What a night and where to start, this show started at 7pm and ended at 1:30am

Here's my review on the evening which was simply amazing! I'm a bit out of it recovering from the night of partying, up for work at 7am-Arrgghh!

We arrived at around 8pm, the only band we missed was "The 88" so this worked out perfect.

Hit the bar for a tequila shot & beer with my buddy, Steve Javors and got a great spot up front.

Out comes Black Francis (Frank Black) as the host of the evening ready to rock with his new band along with his wife-Grand Duchy.

Man did they rock and today I'll upload to YouTube footage I recorded during their set.

From there out came Michael Penn (Sean Penn's brother) doing an acoustic set, very Bob Dylan esque, not bad just not my cup of tea.

Following them out comes Black Francis introducing his friends band O.K. GO who performed some of their own tracks and ended with some Pixies covers, great stuff.

Out comes Mr. Black himself to perform some of his solo songs which of course kicked arse. Afer a good 4-5 songs he brings out Tenacious D

Jack Black is one funny cat and him & his partner put on a hell of a show.

Before finishing their set, Black Francis joins them to do a Pixies song too.

Next up is David J (Bauhaus, Love N Rockets) set doing all his new songs for his new solo project, very David Bowie esque with a dramatic feel, not bad.

The best part was Black Francis joining him on stage to perform "In Heaven" the song from Eraserhead-great song!

Now Black Francis has a surprise band in store for the crowd. Who does he announce but "She Wants Revenge" whom I'm a fan of.

They come out perform some tracks including a Psychedelic Furs cover and more.

Right when you think the night is over they keep bringing out more and more and more.

Black Francis jams more and out comes David J (Bauhaus & Love N Rockets) along with the original drummer from Bauhaus too Kevin Haskins          to all jam, great stuff. Of course we're treated to more Pixies covers together too, something you'll never get a chance to see again!

They even did some Cure covers too.

From there Black Francis has an even bigger surprise, we're proud to have performing tonight "THE PIXIES" YES-all the original members, excluding Kim Deal on Bass as she was out of the country. Who fills in for Kim instead, various artist for each song. First out comes Kim from the band THE MUFFS which was awesome and then Black Francis's wife from Grand Duchy fills in too playing everyone's favorite "PIXIES" songs.

For the PIXIES song "I BLEED" out comes the last person you would expect to see this with them by Weird Al Yankovic, yes Weird Al sang this track in a serious style, not his typical comedy he's known for.

For the grand finale on Bass out comes FLEA from The Red Hot Chili Peppers jammin with them for a few songs and man was that bad ass.

The crowd went nut seeing FLEA's energy on stage.

Tonight I'll upload my footage I filmed, we were right up front.

Cheers,

Stuart

I thought this was such a cool message I received that I had to post it. Being the music junkie that I am, a friend from high school found me on here and refreshed my memory on a mixtape I made her over 20 years ago, how cool is that! Here's the letter:

to send you the list of songs on the tape.

One side was called Horror and the other New Wave
Psychic TV
Skinny Puppy
Bauhaus
The Cure
The Birthday Party
Foetus
Adam Ant
Coil
Throbbing Gristle
Clock DVA
Ministry
Christian Death
Killing joke
etc...but the one that stands out the most was If You Were Here, by the Thompson Twins. God I loved that song.

You know I should really thank you because I didn't really know much about Industrial Music at the time. I became a Huge fan in the late 80's through early 90's. I've been to see...
Ministry with KMFDM
Front 242...I went to a party for the release of Tranny for You. After the party we went to a club and Richard 23 came with us.
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult...seen them 3 times
Nine Inch Nails
and I also love...Cabaret Voltaire, Laibach, and Nitzer Ebb among others.

So thanks again my blue haired friend.

Ren

I'm sitting at home its around 7:30pm and the phone rings, the caller ID says its from someone with the name "July" so I pick up. The guy says is this "HYPNOTIC 23" my old DJ name and I said yes. I haven't had a call like this in at least 6 months and it really touched me. He tells me how he's 33 now and how music is the source of life and what keeps us going. I just had a glass of wine so I was chill to where I stayed on the phone to listen to what he had to say. He tells me how back in the warehouse party days he was always the sober friend that took care of his friends that were trippin out and my music was always what stood out. He said I was able to create the sound that left you feeling like you were on drugs yet you didn't need drugs to enter that next stage,  I was blown away since that was always my message. He mentioned how he loved the sounds of myself, R.A..W. and Ron D. Core, even started singing some of my tracks. For some reason this stranger started to share his life with me in saying how people around him are committing suicide yet music is what we all need to bring us together. He kept saying when he closes his eyes and hears my beats he can remember the old warehouse party days in seeing everyone together as one enjoying the sound of the DJ and just walking around seeing so many different faces all getting along.  It was a very touching conversation and something I wanted to share with my friends on here too. I'll never forget this phone call...

Good Night,

Well, the LA WEEKLY Detour Festival was a good time, we got there around 3pm ready to drink and they had tents scattered around for those 21 and over could indulge in mixed drinks or just beer at around $7.00 a pop. We bumped into that pop singer PINK and also the director VINCENT GALLO who was hanging with the guitarist from HOLE so it was a mix crowd of kids, hipsters, and adults mixed with celebrities all downtown in front of City Hall with the streets blocked off. They had a bunch of food stands and we munched on some pizza & philly steak sandwiches before catching some music. From there the event started with the French DJ's off the record label "Ed Bangers" not really my cup of tea since its all a rip off on Daft Punk, we listened to Kavinsky drop a few tracks and later on Sebastian & Justice. Now for some rock n roll & punk which started with KINKY from Mexico, what a better way for them to open with the cover song "Mexican Radio" which was fun. Now over to The Raveonettes stage and they did a nice set of shoegazer style tunes. From there we enjoyed the reunion show by Celebrity Skin, the Hollywood glam band from back in the day with Don Bolles (The Germs) on drums and during their set on the other stage was Perry Farrell's new band Satellite Party where you can hear his voice screeching from a mile away. We still wanted to catch some of The TeddyBears playing at the same time and walked over to their set which in my opinion was the best of the night. These guys from Sweden were so much fun and performed wearing suits and full on huge Teddybear costume heads, lots of energy brought on by these guys. The night ended with BLOC PARTY doing a killer set and from there home and off to bed.

Cheers ya'll,

6/21/07 Playboy Mansion Party

The evening started at the UCLA parking lot where you get your bracelets after appearing on the Playboy guest list. From there a shuttle van took us up to the Hugh Hefner's mansion, it was unreal. Our access let us all around the grounds just not inside his actual home, we did have all access to the grotto. There were celebrities everywhere and amazing food. First we enjoyed some appetizers and drinks from there the open bar including their own wine with funny celebrity faces on the wine bottles. For food they had a sushi bar, pasta, shrimp kabobs and more. Great DJ music pumping through out the night and it was a packed house of beautiful woman at least 50 to 1 to guys. Now one of our friends who has been there took us over to Hef's animal sanitarium everything from rare exotic birds, spider monkeys and more. From there we checked out the famous pool and waterfalls which was simply gorgeous. Now off into Hef's game room where he has all these video games turned on for free to play as well as Playboy pinball machines. There were secret roooms that took you into guest bedrooms and funky couches as if nothing has been touched since the "70's. For entertainment they had Too Short perform along with other famous hip-hop musicians and rappers. Later in the night they brought out this dessert bar which was delicious. I met Chuck Lydell the famous Ultimate Fighter champion, hung out with the MTV Pimp My Ride guys, saw J-Lo's ex husband picking up on chicks and tons more faces. Hung over big time yet that was an amazing evening at $1500 a ticket.

What a great weekend in San Diego! We decided to party before entering the festival and arrived at around 7pm

Since the schedule was posted prior we already planned our schedule on which groups to see & when. Apparantely "My Chemical Romance" got in an accident and couldn't make it switching groups around to play on different stages.

The first group we saw were "The Shin" who were fun for their style of indie rock then from there we go over to the "Bloc Party" stage. Being the crazy maniacs we are my buddy Steve, Paul, and I made our way up to the first 10 rows just to find out after all that pushing that we're at the "Sean Paul" stage-Aaarrgghhh

Time to back track over to another stage when I hear "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" break into their first track which was unreal. Of course we do the same thing and are now in the front for YYY'S, a mosh pit going and all. All positive vibe style slamming with people helping each other out if someone else fell. Their set was solid and I had a blast.

From there my friends stayed to watch "TOOL's" performance and I walked over to see "Bloc Party" what can I say yet AWESOME, another great band and I left half way through just to join my boys for a portion of TOOL'S set which was some heavy shit, not the sound I'm into yet very cool visuals on the screen put together by Manard the guitarist.

To bad that crowd got out of control since I just heard 40 people were injured when the barracade got knocked down.

Now for the grand finale and we head over to the "SNOOP DOG" stage-yes, once again, we made our way near the front.

SNOOP DOG had some serious bass on stage and wicked sound system. Plus he was backed up by Warren G and live musicians too.

The highlight was hearing Snoop bust out some NWA tracks in memory of Easy E.

Its Sunday night now, recovering from the great weekend.

Have a great week ya'll

Stuart ;.)
