Current mood: mellow
This is your myspace page. Plain and simple. The Yellow hostel has set this up not to pull you in with some sleek advertising ploy or crap like that. Chances are, if you are reading this, you've already stayed at the yellow or at least know someone who has. The place speaks for itself and we know if you are coming back to Rome we will see you again. We set this page up for you. We know you meet some amazing people here. A wide range of crazy (the todd), hilarious (Colter), and just damn entertaining (mercedes) travellers (as well as staff, ahem...bill and frau) and sometimes you don't want to lose track of them. Whether its to get some photos from that one pub crawl (philly, face and skinny!), a place to crash in NYC (Frumberg!), or just someone to meet up with in Prague (any takers?)...use the Yellow Hostel myspace page as a tool. Your networking tool, m'kay?! In the spirit of this, we do not advertise for any companies or other hostels, no matter what! i repeat, WE ARE NOT GOING TO POST YOUR ADVERTS, SO DON"T EVEN BOTHER! if any of you out there are looking for a hostel around europe, just check out our website for our recommendations. And if any hostel out there is looking to get onto this list, just drop us a line.
word.
And always remember...GET AWESOME! i know we will.
ciao, the yellowhostel

Current mood: excited
Category: Travel and Places
The train ride was long and probably a slight bit stressful, thanks to that random old man who passed out on your shoulder. Or maybe the stops at every obscure station from Firenze to Roma didn't help. Or the fact that in grand Italian fashion, the A/C was broke. If its anything like we have endured (as the workers of the yellow hostel are all just fellow backpackers looking for ways to keep their trip alive), we understand. But as you enter into reception, the weight is lifted off your shoulders (figuratively speaking of course, that backpack may still be pretty heavy) as you are greeted by fellow travelers lounging around the common room, enjoying the company and stories of others or perhaps the current Roma football game that is playing on our flat screen TV, peroni birra in hand.
Making your way up to the front desk, you are now under the helpful guidance of one of The Yellow's friendly, knowledgeable (and quite honestly, dashing) workers. They know you've been on your feet all day, backpack or cumbersome suitcase in tow, and they know that you want to just get your bags down and begin your time in Rome (whether that means grabbing a beer from us and chatting with some travelers, or getting out their into the seemingly endless history of Rome.) Whatever you are looking for, we are here to help. After a quick and painless check in (which includes a time code for free internet during your stay with us), we get you up to your spacious room.
After check in, the staff is at your disposal in a multitude of ways. You need to know a good restaurant? Just ask. The best place for some piece and quiet in a hectic city? We'll point you in the right direction. Looking for some late night debauchery in one of the world's most beautiful cities (made only more endearing by moonlight)? Chances are, the staff is on their way out, so just come along. Other than planned nights out on the town (perfect deals to fit the backpacker's budget, like our pub crawls and campo nights), the staff is more than willing to personally take you out on the town.
We're not just receptionists, we're backpackers too, looking for a good time out on the town. The only difference? While in Rome you won't have to worry about getting from the hostel down to say, Campo de' Fiori, the beating heart of Roman nightlife. Put away the lonely planet books, the bus schedules and the maps, and just come out with us. Much easier, no? The only thing you'll have to worry about is if you want to play another game of beer pong, or if you will have enough space on your camera for all the pub crawl antics, or if you want the bovari sandwich or your own personal concoction from the late night sandwich stop, Aristocampo (a traditional Yellowhostel worker stop before heading back to the hostel reception to continue the night.)
But The Yellow isn't just about the nighttime. We understand that you've come to Rome to understand the history of one of the greatest civilizations in the world. There is a lot of information to take in, and its often hard to figure out where to go first. The simplest solution? Ask. We have information on tours that you can book directly through us, focusing on either the Vatican City and the immense Vatican museums contained within the city walls, or the highlights of the Ancient City, from Circus Maximus to the Jewish Ghetto to the Colosseum (you remember Gladiator, right? Yeah. That's the one.) These are not your ordinary "pack of grandmas following the umbrella" type of tour. They focus on small groups of backpackers with a younger tour guide. Informative, but laid back and personal at the same time.
If'n the whole tour thing isn't your ideal, just ask the staff and someone will be able to guide you in the right direction for a day of sightseeing. We've got the maps, we've got the knowledge, we've got some info that won't be found in your "Rick Steves' Rome."
As for the hostel itself, there is plenty to brag about. The Yellow hostel has much to offer in the way of material things. But, honestly, that is not what makes it Rome's most popular hostel. Any place can offer the same type of clean, spacious and affordable rooms…if they wanted to. But what makes this hostel truly different are those people behind the desk greeting you when you come in through the doors. Thanks to our 24 hour reception, we are always nearby to help. You'd be hard pressed to find such an interactive staff anywhere in a hostel. If you think about it, we are all still traveling as well, and are still in the same backpacker mindset. You'd be surprised how willing the staff is to help, especially after previous experiences in other places, no doubt. Just ask.
