha Ha" singer Rex’s chop-chant brazenly declares, "every politician is a liar" while simultaneously admitting, "I just want to be a heartthrob," though each of those statements contains the surprise quotient of the announcement of a new C-list celebrity reality show on VH1. If Team Robespierre is playing your town the night such a show premieres, DVR that bitch. -CMJ

Brooklyn’s Team Robespierre have released their first proper album titled Everything’s Perfect. The record has 10 tracks, but is essentially an EP considering that only two tracks clock in at over 2 minutes and the whole disc comes in at a brief 18 minutes. It’s priced as such, and is worth the purchase even if you’re the type that only buys full-lengths.

The short run time helps the band keep the VU meters pegged from first note to last. It’s keyboard-centric synth punk; steeped heavily in 80’s new wave keyboards, but delivered with punk rock vim and vigor. The blending of these two divergent styles is so well done that you’ll wonder why it hasn’t been done before. The answer may be that it simply hasn’t been done this well before. And there lies the difference.

Many would label Team Robespierre a "dance band" and while I can see how music like this inspires movement, they deserve to be recognized more for their originality and inspiring inhibition.- RHAPSODY

Everything’s Perfect is equal parts Les Savy Fav and SST, smart and stupid, fun and more fun fun fun. Team Robespierre are from Brooklyn and have several singers, the primary one being a dude named Ty who has a goofy, standard-punk bark and who plays riff-y keyboards that bang and sometimes twinkle. "Mal de Mar" brings it on like a high school-halftime cheer ("BroooooookLIN!"); "88th Precinct," the longest song on the album at a whopping three minutes, is pure Les Savy Fav epic mayhem; and "Plutonium Pigs" is Black Flag with keyboards. Not all of it is great, but at least the bad songs never stretch past two minutes, and they never stop bringing that kid-brother obnoxiousness that is so integral to their charm. See them live, for sure. -EMUSIC

TEAM ROBESPIERRE are not known for their subtlety. Whether it’s their infamous shows that end up in sweaty dance parties that usually get busted by the cops or their latest effort Everything’s Perfect, this Brooklyn based group spend 18 minutes beating you over the head with their own brand of madness. "Laika" blasts forth from your speakers with a wave of high octane synthesizer and guitar, mixed with fast paced hi-hat while spazzing gang vocals burst through. Subtle, this ain’t. Blending a mix of early, dancier LIARS, snotty vocals, catchy as hell synth, and a bit of angular guitar and vocals borrowed from AN ALBATROSS, TEAM ROBESPIERRE have created their own, unusual brand of quirky mayhem. Although their lyrics may not make a whole lot of sense (shouts of slogans like "Pitbull Terrier!" and "I want gasoline! Unleaded!" are just prime examples), tracks like the handclap-infused "Solid Gold" and "Ha Ha Ha," which starts off sounding like a leftover 80s hardcore punk song before the cowbell kicks in and leads into a poppy melody, will keep you entertained enough to keep coming back. Sure, it may not be Perfect, but TEAM ROBESPIERRE have crafted something that certainly stands out from the pack of recent middling dance bands infused with a little bit of spazz rock. -PASTEPUNK

i’ll tell you what - if you’re sick of hearing about team robespierre, you best point your browser elsewhere, because i am so fucking in love with this band that it’s scary. in lieu of going to their showpaper benefit tonight (sorry guys, but it’s cold and bushwick is far away), i’m gonna rap at all y’all about the excellence of their debut album, everything’s perfect. you might remember that i was at its release party (along with matt & kim!), and i really haven’t stopped listening to it since. though i’ve been listening to them for over two months (since i picked up their fake gold sampler at the yeasayer show), i still haven’t really nailed down what, exactly, i love about them so much, but i know that i fucking do.

a team robespierre song is, fundamentally, a short debilitating burst of energy, released as a mix of anger and joy that provokes little of the former, and much of the latter. on everything’s perfect, they tackle subjects such as gasoline ("gasoline"), the 88th precinct ("88th precinct"), and nuclear fallout ("plutonium pigs"), and, fervently, brooklyn. fiercely proud of their home borough (if you weren’t aware, you will be at the end of any team robespierre show, since they announce their origins two to four times during any set), team robespierre is justifiably resentful of its inevitable gentrification, a threat not only to brooklyn’s diversity and independent spirit, but also its rent prices. currently, my favorite song on everything’s perfect (most of the tracks have been my favorite at one point or another) is "mal de mer," a crude but emphatic call to arms against imported dicks with a cleverly turned chorus: "what we’re gonna do is stage a coup / against these pricks they make me sick." the team’s diy aesthetic and casual anti-establishmentism is their guiding light, a mindset which their (universally-shared) aversion to work stems from. one of the album’s punkier cuts, "ha ha ha," is a ballsy anti-work anthem about wanting to be a hearththrob, and "solid gold" is an glitzy all-keyboard jam about "waiting for our break / so some money we can make." one olfactory byproduct of the team’s lifestyle is an irregular showering schedule, which was overpowering in december, is coyly joked about on "death smells" ("death smells / i do too" is the song’s closing lyric), but i’m also totally in love with its chorus, the nonsensical "death / smells / zombie / christmas," shouted at customary full volume for no reason other than the joy of it all.

so, in case you’re just joining us, i’m a stingy bastard (listen - who else actually tells you when it’s worth spending money on an album, instead of just downloading it?), and one thing i always looked for when buying a record is its length. unless i was desperate to have it, i wouldn’t bother buying it if it clocked in under, say, 42 minutes, cuz i would totally feel ripped off otherwise. as i’ve grown older, thankfully, i’ve learned that length really has little to do with an album’s quality, and that my brain can’t really listen to more than 50, 55 minutes of the same band straight (i’ve only listened to illinoise all the way through, like, twice). what really seals the deal is my overwhelming love for everything’s perfect, which scoots past at barely 18 minutes long. the single "88th precinct" is their longest tune, at just under three minutes, and only one other track is over two, yet i don’t feel shorted. everything’s perfect is a full album, and though i do frequently wish it was longer, that’s because i don’t want the party to stop when it does. one good thing about their preferred song length - it makes it hella easier to dance to. i don’t know if i could spazz out as hard as is necessary for longer than three minutes without dying (metaphorically). though team robespierre’s songs are short, they rarely feel underdeveloped, and it makes you wonder if it’s harder to make an awesome short song than an awesome normal length song. for "black rainbow," a superb track that isn’t quite 1:30, all the essential song elements are present, and there’s even space for a little improvisation. usually, i find myself thinking that songs are too long, that they drag and my mind wanders, and it’s really nice that that isn’t the case with everything’s perfect. short, sweet, and, i daresay, perfect, it’s an easily digestible album that rewards long past its 18 minutes.

lyrically, everything’s perfect is exciting, a little ferocious, and totally adorable (in that endearingly self-righteous way), especially because it’s hard to decipher a lot of the words without the album’s helpful lyric sheet. the ecstatic catharsis that accompanies any public enjoyment of team robespierre’s music is what really sells the band though. just look at this photo, one of the many that sums up how intense the team is live. everybody sweats, everybody dances, some people crowd surf, and everyone runs on a lot of fucking adrenaline. i’d like to borrow a line from the hold steady here: "people touching people when they don’t even know you," as it defines a live team robespierre experience, a jumbled mess of energy and euphoria. the team’s loose approach to instrumentation and avid appreciation for multiple vocalists make their songs perfect for joint band-audience participation, and you will likely find yourself dancing with a member of team robespierre if you’re anywhere near the front. their enthusiasm is infectious, yes, but their music is so provocative and addictive that it’s hard to tell if the crowd goes more nuts when a member of the team jumps into their midst, or whether their frantic dancing has reached a sustained climax. don’t expect to go home fresh and clean after one of their inimitably awesome live shows.

the moral of the story? everything’s perfect rocks. go see team robespierre live.- MR MAMMOTH

Adding to the new punk sound spearheaded by fellow Brooklynites Parts & Labor and Matt & Kim, Team Robespierre combine vintage synthesisers with frantic group vocals and melodic rock-outs that can often deviate into hyphy breakdowns. Everything’s Perfect, their debut full-length, strikes an ideal balance between goofiness and aggression. Opener "Laika" combines the call-and-response vocals of a hardcore anthem with a powerfully addictive chorus. Meanwhile, "Ha Ha Ha" offers up some guitar-and-synth pop punk reminiscent of Atom and His Package and "Mal De Mar" offers some creeping hip-hop. Charming and often irresistible, Team Robespierre know how to get the party started. -EXCLAIM!

A potent blast of short, choppy dance rock, Everything’s Perfect is indeed a perfect dose of energized noise. From the whirlwind guitars of "Ha Ha Ha" to the synths-and-drums maelstrom of "Laika," Team Robespierre’s breakneck sonics sound like what would happen if Milemarker experienced a head-on collision with The Minutemen. The sing-along stomp of "Black Rainbow" and "88th Precinct" could have been scooped up from Freedom of Choice’s killing floor, while "Death Smells" should have been left there. And sure, Team Robespierre has a formula: Jam synths, call-and-response shouts, and kinetic rhythms into the blender, shred, and repeat. But it works just fine, and is far from boring, especially with lines like "I want gasoline/Leave the lead in it." Smartasses. -XLR8R

Man, this week’s theme must be "music that makes me wanna go ape-shit". I’ve really been diggin’ the debut from Team Robespierre, "Everything’s Perfect", in fact I’ve been goin’ ape-shit over it. Electroclash with a metal overtone and drenched in a snotty, fuck-it-all attitude; reminiscent of one of my favorite bands, Le Tigre, only darker. There’s no deep message here, but that’s not the point; it’s rapid-fire observations of modern society wrapped in ass-shakin’ beats...the world’s fucked so you might as well dance your ass off before the end. Alright, I’m in. -IT COVERS THE HILLSIDES

hailing from Brooklyn, NY, team robespierre aims to keep the essence of punk alive. in doing so they have crafted with their latest release "everything’s perfect" to sound like an angsty punk trapped in a room full of 80’s punk-hardcore and 90’s rave cassette tapes. the album is ten tracks of crunchy synths, angry vocals, and gritty guitars. they delve into waters few band dare to dive, yet strangely enough the smell of punk lingers on once the album comes to an end. a joy ride indeed, and theres nothing boring on the tracklist at all. "everything’s perfect" should be available for purchase at all good independent record shops. -CRANKDATROBOTRON

(send final files to tykube@hotmail.com subject: remix) only send final files as to not SPAM up my email address. any questions can be directed towards this myspace page.

http://tr.radical9.com/

.... is the address to all the accapellas to the EVERYTHINGS PERFECT lp. they are listed as lead and back up, but do what you wish with them. remember our band has 2 main singers but 4 total singers so because all of the files are in real time you might have to wait a second (or 45) before you can hear any of the vocals (hence some of these files only have like 2 lines of back up vocals on em). we also realize that some of these files are from songs you havent even heard yet considering the album isnt out until jan 22nd (it might be hard to mix a song you havent even heard before).

it is best to use FIREFOX when trying to get these files with a macintosh. the file format is WAV files.

we will probably use the BEST of these mixes for the B side of a dance single to come out in the upcoming months. we will also put the BEST of them up on a myspace page we are starting tomorrow called TEAM ROBESPIERRE REMIXES.

do what ever you want with these files but honestly we are looking for mixes that fit more into the dance/electro genre than the noise genre if you catch our drift.

most importantly have fun and send us some good shit!!!!!!

love
