Another typical day in NYC. I run into the frontman from nickel creek Chris Thile for the 2nd time in 6 months. This time in the les where I am subletting. This is Just after I get off my cell phone with what I thought was my insurance company united healthcare. Turns out they don't cover me and I didn't know this because I have still been charged for it. Furthermore I finally approach the frontman from nickel creek, and he gives me his agent/manager contact @ IMG. I left with the most fleeting feeling that I usually get when I talk to such a grounded real respectable live musician, about something cause/film/ business related. WHen all I really want to do is talk to him about music, and what he is doing in NYC with all this distraction.... why? how ? of course the lense is different through his eyes, when he is in NYC with a purpose an agenda, and of course an existing agenda before he got here. He is and was successful before he lived here.. and such.. or maybe he doesn't live here full time? Just like I don't Either, and I've seen him 2wice in 6 months. Maybe I will get the interview for the film, maybe I won't but I learn everytime that I really want to know someone like that for the musicianship and perspective... not there image or star status.... which goes under the rador most of the time... in today's pop oriented music culture in america... I could have befriended him , like I did Jim Rado - and get his contact, and warm up to him and ask him legitimate music questions... but - like Jim, it can prove to be just a window not a door.... Perspective shows me that, you just never know.. and most people who achieve success in music performance have music in their heart... and focus on that... the music...

And Countless other great performers I have encountered shed a similar light... People are people. . . Musicians are musicians... you can't fake it...

Current mood:Senses opening
Hello,

We certainly live in the most interesting of times...  Fear overshadows love...

Below are 2 films that once you start watching it is difficult to stop, (literally unbelievable factual information is reveiled about, what we are all going through currently)

Why I chose to send this out to everyone I know?

Answer:  This is serious... When was the last time you woke up , and said , " mmm... Everything just makes sense today!" I think I can take a rest now...? Or is it more like.., "ok, today is like most days I have where, there is this underlying elusiveness upon my daily life, where fear is ever present and my present state of existance is entirely misunderstood." ?

Bottom line:  People, just check out these films for yourself... and you be the judge.

 Feedback is welcome

"Mind Your Music because Music Minds You"

This is a condition. A fight to move forward for something that you know is right, however you seem to not be able to get there. Are you incapable or just thinking too hard? The circumstance is such, that the handicapp of being in a dysfunctional city requires hyperfocusing and obsessive focus of attention.  Thus we move forward this past weekend @ the madhatter festival.

This is not your full blown most efficient festival, however it is certainly the RIGHT IDEA! we were not going to fight through the committees of middle men/women who had been outsourced to the 3rd power in order to Blow out the Grove with Grooves that were everywhere.

We hit Commodore Street.  A picture perfect Corner of Commodore and Grand, where the unwound strings took the corner and popped its cherry. I mean we were grooving, and people were digging it.  The groups to follow all day were nothing short of Awsome. This awsomeness cannot be replicated in a bar or a place of worship or in a concert hall. This is the streets man! Flow of people, traffic, and the elements.  You just might "Pick somebody Up" with your jams that day even if they don't stop to acknowledge your performance. in just a half an hour a few hundred people walk by, and you have hit them all!

This is a packed house. Put a few hundred people in a club and your supposed to get paid right? WRONG!

The connections I saw on the streets with families, babies, parents, individuals, lovers, old grumpy men, latin hipsters,   they were hit with music..... and those connections are priceless.

Creates a spiritual and feel good environment for the grove in an age where feel good environments are being lost to strict commerce and parking lots. Internet, digital, useless jobs to save employement with obselete new technology.

This is my blog people, and I am telling you ....

If miami unsigned were to go no further than this festival, I have already done what I had set out to do. It has already made an impact. It's about the Music, and not the image. It's about the little things. It's about an equal exchange. It's about giving... It's about SHARING IS CARING.

Miami Beyond it's tradition, unfiltered.  The Grove shall be preserved, like fairchild and rachael carson. Let there be music with that.

OH and of course - every performer got PAID! thanks to the grove merchents of course, and the newfounded music lovers who tipped generously.

Downtown Miami Economic Initiative through Music (DEIM)

Downtown Miami has been in a slump in recent years but there is an initiative to stimulate economic growth. Whether it be shopping, restaurants, nightlife, or new residents the downtown area is brewing something representative of what a collective wholesome group of people want to see. The Miami Unsigned sponsorship package is designed for restaurants, retailers, and hotels from Downtown to the Design District to help foster an alliance that shows a growing community support and effort for revitalization. As a sponsor you will be gaining access to a social network of all ages and backgrounds of music lovers from all strata of Miami-Dade's residents and visitors.

Miami Unsigned supporters will help improve the life of musicians that need to perform, but have limited opportunities to do so in Miami-Dade County. Variety and increased quantity in styles and venues will lead to a wider audience and with success to a larger pool of musicians and venues. In addition to weekly Miami Unsigned Live Music Showcases, there will be monthly large scale projects including local and national musicians focusing on the downtown area. Our intention is to expand the number of venues as our sponsorship base continues to increase.

The power that music brings people together.

Current mood:defining

Last Night we hosted Miami's First Screening of Before the Music Dies.

 * although we got rained out... I am happy with the turn out.. and those that saw the film left with a new twinkle/spark in their eye. The film helps artists and industry people break free from their elusiveness by breaking down the common hype of pop culture that we take in on a daily basis.

* Music is..... in other words... music is with or without......... music exists first when it is created by an artist,   it then is subject to an audience. The creative process calls for existing without dependency.

This Documentary should be an essential part of anyones collection who is related to music.   The film is profound with its message and raw honesty. Narorrated by Forest Whitaker......... Interviews with key artists and industry people are key. Interviews with fans and artists are also crucial.   In the end , the message is clear that we are at a time of dissastifaction only it has taken a long time to change. We are figuring out change as fast as we can figure out how to think about what we take part in. Freedom of Choice in music listening and creation brings the demand for the audience to maintain conviction in having tolerance of listening to a variety of styles emerging from past and present. Bringing us to the future is, the idea that this process brings an authentic diversity is exactly what is missing in music today. It is the single thing that made the american music experience that much better in the beginning.

Current mood:  thankful

So I am in Philly for the weekend. Philly is home to an abundance of soulful and not so soulful artists.  The streets, the buildings, the sounds, the people, the first capital of the united states, where betsy ross designed the american flag. Where americas first lager was brewed. Where decisions were made for this country.

It is always nice to come to such a rich place in history. A city that has problems like any other city , but a city that you just can't turn your back on because it gave us so much. To the people who have lived here to the people that have never stepped foot here, philadelphia will always have a place in america's heart. The worlds heart for that matter when considering the immigration of people who came to philly to make it great alongside with New York City following.

To this day, no matter what city in the world, I hope that it is understood. Its the people not the place, it is any city anywhere in the world filled with people.

It is the music not the image.    It is so the music and not the image. As much as we want to believe its the image, it is still so very much the music.

May the city of philadelphia and the music industry find its balance in the years to come. The people here LOVE music not the IMAGE.... Its what they stand for.

MUSIC IS WHAT WE STAND FOR. FOR MUSIC STANDS FOR US TOO.
