Greetings and Bright Blessings,

December is the last in the Pagan Month History Series and the name “December” means 10th month. It was indeed the 10th month in the original Roman Calendar. At that time March was the first month and January and February did not exist. Numa, the 2nd king of ....Rome.... added them to regulate the calendar in 153B.C.. December then became the 12th month even though no one changed the name.  It began with 30 days and Numa in his reform dropped one and the Julius Caesar added 2 back in his regime giving it 31.  December  25th is thought to be the birth  of Jesus, common misconception and since the Christian Bible talks of Shepherds tending their sheep, this is highly unlikely1 Judean Winters are horrible! There is some speculation as July could be the birth month or September which is 6months after Passover. So why the celebrations on the 25th? Well the ancient Romans celebrated Saturnalia  long before there was Jesus Christ and this was to  honor Saturn the God of Agriculture. This whole season was called Dies Natalis Invicti Solis, the Birthday of the Unconquered Sun. The festival season was marked by much merrymaking. It is in ancient ....Rome.... that the tradition of the Mummers was born. The Mummers were groups of costumed singers and dancers who traveled from house to house entertaining their neighbors. From this, the Christmas tradition of caroling was born. In northern ..Europe.., many other traditions that we now consider part of Christian worship

were begun long before the participants had ever heard of Christ. The pagans of northern ..Europe.. celebrated the their own winter solstice, known as Yule. Yule was symbolic of the pagan Sun God, Mithras, being born, and was observed on the shortest day of the year. As the Sun God grew and matured, the days became longer and warmer. It was customary to light a candle to encourage Mithras, and the sun, to reappear next year. Huge Yule logs were burned in honor of the sun. The word Yule itself means “wheel,” the wheel being a pagan symbol for the sun. Mistletoe was considered a sacred plant, and the custom of kissing under the mistletoe began as a fertility ritual. Hollyberries were thought to be a food of the gods. The tree is the one symbol that unites almost all the northern European winter solstices. Live evergreen trees were often brought into homes during the harsh winters as a reminder to inhabitants that soon their crops would grow again. Evergreen boughs were sometimes carried as totems of good luck and were often present at weddings, representing fertility. The Druids used the tree as a religious symbol, holding their sacred ceremonies while surrounding and worshipping huge trees. In 350, Pope Julius I declared that Christ’s birth would be celebrated on December 25. There is little doubt that he was trying to make it as painless as possible for pagan Romans (who remained a majority at that time) to convert to Christianity. The new religion went down a bit easier, knowing that their feasts would not be taken away from them.

Greetings & Bright Blessings
Those of you who are fortunate to have family close to you-have an attitude of gratitude! My mom has been in spirit since 2004 and my daughter is usually far away.  I am so envious of the big families at holiday time, the noise and chaos, and the great times.
Being totally without anyone has given me cause to think and if I had close family members ...
     1. I would love them always. period!
     2. I would call-not text. Love to hear a
         human voice!
     3. Family first-then everyone else.
     4. I would never take them for granted-
         never know what tomorrow brings!
     5. Have an attitude of gratitude- family is
a blessing you don't realize till you have
        no one!

So if you are reading this -show your love to your family today and always, always feel blessed to know that you do have someone!

Swine Flu Alert

These words seem to be on every one’s mind these last few days.  Here are the facts

Swine Flu is a novel strain of the H1-N1 Influenza virus.

It is named for it's unusual genetic make up which is a combination of traits from earlier swine and avian flu virus strains and not spread through pigs or pork.

Symptoms are similar to those of a seasonal flu.

Infection appears to be transmitted between people by respiration.

As our US Center for Disease Control and many other public health organizations monitor the outbreak it is crucial that each of us take precautions against the spread of this disease.

Here’s what you can do:

Get plenty of Sleep

Reduce stress

Drink lots of good fluids

Eating fresh fruits & veggies

Wash Hands-use nail brush OFTEN

Stay out of heavily crowded areas

Staying physically active boosts your Immunity.

Skin Brushing with a skin brush before Showering
