The Ed's Mixed Bag

Blog Page!

Podcast @ Podshow Plus

Podcast @ Libsyn Page

This is the first MySpace blog by yours truly and is therefore a good time to subscribe. Beginning right now you won't miss a single blog entry! So get a jump and begin at the beginning with me, Ed Ovett, host of the Podcast that's out of this world, the Ed's Mixed Bag podcast. We're up to episode #77 so feel free to check some of the archived shows. To date we've had just 3 interviews, 2 of which are each on a separate episode and one of which is split into 3 separate episodes, with 15min segments each. I've interviewed Sophia Ramos on episode #45 and also played a bunch of her songs intro'd by her stories for each song on episode #44. The second artist interviewed was Matthew Ebel and is split into 3 episodes (#68, #69, and #70). Finally I had the pleasure of interviewing on her first Skype interview, singer/songwriter Whitney Steele (episode #73).

Although interviews are not my main-stay, I do enjoy doing them but mostly the show is about the indie artist. I've had artists from garageband.com and one or two other networks. Mostly I use the Podsafe Music Network (PMN) and also feature my family musicians. Some of the special segments I've had over the past one and a half years have been the following:

1] The Mystery Sound Contest
2] Know Your Podcaster's Voice Contest
3] Ed's Software Tip
4] Podcaster's Tid-Bit Audio Clip
5] Name the Diva Twin-Spin Contest

If you have any questions about these feature segments or about anything else, don't hesitate to email me at
ed@edsmixedbag.com or use the MobaTalk Messaging System at either of the websites. Hook up your mic and say what you like! to borrow a phrase from Richard Vobes. You can also use your telephone and call (561) 210-7590 and record a voicemail. Speaking of phones, if you have free minutes, you can listen to the most recent episode of Ed's Mixed Bag by dialing (510) 495-6383.

As I am writing this there is a special un-episode in the can with me and Brent Bradley (
www.podshowradio.com) discussing rock bands and generally tossin' the bull around! It'll be on-line on Wednesday, April 4th, 2007 on the EMB feed and a few days later on Brent's feed. That'll be followed up with episode #78 on Saturday, April 7, 2007 containing a piece of audio I recorded live at Starbucks in Boynton Beach, Florida with Joe & Jesse Chisholm of the indie band The Chronicles from Toronto, Canada. The clip will be surrounded by two of the band's greatest tracks!

I've been "punching-in" every Friday night (except for one week while in Ontario, California for the 2nd annual PME back in Sept. 2006) and creating a podcast episode. I don't feel like others that since this is a creative process one should podcast whenever the spirit moves them or when they feel inspired. In my case, if I don't have a deadline, there would be none recorded. I believe if one is not feeling like podcasting, when the deadline approaches, you've got to find a way to get into the proper mood. After a while you expect the anxiety, like stage fright as the moment approaches. I find that that nervous energy can be channeled into the task at hand and wind up serving to help me be in more of a creative mood and gets me over the hurdle of the initial heebie-geebies!!

So, that's enough for now, the first blog at the Ed's Mixed Bag MySpace site! Thanks to all for coming here and reading this and please subscribe in order to follow along with the amazing adventures of an aging podcaster in a strange land, known as the podisphere!! Until next time, so long!

Stuff Added on 3rd Day!

Today my daughter Erika added herself as a "friend?" here! Then my son Mike contacted me via his sister's laptop from Orlando and requested I get the MySpace IM application. We chatted and I searched for a recent photo of him that he could use on his MySpace site.

A little later on I added as my default photo the Ed's Mixed Bag.com logo. I also discovered the chart showing Posts, Comments, Views, Kudos with the counts for Today, Week, and the Totals. Very nice. Another nice feature discovered is that through the MySpace drop down menu on the IM I can access my Blogging page, email inbox, music videos, and more!

Well, time for bed. Show #60 is shaping up nicely with an idea to play all my MyChingo messages to date back to back! There's 10 of them running a total of about 2:30. We'll see what tomorrow (Wednesday) brings! Good nite!

Podcast Playing!

Arrived home after work today and immediately went to www.feedplayer.com and inserted my RSS, got the html code for the player and embedded it here at the MySpace. So now when you arrive you'll see the 16 photo slideshow and hear the latest podcast. Of course, if you scroll down to the Feed Player you can click the pause button twice and it will stop where it is and continue from there when clicked again!

For you geeks out there, I know this is basic stuff but there are family members who are new at all of this, so thanks for your understanding.

I've been totally amazed at the immediate incoming "friends" response. Last time I looked it stood at 25. Today I also decided that I'll probably upload a new 16 photos each week for a few weeks, just to get them all seen. When that's accomplished the last set uploaded shall remain on the page until a new batch arrives. Recently the entire family went on a "on location professional photo shoot." I'll have to scan my copies of those photos for posting. We posed for them in Boca Raton, Florida at the South Inlet Park on the boardwalk ramp, amidst the foilage, leading over to the intracoastal jetti and then also shot some with the intracoastal as a background. If they come in earlier than 3 weeks, they'll have priority, so come back here to check once in a while!

That's it for today and remember, if its Saturday, its Ed's Mixed Bag!!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I've dumped into this form a "Podcast Enclosure" so you should be able to sample Show #59 I published Saturday, November 25, 2006. Ed's Mixed Bag is a weekly podcast with a new episode available every Saturday! It'll be there when you awake, since I post at midnight Fridays.

As I write this, the long Thanksgiving weekend here in the USA is winding down and its back to the daily grind at 5:30a.m. as I, and a host of others, return to the Palm Beach County School District's maintenance department where I maintain, test, and repair the intercom systems for approximately 30 of the 200 schools. The other 170 are divided up between 3 other teams. Last thing to do is to download an audio player and embed it into my profile here. I had one of these on my regular website and then deleted it infavor of one called a PuPu Player that is still at the site. However, with all the blue play buttons, I'm thinking of deleting it as well.

Well, that's about it for this first blog here at MySpace. No promises, about updates. Most likely I'll use this space for important developments which can sometimes be far and few inbetween. So, finally a plea! I'd like my podcast to be a little more interactive. I have great participation in the contests, but not enough via the site's comments or emails. There is even an audio messaging system called "Mobatalk" that seems to lie dormant for the most part. The enjoyment of the Podsafe music is all well and good and I'm especially thrilled to be able to support all the indie artists out there. However, the lifeblood of the show seems to be the interactivity between myself and the listeners. Otherwise, I'm podcasting to the walls!!! Okay, I'm stepping down off my soapbox now!

Thanks for taking time to read this and for listening to my podcast! If you've never sent an email either to me or an artist, or never sent an audio comment, after you're finished here, its time to get involved!!!
