DVD Producer's Notes:

I'm proud to announce the release of the first DVD from Rather Irregular Productions. We had planned on releasing our first short film LATE MIDAFTERNOON OF THE LIVING UNDEAD on DVD for its 10th anniversary in 2004, but it never came together due to hectic schedules and a lack of resources. Luckily Mark S. Smith had the gaul to write, produce, and direct a new comedy short film SORORITY NINJA PIZZA GIRLS which began production in early 2005, and was finally edited and brought to completion by yours truly - Craig Isley at the end of 2006. The combination of our two short films and all the great bonus material we assembled ended up being perfect for a self-published DVD - at least, we hope so...

If you believe in supporting independent filmmaking....well...you can't get more independent than this! When we say self-published we mean it. Every one of our DVDs are made one-at-a-time, with loving care.

I'd like to thank Michael Smith for designing the SNPG logo, and Mark S. Smith for the LMOTLU cover design and graphics. Also, thank you to all our talented friends who helped make these short films happen. Most people involved worked as both actors, extras, and/or crew, and this DVD could not be possible without all of you.

Now, here's some of the inside stuff about our films and new DVD that only dedicated blog readers will know.

LATE MIDAFTERNOON OF THE LIVING UNDEAD Fun Facts:

- The short film was shot in color Hi8 video format and edited the old fashioned way (pause-play-record) on S-VHS tape in black and white.

- The short premiered at the 1994 Atlanta Fantasy Fair's film contest, and went WAY over the 10minute time limit. When the organizers cut the movie off, the crowd insisted they play the rest of the movie, which they did.

- The Blooper Reel remains in original color and contains language some may find offensive.

- The commentary audio was recorded 10 years after making the short film when we also digitized, re-edited, and enhanced both the feature and movie trailer. The soundtrack was also replaced with new (licensed) music. This was done on a Mac with iMovie with After Effects and eventually mastered for DVD in Final Cut Pro. The DVD menus were produced with Photoshop and DVD Studio Pro.

- The movie trailer contains all different footage and scenes not found in the short film, and was originally intended to run just before the feature.

- The Blooper Reel contains never-before-seen footage of a completely different actress who originally played the BLONDIE character and dropped out of the project after filming several scenes.

- You'll find the DVD's only Easter Egg ( the DVD promo commercial) on the LMOTLU menu.

- The MarkToonery DVD Extras showcases two funny works of cartoon art by Mark S. Smith, and really shows how far his animation skills have advanced over the years. I believe "Cooksey the Cannibal" was produced about ten years prior to the "Bigfoot Country - Zombie Skunk Ghouls" preview.

SORORITY NINJA PIZZA GIRLS Fun Facts:

- Ever wonder what the actors were saying on set for the lines that are not-so-seamlessly edited out of the film and replaced with overdubs? Check out the Deleted Scenes - Chapter 2 "Bubbles and Caro" which contains the original unedited and extra-zany actor dialogue.

- Your humble editor Craig is the voice behind the many audio censor overdubs for both the male and female characters, with help of some pitch shift.

- The short film was shot on miniDV with a Canon XL-1 camcorder and edited on a Mac with Final Cut Pro. The DVD menus were produced with Photoshop and DVD Studio Pro.

- A limited edition DVD of just SNPG was given to the cast/crew in appreciation of their efforts, but the short film's commentary track can only be found on this double-feature DVD release.

- It's pretty obvious, but in case you didn't notice - the characters THUMPY and DR NOSEJOB were both played by the same person: Michael Smith.

- The Outtakes and Deleted Scenes contain language some may find offensive. The film itself is quite tame, due to the over-censored concept, but I'd call it an unofficial PG-13.

- The end credits contain a couple of inside jokes and a funny disclaimer that no one has seemed to notice yet.

- Most all of the footage that was edited out of the short film can be found in the DVD's bonus material. No, it's not what you're hoping for. May I remind you this movie is a spoof...

Finally, this is the culmination of a lot of hard work, dating back to 1993 and taking the majority of my time for the past three-and-a-half months. If you decide to buy our DVD, we thank you and hope you at least get a chuckle out of it.

It's the eve of our DVD release, and to celebrate I just posted two new videos from the bonus material for both short films featured on a Rather Irregular Double-Feature DVD.

The SNPG Outtakes clip contains footage cut out of SORORITY NINJA PIZZA GIRLS - but probably not the type of scenes you're hoping for...it's just a spoof people. ;)

And, the LATE MIDAFTERNOON OF THE LIVING UNDEAD bloopers shows funny outtakes from the film in its original color video and features Carrel and his amazing brick juggling skills.

As usual, there's links to high-quality QuickTime versions of both videos at RatherIrregular.com.
Enjoy!

Finally, see what was cut from SNPG! Outtakes

OK, not really, but if I was to appear on my favorite talk show, here's how it would (hopefully) go:

FADE IN

Music swells as the band plays out and Conan returns from commercial break.

CONAN: Welcome back. My first guest has a new independently produced and self-published comedy DVD coming out this Tuesday. Please welcome Craig Isley!

The band plays "Funky Town" as the crowd applauds and Craig enters, shakes Conan's hand and takes his seat.

CONAN: How's it going? Welcome to the show.

CRAIG: Wow, thanks Conan. I'm doing great, and I have to tell you, I'm a HUGE fan.

CONAN: Oh go on.

CRAIG: No, really! I never miss a show.

CONAN: That's very kind of you.

CRAIG: I'm serious Conan...I love you.

Conan stares blankly at Craig.

Craig stares back blankly at Conan.

The shot cuts back and forth between close-ups of Conan and Craig as they stare blankly at each other for what seems like several minutes until Conan finally breaks the tension with a shake.

CONAN: Wsheew, that was weird.

CRAIG: Growwwwlllll

CONAN: Grrrrrrrrrr

Conan jumps up from his chair and strikes a feline pose, then nervously knocks over his desk microphone.

CONAN: OK, enough foolishness. Let's get down to business. You're relatively unknown, but I hear you've helped create some very funny short films?

CRAIG: That's right Conan. My good friend and creative partner Mark S. Smith and I have been making comedy videos for years and our production company is called Rather Irregular Productions.

CONAN: Rather Irregular. That's an strange name.

CRAIG: Well, we were going to go with Quite Unusual, but the web address was taken.

CONAN: I see. So tell me about your videos.

CRAIG: Our latest Rather Irregular production is called "Sorority Ninja Pizza Girls" and...

CONAN: Wait...Sorority Ninja Pizza Girls.

CRAIG: That's right.

CONAN: Sounds...um...interesting.

CRAIG: Basically it's a spoof of those over-edited movies that you watch late at night on basic cable that were once a bit more stimulating, to say the least.

CONAN: Speak for yourself buddy, I'd never...watch...something...naughty...ehem.

Conan once again knocks over his desk microphone

CRAIG: Well, we thought it would have a broad appeal, so to speak. Unfortunately for La Bamba there's only hot girls in our movie.

CUT TO:

Band member La Bamba looking confused.

CONAN: Poor La Bamba.

La Bamba looks even more confused.

CONAN: Max would like that though.

CUT TO:

Max gives a creepy grin and shows a thumbs up to the camera.

CRAIG: I brought a clip if you're interested.

CONAN: Of course, let's take a look.

CUT TO:

Black and white video clip of a monkey washing a cat in a sink.

CONAN: Oh dear, it seems as if we've had a mix up.

CRAIG: Yeah, that's not our clip. No problem. Let me tell you about our other short film "Late Midafternoon of the Living Undead"

CONAN: Sounds like a zombie movie.

CRAIG: Yeah, a zombie parody to be exact. To give you a better idea of what it's about, the full title is "Late Midafternoon of the Living Undead Insurance Salesmen, Politicians, and Telephone Solicitors".

CONAN: He He He...great concept. I understand you work with a very small budget.

CRAIG: No budget actually. We do the best we can with what's available, and primarily use friends and ourselves as cast and crew.

CONAN: So you're an actor too?

CRAIG: Barely. Both Mark and I appear on screen only if someone else doesn't show up that day. Very professional, I know.

CONAN: Well, from what I've seen you do a great job, and you're one of the first to market and release their own self-published DVD on the internet?

CRAIG: That's right, we've been releasing several videos from both our short films online and have a Rather Irregular Double-Feature DVD available this Tuesday exclusively online.

CONAN: Sounds great. You're hilarious, and I wish you all the success in the world.

CRAIG: Thank you Conan, that means a lot coming from you.

Conan holds up a DVD case.

CONAN: Be sure to order "a Rather Irregular Double-Feature DVD" featuring both "Sorority Ninja Pizza Girls" and "Late Midafternoon of the Living Undead" online at RatherIrregular.com this Tuesday, January 16th! Craig Isley everybody!

The crowd cheers and applauds as the band plays and they begin to cut to commercial.

Conan leans over and whispers to Craig

CONAN: So how did you get on my show anyway?

CRAIG: That's where our budget went...to your producer.

Fuck Trump!

That's right, R.I.P. is taking sides in the biggest celebrity war since the devastating Bateman-Baio conflict of '86.

The ongoing drama of Donald Trump vs. Rosie O'Donnell is dominating the headlines (thank goodness the war in Iraq is over) so Rather Irregular Productions must act on our convictions and stand up to asshat millionaires who viciously attack other millionaires with that most dreadful of weapons - verbal abuse!

We know that taking sides in this controversy that is brutally dividing our great nation will in no way influence publicity or sales of our upcoming DVD: a Rather Irregular Double-Feature DVD available on Tuesday, January 16th, 2007! ;)
hype on...hype off

Trump is also full of lies! Rosie is not a loser - she's on TV! OK, she does have a fat ass, but....er....she's on TV! And what's with the moral compass debate? They're both rich enough to afford moral GPS! -insert rimshot-

We invite you to join us in supporting Rosie and all overweight, homosexual talk-show hosts against the tightass, hate-spewing, toupee-wearing, egomaniac, publicity hounds like Trump!

Now is the time to sacrifice and take action:
- Move out of your Trump-owned rental property
- Boycott "The Apprentice"
- Watch "The View" (we said you'd have to sacrifice)
- Spread the word that Trump is impotent
- Buy our DVD! (not sure how that helps...um...for the children?)
- Forward this message to all your friends! Get the code here!
