Hello Friendsters,

We are excited to be playing our first show in a few months this Sunday, February 15th at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge, MA. We are doubly psyched to be playing with old chums Pants Yell! and NYC kids The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and The Depreciation Guild.

It will be a fantastic indiepop show from start to finish, and we will be starting things off at 9:00PM with some new tunes we are really psyched on. Hope to see you there!

Our friend Tom at Bag of Songs blog has contributed a feature on Shrinking Islands for Internet listening portal Break Thru Radio.

You can read that here

Inman Street Records also gets a well-deserved shout-out. You can download our newest EP there as well as great stuff from Reports, Tulsa, Most Bitter, and Das Kitchen.

Thank you and be well.

These songs were recorded at Pine St. Laundry by Shrinking Islands, May-July 2007. Mixed from 4-track cassette to digital files at Pipeline! Studio, July 2007. The cycle, sometimes referred to as The Mellancamp Trilogy, was written as it was recorded onto the 4-track and tested out at shows.

Following the In The Black Carpet album, these songs satisfied an impulse, possibly initiated at a GBV tribute night, to play succinct rockers with some more Feelies motorik action - or heartland chug if you will. The cloak and dagger lyrics heard on In the Black Carpet are now dappled with Kiwi sunshine and generous fuzz and tremolo supplements, as they ride The Bats' daddy's highway straight onto the J. Cougar Farm-Aid stage, replete with above-the-head claps. Please listen to this with the windows open, or down, but preferably with the aid of boombox placed in a windowsill overlooking a sizzlin' grill.

Band In Boston is a wonderful operation based in Somerville MA. They do a fantastic job of supporting and engaging with local music they love and have superbly recorded dozens of bands right in their living room!

You could spend hours exploring thier site, but right here is where you can listen to our Flophouse Session. Some golden oldies from the In The Black Carpet CD, plus a couple of live staples yet to be given the studio treatment. It's Shrinking Islands Unplugged, with Kyle singing and playing acoustic and Andy on shaker, toy drums, and big old Ludwig bass drum, and I believe it ranks up there with STP, PJ, AIC and Erykah Badu. Enjoy!

We are happy to be a part of a stellar pop show at Great Scott. The wonderful Hands & Knees will accompany us as we help NYC's My Teenage Stride and Philly's A Sunny Day In Glasgow kick off their tour. If you haven't listened to either of the other bands do yourself a favor and visit their sites for complimentary audio files 'n' such.

This might be one of our only early-Summer shows, as Kyle is needed at a spectroscopy conference in Ohio and Andy gets wicked busy with work. We also owe our pal Ramsey some new recordings for his net-label Inman Street Records so we need to put our noses to the Tascam-stone to finish those up. Go there to check out releases from Reports, Most Bitter, and Das Kitchen (Anndy's old groop). Oh and speaking of super group side-projects, Kyle, Ramsey, and now Andy are all jamming with that succubus of funk, The Concord Ballet Orchestra Players

Pretty damn psyched on those two upcoming shows you can see over there...please get in touch for any info. Until then we are writing some new songs directly into the 4-track. Also very excited about the new Reports LP they are releasing, don't miss checking that out.

For the record, or for anyone who cares to read such things, we had two more reviews of the In The Black Carpet CD trickle in. Northeast Performer offered several graphs of enthusiastic praise. That was nice. Someone called "Slimedog" with The Noise had this to say.

Also if you are a writer or radio persona get in touch and we will send you a CD. Ta!

We are excited to hit the road soon to play with friends in Pittsburgh and D.C. On Sat. March 10th we will meet up with Raymond, Min and the other excellent musicians and people that make up the Sort Of Records Family when Sort Of takes over The Brillobox. We are definitely psyched to rock Kyle's former home turf and represent Boston with Paper Thin Stages.

Then on Sunday we'll go over to Our Nation's Capital to play a house party. Andy's former bandmate and Insect Fields label partner Jeffrey will play and Forbes Graham is also on tour. Then Blacke Knight & the Daylights will surely bring the party jams. Again, we are supremely psyched and please get in touch if you need info on either show.

We are playing at the Nerd Night party this Saturday night at the Midway Cafe in J.P. What to expect? Funny academic presentations and music. Powerpoint and pickslides...furrowed brows and flowing brews...fuzzy math and fuzzy riffs...um...it will be 50, 50 1337. No herfs allowed! Look here for more details.

We are happy to end a grueling year of touring around Cambridge, Allston, and Somerville by playing as legally close to Andy's apartment as possible. We will sneak back to the Double-Cheeseburger King, Charlie's Kitchen in Harvard Sq. with Conversions, Life Partners and Eggplont. A humbling and heart-warming display of scene unity indeed. Should be a magical, whimsical, festivus situation for the whole family....be there!

Many thanks to Manny Theiner at the Pittsburgh City Paper for his very generous review of In the Black Carpet

He hit the nail on the head by mentioning the Vehicle Flips. Kyle remembers trading an old Kyle & Aaron (Carlson) demo for the Vehicle Flips CD at an ANTI-FLAG show back in the day!
