FRESH LEGS are from Portchester, near Southampton. They consist of Thom, Karl, Carl and Ella and they make a teeth-rattling eye-poking ear-twisting leftfield guitarish noise which quite possibly redefines the term ‘giddying’.

‘Chess’ is their second single release. It follows the chewy success of their ‘Samwise’ seven inch which snuck out late last year much to the radio delight of Steve Lamacq, who made it Single Of The Week, and Rob Da Bank, who invited FRESH LEGS to play Bestival.

‘Chess’ will be seeing the light of day on the single-tastic Cool For Cats label, previously home to the likes of The Kabeedies, Thomas Tantrum and Fight Like Apes. FRESH LEGS certainly fit the strop-pop vibe exuded by that collective, but they bring fresh ingredients to the indiepunk larder, not least their berserk guitar outbursts and Ella’s general all round exuberance which has already seen the foursome being compared to “Yeah Yeah Yeahs having dirty sex with Blood Red Shoes”. I think I’ve gone blind.

In conclusion then: indiepop fetishists will relish FRESH LEGS’ defiant guitars and haphazard melodies. And people who like to plan far ahead can relax safe in the knowledge that FRESH LEGS are already booked in to play the B2 venue in Norwich on November 21st, which follows on nicely, if somewhat distantly, from these dates here, here and here…

Silhouette is the mysterious musical alter ego of Leeds singer Helena Gee.

Silhouettes self described “dark pop” music is complimented by her dark fashion attire on stage, always dressed in black and behind a mass of dark hair, front row beware of her icy stare!! Silhouette combines her sinister guitar sound, influenced by the likes of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, with the lyrics/pop melodies of her favourite girls groups such as the Shangri-Las and The Crystals. Masquerade is a true tale of a young lady, whom Silhouette sees the dark car crash side to but nobody else does……

Prior to the creation of Silhouette, Helena was in the all girl band “The Ivories”. After supporting the likes of Placebo and Sisters Of Mercy, the girls split, Helena moved to London in 2007 and began writing some tracks for Basement Jaxx. She then adopted the name Silhouette, an aptly enigmatic pseudonym chosen after writing the song “I Am A Silhouette,” a tale of being able to slither threw a room unseen and learning others secrets along the way.

Silhouette will be bringing her dark, moody pop at the following UK dates throughout May and June:

May 2nd  - Live @ Leeds all dayer, Cockpit 3

May 15th  - Rip it up @ Tap n tin, chatham

May 19th  – God don’t like it @ Old Blue Last, London – single launch

May 25th  - Euroculture Festival, Manchester

May 27th  - Club Fandango @ 229, London

May 26th – Friends of Mine @ The Fly, London

June 5th: Pure Groove Instore, London

“If The Gun Club and PJ Harvey were cast in Drugstore Cowboy instead of gross old Matt Dillon, perhaps it would have been as tragic and cruel as this…” NME Aug 08

"Silhouette bowled us over with her powerfully rich and soulful voice backed by dark blues and dirty riffs." ArtRocker/ Sep 08

“There’s a gut-wrenching mood to Helena’s vocal delivery reminiscent on Nico or Patti…but she’s clearly got a style of her own” PiX Magazine / Aug 08

..and get a free badge and signed artwork as well!

just go to www.recordstore.co.uk  it couldn't be easier! and if you wanna know more about the molotovs, here's some info for you...

The Record: 'FLOWERS'  / 'I TOLD YOU BEFORE'

The Formats: SEVEN INCH / DOWNLOAD

The Label: COOL FOR CATS

The Release Date: NOVEMBER 24TH 2008

The Truth: THE MOLOTOVS consist of Will Daunt (vocals / guitar), Henry Walton (keyboards / guitar), Dom Millard (keyboards / guitar), Iain Lock (bass / sax) and Guy Henderson (drums). These five multi-tasking gentlemen spend much of their time in a room at The Fortress in Old Street, old London Town, frowning at their many instruments and formulating offbeat plans.

**Because THE MOLOTOVS are not like most other bands. While the name might suggest a bunch of dead-eyed teenies intent on roughing up the punk spirit of indie, THE MOLOTOVS are actually five extremely civilised young men who make a thoroughly decadent noise which they are more than happy to admit sounds like "'20s-inspired barroom French pop music". They aren't from France, and they don't appear to have been around since the 1920s, and so one can only presume that their arty, articulate signature noise which is a bit dusty, a bit rickety, a bit...continental has come about through a series of painstakingly happy rehearsal room accidents.

**Nor are we merely talking about the heroic soundtracking of Stella Artois adverts here, for THE MOLOTOVS' European flavourings are mixed with a British dash, a sparky take on the eloquent guitarpop lineage which runs from The Smiths to The Maccabees. 'Flowers' - their first ever release - sets the scene nicely, with its wonky accordian effects and perfectly enunciated vocals. Throw in their supremely nimble way with an indie rhythm and a deathly air of romanticism which has already brought forth comparisons to Vampire Weekend and The Walkmen respectively, et voila! THE MOLOTOVS are ready to, ahem, explode.

**2008 has seen THE MOLOTOVS in slow-burning development mode, visiting the cooler indiestablishments in town such as White Heat, entertaining the guests at Lightspeed Champion's album launch party and popping up for a raucous slot at Manchester Moho during In The City. Now safely established in the fierce panda management stable, 'Flowers' / 'I Told You Before' sees the quintet follow in the fun-lovin' footsteps of Fight Like Apes, Thomas Tantrum and The Kabeedies in joining the Cool For Cats seven inch roll call while gently pointing the band towards a hectic 2009. To celebrate the single release THE MOLOTOVS will be holding a torch for these venues here...

** The Story: The Kabeedies consist of Katie (vox), Evan (guitar/vox), Roary (vox / bass) and Fab(drums). They are four teenage tykes who live in Norwich, the home of indie, and suitably they play intelligent fizzbanging jingle jangling indiepop like they used to make in the olden days. Local hero John Peel would surely have approved...:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

** Indeed, The Kabeedies hark back to a time when alternative bands understood that DIY was AOK, booking tours without an agency behind them and making songs available to fans when they bally well feel like it, not when a major label can fit them into their release schedule. And dagnabbit their system works: Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq have consistently flagged up their support for the quartet on Radio 1 over the past year; The Kabeedies glistened at Glastonbury and nipped over the border into Suffolk for a victorious sort-of-homecoming at Latitude; and the autumn sees them embark upon the sort of string of self-booked dates which only either the young and pop-crazed or frankly foolhardy would contemplate taking on. Good work.

** Better still, while the vibrantly enthusiastic whizzpop of 'Treasure Hunting' represents The Kabeedies' second official single following the springtime release of 'Lovers Ought To' on Cherryade, these people being firm advocates of the indie ethic they also delight in 'releasing' EPs and tour singles when the mood takes them. The first week of September alone will see the mega cheap 'Ten Animals I Slam In A Net' gig-only EP released on vinyl by local label NR One Records as well as the launch of the 'The Radical Tearoom' mini-album in Japan.

** True to form, to promote 'Treasure Hunting' The Kabeedies will be shimmying through the following towns:

Hello everyone,

here’s the very random Cool For Cats newsletter, this time with 2 very important news.
First of all,Cool For Cats is officially 1! It feels like it was only yesterday when the first little purple single came out and the Old Blue Last hosted the sold out launch party, but here we are a year on,5 singles released, and a a string of incredible nights done.
Soooo,to celebrate this first year I’m having a very special party at the Old Blue Last on tue 25th of March..it’s free entry,as always, and features some of my favourite bands of the moment,i.e Official Secrets Acts,Thomas Tantrum,Situationists and William, + dj sets from my resident djs Tarts On Decks and my very good friend Richard Artrocker.
It starts at 8 and all the details are on the flyer on the cool for cats page. It’s gonna be my best night yet so make sure you don’t miss it,and get down early as it’s gonna be a very busy one!

And speaking of Thomas Tantrum, their single "Swan Lake" is the fifth single to be released on Cool For Cats,it’s out on monday on limited edition 7" vinyl and download, and can be pre-ordered both from our favourite indie shops Pure Groove and Rough Trade as well as hmv.co.uk. Thomas Tantrum have got fantastic reviews with all of their singles and have been played on pretty much every radio show, from Steve Lamacq to Zane Lowe, but if you don’t believe the hype come down on tue and see for yourself.Cool For Cats will be their single launch party,so it’s gonna be an especially good gig.

And that’s all for now..have a nice Easter weekend and hopefully see you all on tue.

'Swan Lake' is the third single from Thomas Tantrum, the female fronted four piece from Southampton who are one of 2008's most exciting and intriguing new bands. It's a glorious and brilliantly quirky slice of indie power pop. Complex, urgent arrangements and tempo changes, singer Megan Thomas's childlike, shouty vocals, and a slightly demented reworking of Swan Lake all make for a truly original and exciting musical proposition.

Their last two singles met with rave reviews and love from tastemakers such as Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy, and in fact 'Shake It, Shake It' was 6 Music's single of the week and was eventually added to the playlist.

Having made waves last year with a series of spell binding live shows, Thomas Tantrum have drawn musical comparisons as diverse as Cocteau Twins, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, PJ Harvey and Sonic Youth. They have been seen on tour again in February with The Futureheads, and have now the following shows coming up in March..If you're in London make sure you catch them at their single launch at the old blue last, it's our cool for cats night and there's a top line up for it.

Friday 7th March - Stoke Sugarmill (with the Futureheads)

Friday 14th March London Amersham Arms (w/ Good Shoes)

Saturday 22nd March Southampton Joiners (single launch)

Tue 25th March London Old Blue Last (London single launch)

Monday 31st March London Luminaire

Tuesday 8th April - Portsmouth The Cellars

Friday 11th April - Bristol The Cooler

Saturday 20th April - London Watershed

Swan Lake is out on the 25th of March but it's already possible to pre-order it from the lovely people at pure groove, copy and paste this link to get your own copy now!
