venture out of myspace to the world of tumblr.

so last night’s show at rice university was our last show of 2009. the next time we play, we should have a finished record in our back pocket and a handful of new songs we’ll be itching to play. thanks a ton to everyone waited in lines in rain and snow and heat and humidity just to see our band. you all are the reason we’re able to tour another year, make another record and continue to do what we love. were gonna try to keep posting updates about the record and keep you guys filled in on how everything is going!

thanks again,
augustana

hello friends.  happy november.  we hope you all have been enjoying football and playoff baseball and halloween etc.  in our band we had one luigi, one peter pan, one michael jackson and two grinches (they didn’t dress up).  you should guess who’s who.
as far as the record, things are going well.  we’re having a blast with our 9 person recording family.  we’ve set up a 10-week madden league, we lay in a camouflage hammock, and we overuse football analogies.  we may be sports geeks, but i assure you that we are making some music too.
we skipped out to athens, GA last week and had a great time with all the bulldogs and non-bulldogs out there.  we’ll also be in houston next weekend at rice university, so if you’re local, we’ll see you there.
here’s two random pictures from outside the studio.  we’ll have some more soon.

i've numbered this 'record update #1' to imply that there will be more updates throughout the rest of the year.

we just finished a week of pre-production in the shadow of the 405.  it was a snug little room as you'll see below, but the perfect space for what we needed to do.  the actual record itself starts in about 2 weeks so we'll post more pics and videos when that happens.

we also just got back from a show at tulane university (which was a blast) and a show at university of iowa (which was a blast as well).  thanks to everyone who braved the cold, the humid, the parades and the muddy grass to see us.

see ya

Augustana has made some fantastic new fans while out on the road. Check out these SPIN Earth photos from one of the first stops on their tour with Counting Crows and Michael Franti, shot by photographer Manuel Nauta:

And the band also got some serious love from Brooklyn Vegan in their review of Petty Fest, a musical tribute to Tom Petty’s tunes:

"One of my favorite performances-- and this took me by surprise -- was the dude from Augustana singing "You Got Lucky."…his voice was sick and he had a commanding presence-- like a subdued Mick Jagger with the wrist at the hips with a dash of Joe Cocker in the vocal tone."

just a couple of pics from wednesday’s show in central park. keep an eye out on PBS for the special called “The National Park: America’s Best Idea.” the set that we played with counting crows isn’t in the broadcast, but we did hop onstage for the finale led by peter and paul from peter, paul and mary. it was an incredible honor to be on a stage with legendary musicians like carole king, alison krauss, jose feliciano etc., and one that we won’t forget.

so summer has come and gone just like that.  we are all back home after what was a very long and fruitful tour.  for any of you that made it out to one of the circus shows, you can understand how much fun it was to be onstage with such vivacious and talented musicians, and how difficult it was to part ways with them once it was all said and done.  but that's how tours go; they're these massive, long things that end up feeling like they only last a second.  we wish the best to the cast and crews of michael franti + spearhead as well as counting crows, and i'm sure we'll see you all soon.

as for us, we are enjoying a little bit of downtime before head into the studio to make a record.  i know we've said this before, but i'm serious.  we're making it.  we haven't been playing any of these songs that we've been developing simply because we're still working on 'em, and we don't want to cheat you guys with half-finished, lazy versions.  these songs are more us than any others, and we're beyond excited to get them down.  we'll do our best to keep you guys updated on the process with videos, pics and blogs and stuff.  we're planning on being finished by christmas, so that means it'll probably be coming out by spring/summer of 2010 (or maybe 2011, 2012, 2013. you never know hahahaha).

we do have some college shows coming up, so if you see some fliers around campus, believe them and come.

thanks to all of you who paid to come see 3+ hours of loud music this summer, and thanks to all of you who hopped the fence too.

see ya
