last night's performance July 14, 2007:
i was having dizzy spells from an inner ear infection that i've had since Rick and Jackie and I played No Fun Fest and almost didn't do the show. Good thing i did it ... it was perhaps our best.
my good friend and colleague Jackie Stewart from Smegma and the Rodney Forest, helped me to summon the courage to get out of sick bed and do the show. in fact... i did the show whilst in bed. they moved a futon in to the performance area and i festooned the slumber chamber with all sorts of blinking Christmas lights and things. i decided to play anything I could find. I was playing 78 hand crank portable player (when ever i could - i stuck my head into the cone, as paul was stuffing his head into various sized tubes made of paper and plastic.). I played a hand crank short-wave radio... came equipped with a flashing help light and a siren. computer, autoharp, Nancy Sinatra dancing pat and leather shoes that move by themselves, slide whistle, various cymbals, metal scraps and bells, paper tube with decorative paper sticking out of it, contact mic on autoharp and computer. i played while lying on my back at times, sitting on the bed or with my legs hanging off... cause i wasn't feeling well.
Mike kelley played spook house organ and bells, cymbals and vacuum and farty hose. great feedback, vocals and howling. He was this time, the glue that everything fell off of.
Paul played tubes, vocals, w/ electronic effects and chain saw. He buried his head deep in the tubes and was moving microphones in and out of the various constructions he was creating out of all the tubing he brought.
Joe Potts played chopped optigan and effects and his always fascinating subliminals. Let's hope he was putting out anti-Bush messages. Joseph Hammer played tape loops of Fredrik's pre-recorded music. Fred was in Mexico but provided music to be used as well as a fantastic Action-Figure cardboard cut out of himself.
it was hands down the best Extended Organ performance next to our first gig and reach a psychedelic ritualistic sensory level that rival anything Ya Ho Wha 13 ever did....
John Duncan did a mesmerizing performance mixing 4 cds. it was really good. Great to see him mature into such a fine composer.
after that all of us, save joe hammer, did a drum circle, where paul went about destroying the kitchen wares he had borrowed from the place and mike did some killer feedback over the pulsating rhythm that joe, john and i created. I have a blister to prove the effort.
i'm home now... was asleep, but squeaky (my cat) did the thing he's doing ever night which is meowing horribly and is now shut out of the bedroom. and i won't let him in tomorrow night for sure. it's become a cycle that will have to break or wear out.
Johanna Went was there, Nina Sobel, who was married to one of the Kipper Kids, Doug Henry, Albert Ortega, Carl Stone... and lots more. Ron Stivers from Poo-Bahs and Chris -Black Monk were selling records and cds and showing their great support.
I shall now require a bed in all future performances. it is the best. wish you all couldda been there.
