Current mood:  depressed
It is with great sadness we announce today that Xmas Lights are having to call it a day. Much as it would be nice to say we have had massive fallings out and punch-ups for the sake of the drama, the truth is far more dull. For many members of our band the financial and time commitments became too much and, for want of a better term, life got in the way. We are very proud of what we have achieved over the last few years, touring the country, playing with great bands and great friends and releasing an album that we honestly could not be more proud of. With all that in mind I guess we could not be more gutted than we are right now. We intend to see all this out in style however, and whilst we are unable to honour our touring commitments (for which we are hugely sorry) we will play one final gig in Oxford that we are organizing at the moment. Look out soon for a new band from Umair and a new project from James and Dave in the new year, and in closing, thanks so much to everyone that made being in this band such an amazing part of our lives for so long. We will miss it.

The BBC album 'A Quantum Of Covers' is now available on iTunes.

It's a compilation of some of Oxford's best acts performing covers of various James Bond songs, and includes the likes of Witches, 50ft Panda, Maria Ilett, as well as many more.

The album kicks off with our own Xmas Lights version of the Bond theme itself!

All profits go to Children In Need.

Go buy it now!

We're very sorry to announce that we have had to pull out of the show supporting Rolo Tomassi at the Regal on Wednesday 22nd October.

We were all very much looking forward to this show, and it has made us immensely gutted that we have had to pull out of it.

Apologies to anyone this may have inconvenienced!

If you're not too mad at us, and still wish to come watch us in Oxford soon, we shall be opening for Youthmovies at their upcoming Oxford Carling Academy show, on Thursday 13th November. We will be on early mind you, so make sure you get down to it in good time!

Thanks, and sorry again to all!

hello folks,

There have, as you may be able to tell, been some changes in the land of Xmas Lights. We were all set to go out on tour through September/October time and record a new ep, our first for a label that will widely release it. At this point it became increasingly clear however through this process that we were not all pulling in the same direction musically and, as you may have read in the blog prior to this, this has resulted in us parting ways with our vocalist, Marco. We wish him all the best in his future endevours and am sure he will do fantastically well and it has been a pleasure for all of us to be in a band with him.

So, we would now like to introduce NickB to the fold. Oxford music veterans may well remember him from Centre Negative and you can also check him out in his additional project, www.myspace.com/mountedinsanitycannon. We will now move forward and record the new ep and hopefully get closer to the sound we have in our heads. So, expect more nastiness, more beauty and mostly a continuation of the ideas we have been working towards up till this point.

The immediate plans in the Xmas Lights camp are to go ahead and record the new ep which we hope to have finished by November. We will be playing some headlining Oxford dates around then and a few additional regional shows, look out for a full tour following that in January time!

That is all from now from the land of Xmas Lights, just remember, always wipe down the lid, you never know who was sat there before you.
