Current mood:  optimistic
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
As of June 5th 2009, The Mojo Room has officially closed for business.

I can honestly say that it has been one crazy ride with incredible ups and downs. I can remember driving around Port St. Lucie four years ago looking for a space to rent saying, "Im gonna put a venue in this town and give us all a really cool place with great sound where we can have concerts".

About a year before opening I went before the St. Lucie County Commission and stood at the podium convincing them that we needed such a place around here and wouldn't you know it, they agreed.

Three months into construction, a water main was broken on our sprinkler system flooding half the stores in our plaza and setting us back two months.

Three months later construction was halted due to build out expenses getting out of control. After another delay and an extensive business plan re-assessing the situation, construction resumed.

Three months after that, the club was completed and we were ready to open our doors.

I can remember our opening night on October 28th 2006 when we had a line around the building for a sold out show while we were in a panic still trying to finish installing our tap beer system. The bands were Authority Zero and Smile Empty Soul and the show went off without a hitch.

Since then we've had bands such as Sevendust, Pepper, Badfish, Flyleaf, Saving Abel, DMX, Ying Yang Twins, Hed PE, Pennywise, One, Nonpoint, Skindred, Candlebox, Devil Driver, Elido, David Allan Coe, Molly Hatchet, Winger, Rehab, Infiniti, Icy, Baby Ann, Monk, Kill Hannah, Senses Fail and many many others.

We've had several different club nights, some good, some bad. At one point we even had a mechanical bull set up in the club. At another we had a swimming pool on the floor. We've had .Foam Parties, Pro Wrestling, Beach Parties, 80's Parties, Halloween Parties, St. Patrick's Day Parties, Girls Gone Wild, Glow Parties, Ladies Night, College Night, Bike Night, Rock, Top 40, Dance, Hip Hop, Raggae, you name it.

When I moved here from Palm Beach Gardens to do this, I knew about 10 people in this town. Since then I've made some of the best friends I have and I’ve grown to really like it here.

I've had the best staff any manager could ever hope for. We found a way to work together, be friends and have a mutual respect for each other. On holidays my wife and I were always happy to have everyone over for a pool bash and late night drinking fest. Those were great parties.

When I told my crew we were closing, most of them asked me if they could come and help me break things down and pack them away. It's not often that you put people out of work and have them reciprocate with long hours of helping you move. For that I am extremely proud and consider myself the luckiest manager ever.

I would like to thank Ryan, Russ, Keith, Amy, Dina, Tommy, Rob, Clint, Lynn, Marcello, My beautiful wife Lisa, Scott, Nikki, Joey, Dan, Ike, Big Rob, Frank, Tony, Kevin, Bert, Mike S., Wrighty, Bobby K., M-Tek, Ben, Jacob and of course Warren B. If I forgot anyone, please don't feel slighted. Iv'e been up for three days moving a large night club.

I'd also like to thank the people that really stood by us as loyal customers through thick and thin. It has been a pleasure having you.

So what's next? Another club? Yes!

Another Mojo Room? Unfortunately no. I feel it's time for something different around here. After getting everything moved and put away, I will begin planning the coolest place you have ever seen. A place that's fun from the minute you walk in the door.

I’m very excited for a new beginning and a new place. This will be a really positive turn of events. This is what we do. We plan clubs, develop them, get them open, shake things up, then the party starts. It gets better every time.

So here you have it, the truth right from the source. No drama, no big "story", no disaster, no getting shut down by the police, no going broke, no license being pulled, it has simply gotten too expensive in our current location to justify having a club there.

To you, our friends, we will see you again.

And to the so called "promoters" that are bragging about this by posting over 20 tasteless bulletins in less than 4 hours saying that we are "finally closed" as they try to scavenge a few customers while showing no class, I guess you'll have to find another parking lot to flyer.

Many thanks to all,

John Ciulla

Current mood:  optimistic
Category: Music

With the current state of affairs in the local music "scene", we at The MojoRoom have grown concerned. The closing of great smalller venues (such as Stage East) and changes in format of others created a void. There just aren't many places in St. Lucie County to go hear local original acts on a regular basis.

So was born "Live & Local @ The MojoRoom", a series of concerts featuring the wide variety of musical talent the Treasure Coast and south Florida has to offer. Shows will vary in genre, but we ask everyone to support everyone. That is the only way we can make this happen. Don't call it a "scene" if you are busy talking shit about other people doing what they love.

Upcoming shows are being planned and bands are being scouted. The main stipulation is this: if you are booked, you MUST draw. If you cannot do this we cannot book you. Simple economics. We need GOOD, PROFESSIONAL, LOCAL acts with the desire to play on a professional stage.

Any bands interested in can contact Dangeruss and Bobby at this page. Title your message "Live and Local".  Serious inquiries only. If you do not have music on your myspace please wait until you do. Due to the volume of responses, please message us once, and we will get back to you when able.

Shows will be posted as they are book on The MojoRoom's myspace in the upcoming shows section. There are two there now. Go look!

Thanks and please support local music, all bands started out that way.....
