2 shots at once: I Fell behind in blogdom, because....

!Exclamachine Type Foundry site relaunched yesterday.

Once central place to keep track of releases. It has a newsletter feature, as well as lots of links and pics. There's lots of free dowloads, but I'm still developing the store. There will be more cool stuff soon.

!Sketchy Times on the cover of Memory Maker magazine

The featured scrapbook page by Vicky Boutin on this month's issue of the magazine uses my typeface, in stickers. OMG!

The whole scrapbooking scene is interesting, but foreign to me, but this is exactly what design a collaborative product like a typeface it is all about: setting it free and see what others do with it!

Googling something else type-realted, I noticed something familiar in in the page results. Something like

"...blah, blah, setting, font=!MISQOT, blah..."

So, I had to click and see... By request of someone, yourpimpspace.com has added !MISQOT to the font choices for their extended network image replacement generator. Neat. I try to use it for large letters only, as it is frustratingly near-legible at small sizes. Fortunately, all three weights are available, with a trade off of detail for clarity in the heavier designs.

Anyhow, it makes my day to see people not only enjoying the font, but using it in ways that lets others discover it, as well! For those of you who like toying with your myspace page, heres a link to the generator, and an example:

I heard the other day that one of my friends dug what Che Guevera was all about. He owns that shirt many of you know as "the guy with the beret". I was surprised. When we were younger a lot of my friends grasped for anything that wasn't the mindless mainstream sensibilites. This lead to a lot of adoption of mindless alternative sensibilites. Adolescents in that mind become reactionary but with a far-left veneer, never stopping to understand the roots of the problems they despise. Now, twice that age, I find it strange that neolib rhetoric is still "cool", or makes them feel smart, different and special. With the access we all have to vast amounts of mainstream, alternative and counteralternative media, people like to stick themselves in the same cliques as ever? And the same anti-cliques?

I found this article an interesting read, I hope it entertains some of the "smart people" who think I am uncool because I dont buy the same revolution at the mall that they do.

Spam is not news. Spam on MySpace is not news. Spam on MySpace, that leads to a use page set to private? Still not news, but, damn, I got 4 today? Are idiots jumping on the 'let's spam MySpacers before we even learn how to use it' bandwagon? So sort of sad conspiracy of dimwittedness?

In other news, work is proceeding well on my first commercial font release, the soon to be previewed !Lestatic, in 4 styles and 3 weights. Last minute fiddlings with kerning and businessy mumbo-jumbo.
