Official Media Release:
The Velo Vixens are gearing up to celebrate Velolicious Velotines Day!!
VICTORIA, BC – Woot! Woot! The Velo Vixens bike dance troupe is planning their 1st annual bike-themed Velolicious Velotines Day extravaganza on Sunday, February 10th, 2008.
The Velo Vixens are a bicycle dance troupe in Victoria, BC, who love to ride bikes, create socially-conscious dance routines, make and wear costumes, and perform for folks far and wide! We want to celebrate Valentine's, but are not into the whole commercialization of loving. But, we do love bikes, so what better way to celebrate than sharing the love on two wheels…?
The Velolicious Velotines Day will start off with both skilled and novice alike playing bicycle polo at Topaz Park lacrosse courts. What is this bike polo thing? Well obviously it's kinda like horse polo except you don't have to own a horse. The rules differ from city to city, and so do the styles. We have simple rules, don't play rough and all you need is a bike. Mallets supplied. All are welcome to join in the fun. 2pm Sunday, Feb. 10th.
Early evening will bring on the Velotines Alleycat Bicycle race. An alleycat race requires the racers to think and plan the quickest route to a series of checkpoints throughout the City. The type of bike the racer chooses is irrelevant, but fast is better. The race will start and end at Centennial Square, 7pm, Sunday, Feb. 10th. A Velo Vixen will be at each checkpoint, so prepare yourself for a little booty shaking…. Are you ready? $5 to race. Later on (after 8pm), we will be converting The Project (614 Fisgard Street) into a small & temporary love factory where folks can handwrite love notes to be couriered by bike on Valentines Day. These will be personalized messages of love hand delivered by the Velo Vixens. Choose from a variety of 'extras' such as Velo Vixen silk-screened underwear (for both men & women) to accompany your message. Get in on the fun in advance at Recyclistas Bike Shop (25 Crease Ave.), Reckless Bikes (1826 Government St.) and Oak Bay Bikes (1990 Oak Bay Ave.)

Wow...the VVs had an incredible vay-cay at Velomutations 2007!
Friday night a few of the VVs were fortunate enough to catch the fantastical performances and films associated with "The Pornography of the Bicycle" and the free-flowing fun of the Lingerie Bike Ride!
Saturday morning there was a bicycle brunch that rocked many socks, followed by an afternoon in the sun that included many bike events, polo, Carcass, performances, rides, races, and fun!
Saturday night the VVs performed with such greats as the B:C:Clettes, the Sprockettes, and the Brakes - not to mention a number of talented folk on (with) fire! It was our first official showing of our new material and it was a night to remember!
Sunday included Retro Bike Polo and nary a cloud to be seen!
All in all, an amazing weekend. Thanks to the organizers, performers, friends, and enthusiasts - the VVs can't wait to visit the fair-Van-city again very soon!
