DVD Producer's Notes:
I'm proud to announce the release of the first DVD from Rather Irregular Productions. We had planned on releasing our first short film LATE MIDAFTERNOON OF THE LIVING UNDEAD on DVD for its 10th anniversary in 2004, but it never came together due to hectic schedules and a lack of resources. Luckily Mark S. Smith had the gaul to write, produce, and direct a new comedy short film SORORITY NINJA PIZZA GIRLS which began production in early 2005, and was finally edited and brought to completion by yours truly - Craig Isley at the end of 2006. The combination of our two short films and all the great bonus material we assembled ended up being perfect for a self-published DVD - at least, we hope so...
If you believe in supporting independent filmmaking....well...you can't get more independent than this! When we say self-published we mean it. Every one of our DVDs are made one-at-a-time, with loving care.
I'd like to thank Michael Smith for designing the SNPG logo, and Mark S. Smith for the LMOTLU cover design and graphics. Also, thank you to all our talented friends who helped make these short films happen. Most people involved worked as both actors, extras, and/or crew, and this DVD could not be possible without all of you.
Now, here's some of the inside stuff about our films and new DVD that only dedicated blog readers will know.
LATE MIDAFTERNOON OF THE LIVING UNDEAD Fun Facts:
- The short film was shot in color Hi8 video format and edited the old fashioned way (pause-play-record) on S-VHS tape in black and white.
- The short premiered at the 1994 Atlanta Fantasy Fair's film contest, and went WAY over the 10minute time limit. When the organizers cut the movie off, the crowd insisted they play the rest of the movie, which they did.
- The Blooper Reel remains in original color and contains language some may find offensive.
- The commentary audio was recorded 10 years after making the short film when we also digitized, re-edited, and enhanced both the feature and movie trailer. The soundtrack was also replaced with new (licensed) music. This was done on a Mac with iMovie with After Effects and eventually mastered for DVD in Final Cut Pro. The DVD menus were produced with Photoshop and DVD Studio Pro.
- The movie trailer contains all different footage and scenes not found in the short film, and was originally intended to run just before the feature.
- The Blooper Reel contains never-before-seen footage of a completely different actress who originally played the BLONDIE character and dropped out of the project after filming several scenes.
- You'll find the DVD's only Easter Egg ( the DVD promo commercial) on the LMOTLU menu.
- The MarkToonery DVD Extras showcases two funny works of cartoon art by Mark S. Smith, and really shows how far his animation skills have advanced over the years. I believe "Cooksey the Cannibal" was produced about ten years prior to the "Bigfoot Country - Zombie Skunk Ghouls" preview.
SORORITY NINJA PIZZA GIRLS Fun Facts:
- Ever wonder what the actors were saying on set for the lines that are not-so-seamlessly edited out of the film and replaced with overdubs? Check out the Deleted Scenes - Chapter 2 "Bubbles and Caro" which contains the original unedited and extra-zany actor dialogue.
- Your humble editor Craig is the voice behind the many audio censor overdubs for both the male and female characters, with help of some pitch shift.
- The short film was shot on miniDV with a Canon XL-1 camcorder and edited on a Mac with Final Cut Pro. The DVD menus were produced with Photoshop and DVD Studio Pro.
- A limited edition DVD of just SNPG was given to the cast/crew in appreciation of their efforts, but the short film's commentary track can only be found on this double-feature DVD release.
- It's pretty obvious, but in case you didn't notice - the characters THUMPY and DR NOSEJOB were both played by the same person: Michael Smith.
- The Outtakes and Deleted Scenes contain language some may find offensive. The film itself is quite tame, due to the over-censored concept, but I'd call it an unofficial PG-13.
- The end credits contain a couple of inside jokes and a funny disclaimer that no one has seemed to notice yet.
- Most all of the footage that was edited out of the short film can be found in the DVD's bonus material. No, it's not what you're hoping for. May I remind you this movie is a spoof...
Finally, this is the culmination of a lot of hard work, dating back to 1993 and taking the majority of my time for the past three-and-a-half months. If you decide to buy our DVD, we thank you and hope you at least get a chuckle out of it.
