Before I was reading science fiction, I read Hemingway. Farewell to Arms was my first adult novel that said not everything ends well. It was one of those times where reading has meant a great deal to me, in terms of my development - an insight came from that book. And now i know that the this is one of those endings that arent in the best interest of all. Because I have experienced it, I can feel it. It doesnt feel like the science fiction I am presently used to, but feels like there is a hole in my heart where you used to be. But, like the Science you used to teach, what was left over in my heart from you has grown into something larger, more advanced. This organism is whats left of you in everybody.
Don't be dismayed by good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends. And for some, thats all you can hope for, for when you bid farewell to those you truly and deeply care about, all you can think about is what your feeling at that specific moment. When you should be looking foward, or even reveling in the past about what they did and how they changed out lives forever.
This is deep, something that cant be said with a mere few words. It is something that most people dont even acknowlage when they come face to face with, and even if they do they dont comprehend the concept of farewell until its too late. And then they too are gone from this world, this life, this fantasmalistic thing we call ourselves and those around us. Some day we all will look back on this day and see for ourselves that what we did did, indeed, change what others will do in the future. Even though right now, all we can do is wait and see what happens when we make a mistake. Sometimes thats all we have to do.
Beauty is the disinterested one, without which the current world refused to understand itself, a word which both imperceptibly and yet unmistakably has bid farewell to our new world, a world of interests, leaving it to its own avarice and sadness. And she was definely one of the most beautiful people we will have ever known, but we only now realize it because she is gone and, what was once disinterested is now something we will never forget. The image of you is burned into our hearts and souls, something that will not leave out bodies until our very last errevicable breath leaves us. But then we will rejoice, while the people that we loved are around us, because we will once again see you.
Rest in Peace Fran Galey.
