we have just spent the last two nights in big sur on highway one. it is so beautiful here. the vibrations call to us. the trees embrace us. we didn't even know we had booked the same weekend as the festival in the forest. of course by the time we realized this, tickets were sold out. the night we arrived we sat on the porch eating our findings from the ferry building farmer's market in san francisco with wine from a winery we stopped in on our way to big sur. we could hear the murmurs of music coming from the forest. now if we could just find a little cabin to rent for an extended amount of time. i can actually sleep here! this year i performed during sxsw for the 7th time with my band experimental aircraft. sxsw is always fun, but as the festival grows older it also has become more corporate and the initial idea behind the fest seems to get lost. i have been ill and wasn’t feeling up to my usual sxsw consumption of bands, so i limited myself to one band (or venue) per night. here’s the round-up...

after a disappointing friday in austin (we missed the movies’ set by 15 minutes!) rachel and I decided a road trip was in order - a hurried four hour drive allowed us to see the majority of their set in denton - these guys are one of our favorite american bands right now - evoking the spirit of nico in their trademark hauntingly beautiful sound, their music is innovative and original while being firmly rooted in the ’66-’69 golden age of psychedelic recording - (in fact popular demand requested gena start performing their cover of knights in white satin in english, as opposed to the french version we got to see at last year’s SXSW showcase) - of course it never hurts to hear the introduction "I wrote this song in 1966." catch these guys while you can; their tour with rogue wave is brief.
