Throne of Blood Records is back with a release by ZOMBI

The band's signature sound, achieved using only electric bass, drums, and a collection of analog synthesizers, is deceptively lush considering its two man skeleton crew ensemble. Moore's bass playing and meticulous synthesizer programming interacts seamlessly with Paterra's controlled, precision drumming -as if each man is anticipating his counterpart's next move. Punctuated by Moore and Paterra's seasoned songwriting skills, each Zombi song -whether grand in design like "Night Rhythms" from the band's Surface To Air LP or powerful and driving like "Orion," the opening track on Cosmos -is entirely autonomous and true to the duo's creative vision.

On „Sapphire“ and „Long Mirrored Corridor“ however, Zombi display a new, more dancefloor oriented side, injecting the propulsive energy of italo disco to their unique brand of instrumental prog. The result is somewhere between Giorgio Moroder and Goblin, Vangelis and Venom 18. Imagine sinister synth textures, tough arpeggiated grooves and steady four to the floor rhythms.

Never before released on its own, „Sapphire“ has been featured on several acclaimed mix CDs including Prins Thomas’ Cosmo Galactic Prism double CD on Eskimo. Backed by the brand new „Long Mirrored Corridor“ and stripped back remix of „Sapphire“ by New York disco revivalist ensemble Escort, this underground classic is finally coming fully remastered and beefed up for the most discerning dancefloors.

As we close the doors on 2008, sweep all that "Disturbia" dust under the rug and wheel away piles of "4 Minutes," it may be time for new artist to explore. That's where I come in. I'm here to let you know about five new artists to keep your eye on in '09. Now, when I use the word "new," it is simply referring to the fact that they may be new to you, and are definitely new to this bloggy-thing. Ohh!! And look for each bands "Tasty Track" to get a hint of what they will offer in the new year.

No. 5: Dances With White Girls [MySpace] - Another Brooklyn-based artist (geeshk they are coming out of this borough like bugs on a zapper,) he is mixing up tracks all crazylike. In early 2007 work began on his CD "New Crack Swing." Hip-hop mentality with house music storytelling, his sound blends raw house and unhinged party anthems. The CD tells the story of a out of town kid who made New York his oyster, smashing a hole in what dance music has been and can be along the way. His Tasty Track is "Everyone's Gotta Make A Livin," (below) a kickass eltrotrack with samples from a J.Lo single (which are actually samples from another single) ... this may be a new club-banger for sure.
