PRESS RELEASE MonkeyMarc’s (Combat Wombat) Debut Solo Album Release The long awaited debut solo album “As the market crashed” by underground Australian producer MonkeyMarc will be released on December 1st through Omelette Records. “As the Market Crashed” is the result of years spent listening, absorbing and producing forward- thinking music. Recorded entirely on solar power in his converted shipping container studio in Melbourne, mixed in Paris at Sumroom Studios and mastered in London at Transition, this album takes influence from a worldly palette exposing the listener to a diverse and eclectic musical journey unlike any Australian artist yet. With influences reaching into the crates of hip hop, dub and dubstep this release is as much an ode to the past as it is an optimistic exploration into the future. With sounds reminiscent of early Dj Shadow, Dj Spooky, J Dilla and Flying Lotus, it is also equally influenced from further afield with more dub aesthetic acts like African Head Charge, Tackhead, Burial and Kode 9. Underpinning the album is a strong message for social and environmental change, drawing upon samples that cover the global financial crises, the inequality of political systems and the world’s addiction to fossil fuels. These vocal insights add a dynamic layer to the massive futuristic basslines which go head to head with brooding instrumental beats and crusty old samples in a truly organic and original style. The first half of the album draws heavily from a hip hop aesthetic. There are elements of blues, jazz and world music scattered across instrumental beats that take the listener on journeys to far and distant lands. The second half of the album ventures into deeper dub orientated territories relying on massive bass lines and shimmering stepped out rhythms. Samples of records from yesteryear come drifting in and out creating diverse and thought provoking music. This album is a truly unique contribution to the Australian electronic music scene. The first single off the album “What can I do?” is a clever mix of old blues, grimy beats and funked up keys sure to get even the most relucent listener busting a move. What can I do? will be available for electronic download from October 26th in original and a remixed version by DJ Delay (Berlin). MonkeyMarc’s full album “As the Market Crashed” is out now through Omelette Records and available online for download through www.monkeymarc.com from December 1st 2009. Well what's been going on on the monkeymarc front I hear you ask. Lots in fact. He's been on Palm Island doing workshops with indigenous kids and keeping busy in his solar powered studio writing his new solo album. He has also been busy on a more global perspective. After the success of the Gotan Project, Philippe Cohen aka DJ $olal took a trip to Nashville Tennasee and recorded an album with some of Nashville's finest country musicians. The result was the critically acclaimed "Moonshine Sessions". Phillippe decided to remix the whole project and after aquiring artists from across the globe he finally landed in Australia. After hearing Combat Wombat's "Unsound System", he offered a remixing job to be done by the one and only monkeymarc. The compilation album should be out within the next few months so keep your ears out for some strange country madness.
Over and out

Well folks, if you are out there thinking when the hell is that moneymarc going to get his shit together and record an album, well heres news for you.. After spending countless hours building my solar powered shipping container studio I finally have managed to put some time aside to write some good old monkey tunes... So far I have 17.. But the aim of my album is to have 13 as thats my lucky number... The music melding into strange mixes of dub/hip hop and dubstep on a world tour of the mystical east. It truly is a sonic mish mash but I'm liking what I'm hearing. I will be laying down tracks over the next couple of months, so stay tuned for a few sneak previews here. All's I can say really is that since Jonny Howard has left the building creativity and inspiration has been flowing. It was along time coming. And on that topic I must say how excited I am to hear that next Wednesday Old Ruddmaster is finally going to apologise to our indigenous residents. Bout bloody time. And guess what.... Little Jonny Howard is the only ex-priminist who is not turning up. Surprise surprise..... Over and out monkey .......

SOLID TERRITORY 17-Sep-07
New Zealand's most influential hip hop act - Maori crew Upper Hutt Posse - is joining Melbourne's Combat Wombat at Ding Dong to play the SOLID TERRITORY solidarity jam for the indigenous people of the Northern Territory. UHP rose to fame cutting the first ever NZ hip hop release in '88, and are now finally bringing their powerful hip hop haka back to Australia in disgust of what's going on in the NT. Don't miss this one-off gig that includes a showcase screening of UHP frontman Te Kupu's rapumentaries: hip hop infused documentaries that travel the heartbeat of ghettoes in places like Cape Town, Mexico City, Detroit, Kingston and Paris.
Hip hop nomads Combat Wombat are back to play their new unheard tracks on Melbourne stages, after a season of hosting outback workshops and recording with Aboriginal elders to keep strong their rich history. Sonically rugged and funky, Monkey Marc's beats draw their influence from 70s reggae, Public Enemy's Bomb Squad and the golden era hip hop of the early 1990s, with ARIA award winning DJ Wasabi providing the cuts. MC Elf Tranzporter is the master of flow, rhyming with the gift of enviable flexibility, whilst MC Izzy's approach is the perfect contrast: her stand and deliver, take-no-prisoners approach, injects high-spirited passion into the mix. Their potent combination of hip hop, ragga and punk political flows has seen the Wombats reach 2 on Triple J's Net 50.
Upper Hutt Posse are the progenitors of Hip Hop/Ragga music in the South Pacific, releasing Aotearoa's (New Zealand's) first rap single 'E Tu' (Stand Up) in 1988. This they followed with an appearance on the Once Were Warriors soundtrack and producing five albums (the fourth was awarded 'Best Mana Maori Album' at New Zealand Music Awards 2003). The song writing vision of Te Kupu (The Word) and MC Wiya is the solid backbone of this ever fresh, fluxing collective of vocalists and musicians who rap in their Maori language, securing UHP a place well away from the complacent imitation of most NZ hip hop crews. Te Kupu is also a filmmaker, having traveled the ghettoes of the world to produce the rapumentary 'Ngaatahi - Know the Links' (Official Selection at Sundance Film Festival 2004), a six part music-documentary connecting the musical cultures and struggles of oppressed people worldwide.
Completing the line-up are the multilingual hip hop exponents Uber Lingua DJs, freshly back from a world tour that included work with Indigenous pirate station Radio Chanul Pom in Chiapas, Mexico.
