Depeche Mode and True Blood. How fucking cool is that!?!?!?

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Let's face it. America is a fucked up country in our views. When I was married, my Finnish wife thought our country was backwards in some things. Like television. Europe has nudity on broadcast  TV. Half the things we consider "lewd" or "inappropriate" on TV here are pretty much everyday life there. We 're so anal about shit. No nipples. No nudity. No gay men kissing. Remember when it was a huge deal to show a naked baby in the 70's? Then a naked ass on NYPD Blue came almost 20 years later.

The world has had many black leaders and no one makes a big stink about them. Why has it been so hard to get one elected in the USA until now? Now that we have one, we always seem to throw that in the sentence like it's a handicap or something. "He might do good. At least for a black guy" or  "Well...he's rather smart, has a higher IQ than Bush or McCain... but if he fucks up, we'll never elect another black man again!"  I've actually heard statements to that effect.

This country is in some deep shit and I don't know why anyone would even want the job of President. But this was the better of the two teams.

The problem is, that in America, the black man is feared.  Feared since slavery so you had to enslave him.  Now that he's President, no one has a clue what to do about it. Black people joke that it's like the ticket to happy land. Chris Rock said it..."If Obama gets elected on a Tuesday, don't expect niggas to do shit for ya on Wednesday. If you're in an airport, get y'own damn luggage!"  We've been a country trying to keep the "African American" down for so long we're clueless as to what to do. "The man is trying to keep us down." Well now the "man" is black.  This fear leads to stupid jokes on both parts. A text joke went around the cellphones on the day after election day. "All white people are to report to the cotton fields at 6am!" Then came the pictures of the White House photoshopped to be painted black  ( Blackhouse ), or with a watermelon patch in the front green (Whitehouse Watermelons  ).

The rest of the world laughs at us and our prejudices. Did you know that? Oddly, they support Obama more than we do. They applaud our belated charge into the 21st Century. What does America call support? Capitalistic pimping and sales of commemorative merchandise. The Obama commemorative jacket, watch, coin, electric train, t-shirt, video, plate, flag, picture. If I were him, I'd be the one selling myself. Shit! You could solve the deficit with those sales alone!!

So I was watching the inauguration from..everywhere. My house, my phone, my mom's house. It was amazing the spirit of Washington DC. It sure wasn't that way when Bush was elected then re-elected.  Not a single incident (except for Ted Kennedy) happened. No one started a panic or a mob scene. No one was shot when he got out of the car. America, you can be proud of those Americans present for being so well behaved.

After 9/11 Americans and especially New Yorkers were nicer to each other and more brotherly. After the election a slight wave of "hope" and "help was on the way" came over us. Now, yesterday, once again, we all feel like freed slaves. So many vaginal jokes about saying goodbye to Bush were texted and tweeted on Twitter and Facebook. No man was more vilified in our time than Bush as he left on Marine 1.

I will say this. Little white children were told for decades that in America you can be whatever you want to be. Little black children were told you can be whatever you want to be except President of the United States. Barack gave me a new hope. Not to be President, but to prove that if you have what it takes and the support of the people then you actually can achieve you goals no matter what odds are against you. He proves to me that the ceiling truly is glass and once you smash it iin your own mind, you can smash it in real life.

I know this will be part of my commentary tonight on the Darkhours at 10pm EST exclusively on KMRL Mojoradiolive.

Middle Able.

I was watching The Big Idea with Donny Deutch on CNBC the other week, and I'm seeing trends today I'm amused at.  In the Church of the Epical, we talk about building and being one's own Superhero, but now it seems we're trending towards a new sort of "immortality".

Allegedly, the human race now gets a second chance at life. The middle aged are now what I will coin the phrase as "middle ABLE".  It appears that the latest generations of the "elders" are refusing to grow old gracefully. They believe that 50 is the new 30. Subsequently 40 is the new 20.  This was now substantiated by that nights broadcast.  That episode talked about midlife millionaires with book author Marianne Williamson who wrote THE AGE OF MIRACLES: Embracing the New Midlife.  They brought in a panel of people that all reformatted their lives and careers by not letting the old ways of thinking get them down or set them back.  See the video below.

..

We live in a new world where those old farts from 35 to 55 can actually start living or rather RE-living life. They consider their 20's as the practise run and that a decade or two later after they've become what they thought society dictated, they find they can now be what they always dreamed of!  There was one guy who stopped being a lawyer and at 38 he decided to follow his dream of pushing onward and becoming a cartoonist. Another, a soccer mom, picked up a guitar and became a rocker mom now in a band called the Mydols who I'll be featuring on the Darkhours now that  I have received their CD forthcoming in the mail. They basically showcased all these people that decided to go after and achieve their dreams no matter what. Should we thank that 51 year old guy in the Bowflex commercial? Who knows. All I know is that there's an immortality trend going on out there as we as a race become more health and longevity conscious . The push to ban and quit smoking, to design more revolutionary exercise  equipment, to eat less fatty foods, to replace sugars that turn to fat...it's all prolonging life. Some Hollywood stars obsess too far, but in this day an age, it's more naturally done than with the plastic surgery and botox. I believe that that's also a new vanity point. To look young naturally without needing enhancements.

If you're like me, and you think you're past a certain age to do something like say....make a hit record, you're not. You no longer have to say "I'm past 25, let me go be a CPA now that I'm too old to make it" cause you're wrong.
The record industry is more of a money making machine that cares about revenue and marketability. Although, some of todays charting artists are younger, some of the current chart toppers are older established names that are accepted by all. Currently the number one album is Janet Jacksons  new "Discipline " album. Janet turns 42 in May and she looks like she's 26 in video.  It's a remarkable new world where you can be virtually immortal. If a record company likes your sound and you have the look to go with it, then you'll be signed no matter how old you are.

A new TV show on TV Land is called "The Big 4-0" which is about people turning 40 and really not going down without a fight. They do extreme sports, skydive, bungee jump and tons more things one wouldn't expect the stodgy 40 year olds of yester-decade to do. This only further fuels the forty-plus fire. We as a species are pushing for this new Uber-Man that if he cannot  live forever, he will live much longer. 2000 years ago, you were married by 12,a major force in the community mid lifeing at 20, an aging man by 30 and dead by 50. So I guess it's only fitting that we can progress like this into the future.

At least I know that when I'm done with the music, selling it's not going to be as hard. It will be judged not on my age, but on it's quality, merit, marketability ,sound and vision. Most importantly , keep the blinders on and do not listen to "nay-sayers". Those are the jealous who see the greatness in you and want to see you fail.

In regards to the Darkhours Season II Premiere...all I can say is ...

...wow.

Darkhours Avatar.gif

news:

The Season Premier of the Darkhours Season II was one of the proudest moments for the show as we hit record high numbers for both attendance and listenership! The turnout was awesome! With record attendance and a steady stream of comers and goers in the chatroom it almost looked like an episode of "Hear Kitty Kitty (formerly Webkittyn Wednesdays")

I want to thank everyone for coming and making it a huge success. I know that our numbers crushed our competition with 5 times the listenership and participants...and O did wehave a good time!

Besides the hot new theme/intro to the show, the Darkours featured bands like: Sirenia, Gothminister and Lords of Acid....there was a block of odd cover by Korn, Candyflip and Fear Factory and we tripped into the alternative vault for tunes from Dominatrix, Depeche Mode, Alice Cooper, Dead or Alive, Camouflage and so much more!

We also world premiered the single "Judgment Day" ... the dark hip-hop song by Bronx-Ville. featuring Miladah. The crowd agreed, it's got hit written all over it!

This was one helluva show! This is one of those shows you'll wish you never missed...and if you didn't miss it, one of those you'll be sure to treasure...til next week.

I'd like to thank Miladah from the band Bronx-ville (myspace page) for making a guest appearance in the chatroom when we world premiered the truly excellent dark sounding hip-hop tune; "Judgement Day", and excellent mix of rap, hip hop and gothic choir sounds.

The new Darkhours show blog has opened. This is where you'll normally find posts about the show besides the station blog and right here.

Even though my regular blog (the Path to Endarkenment) is a "Marauding Marsupial" in the illustrious "Truth Laid Bear" blog eco-system (the god of blogging community rankings) second only to my rankings on  Technorati, I think those who mostly sequestor themselves in the microcosm that is myspace (member sites don't fair well outside of the membership community) should get to know me here also. Although all the real answers are found on my real blogs (banners and buttons on my main page), a few updates wouldn't hurt.

Especially when my radio show is about to air.

On occasion, some of these may be reposts of what I put on the main blog.

Well...since Epichronical.com has yet to be designed and http://churchoftheepical.org is mostly the Epical belief and not the music... I think I'll chisel this into here for the moment.

After a year, I made tremendous headway on "Consecrate: Anthem of the athame" this weekend. I would say it's 98one to the laymans ear and 89one to my ear (and probably 75one to my OCD impaired engineer).

Keep your eye on my http://blogsofrealplay.com/Members/Darkstar for the story of this odd yet grueling session in the studio and posibly me posting the song like Darkside either here or I may get a site on http://www.audiostreet.net/for the purpose of secure streaming.

Until then... see: http://www.churchoftheepical.org/archives/the_hymns/index.htmlfor the lyics.

Current mood:  aggravated

Since the beginning of Rock and Roll, rockers and rappers get the shaft. They're blamed for far too many things from bad behaviour to school shootings. When it comes to the latter, no one thinks anything of inner city kids carrying guns to school or getting involved in gang related shootings at an educational institution. Most of those schools these days have invested in tighter security or at least metal detectors.

Let's move onto the latest line of killers. The bad rap of today going to: Goths.

It's amazing how subcultures morph into something so far away from their roots. Now turning into the next mainstram, goths are getting a worse rap than ever.

The Trenchcoat Mafia:
Kept amongst themselves, wore long black jackets, seemed depressed, listened to Goth and Industrial music. Shot up Columbine High School.

Jeff Weise: Native American Neo-Nazi Goth. Kept to himself, seemed depressed, wore black, listened to goth and industrial. Shot up his school in Red Lake Minnesota.

Scott Dyleski: Kept to himself, wore long dark jacket, seemed depressed, listened to Goth and Industrial music. Bludgeoned Pamela Vitale, wife of high profile defense attorney and TV commentator Daniel Horowitz.

All three were instantly tied into Satanism. How stereotypical is that? The unfortunate part about these incidences is not that they are goths. It's the fact that they are simply tragedies with one common bond. They are all alleged to be goths. Goths themselves are in an uproar. Usually because of the stigmata being attached to them. They are being
villaified as devil worshippers or overtly depressed or detached from life or obsessed with death.

First let me say, I've been a goth and to those who don't understand the Epical way, they would consider me a goth still out of ignorance. (Goths vs. Epicalists). So basically I understand the subculture and it's history and how it's changed drastically since its inception.

Giving or taking 5 years depending on how long a trend takes to catch on in the mainstream, lets look at the path of blame. 50 years ago, they would have blamed this on Elvis, rock and roll and reefer madness. 40 years ago they would have blamed it on the Beatles, Jack Keroac, Hunter S. Thompson and LSD.30 years ago, they would have blamed it on Black Sabbath, The Who, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd and herion. 20 years ago they would have blamed it
on Quiet Riot, Metallica, Ratt, Twisted Sister, Anthrax and Motley Cru and cocaine. 10 years ago they would have blamed it on Gangsta rap,Grunge and Nirvana and methamphetamines.

Face it. No matter what, the mainstream needs a scapegoat.  When it comes to goth, they're the soup du jour. But as you may have previously read in Goths vs. Epicalists ,it's not a unified subculture so it offshoots into too many other aspects.

I did wonder about the described carving into the victims flesh on the latest incident. A cross made with two slashes. When did this become goth? Last I remember, that was the symbol for the American heart Association.  They need to release some sort of sketch to the media so we understand these things.

Basically, they will always blame music. And it's always music the authorities don't understand. But you can't blame the music, the movies, the video games or the bands. Why don't we start blaming the parents for not doing their jobs? Why don't we do something about the childs depression other than going off to work while we leave them alone doped up on happy pills? Why don't we take a stand and be a presence in their lives? Why are we as a society, passing blame yet doing nothing about it? Before one can go blaming subcultures, why not let it examine itself? Subcultures offer a variety of things that are lacking in regular culture. Goths sought to be understood. They're the modern day hippie simply looking to fit in where they feel they don't elsewhere. They wanted to
enjoy the creativity of design, dress and a penchant for things normally looked upon as creepy. They enjoy shock value as any prior shock culture had done. They have varying religions, tastes in the type of dark music. To quote from
Gothtec.com :"Goths are NOT all: depressed, unusually bigoted, violent, suicidal, involved in illegal drugs, Vampires or believe themselves to be vampires, sado-masochists, Satanists, musicians/painters (and other artists), computer programmers (although there seem to be a lot of them), wearers of black (some wear white and gunmetal), yers of their hair, users of white makeup."

So then..what are they? The music is so varied in the subculture that it has no cohesion.

And of all this? What do Satanists say? Always so quick to blames Satanists as if Satanists do nothing but run around and kill and sacrifice people. Why is it always "he had gotten into being goth and ...A SATANIST!!" I think there's a few pretty pissed off Satanists right about now.

Enter the new Sherrif: Epicalism. The Epicalist does not need to dress a certain way to fit into the club". They don't have have a certain look or wear a particular makeup. They simply have to do two things: Believe in it's tomes and philosophies and listen and recreate it's music. That is all. There's soon to be a website devoted to nothing but Epicalism as a movement. A movement based n acceptance with less restrictions and a greater celebration of all
things dark, within which depression can be uplifted from the mire as we take away the hurtful intent of all things negative. To translate that to a goth or Metalhead? Basically that means it's Goth grown up or sophisticated Metal.

ber-elitism breeds discontentment and resentment. Epicalists are a brood family that isn't locked in the chains of most subcultures conformist nonconformity. If ever there was something to save the wayward souls... This is it. It's coming.

BRACE YOURSELF.

Darkside: Music, Lyrics by Darkstar 1/19/02
Revised for recording 6/12/02 Co-producer Lara Sky
Revised again 7/11/02
Revised ONE FINAL TIME 7/19/02 (extra verse added)

Intro : Faithhas left you disillusioned.
Beliefhas been washed aside
Seeking and end to mass confusion?
Look within yourself to find solace in
The Darkside.
Thunder / dynamic hits.

VERSE 1
Pity the boy, who sits alone sad,
finding out the truth why he had no dad.
The mother he had was not what he thought,
revealed one day as the two of them fought.
That one fateful day when he stumbled in,
to find "auntie Jane" and mom locked in sin.
Now the truth's out, and here is the take.
Mommy was gay and he's a mistake.

VERSE 2
Pity the girl who sits alone weeping,
saddened by dad who touches her sleeping.
It's been so long, since back when she's young,
As shes smelled alcohol on his tongue.
Nobody helps and she had stopped eating
momma was traumatized by the beating.
Then came that day when it all hit the fan,
Now hes on his knees and the guns in her hand.

BRIDGE/CHORUS
Where's this enlightenment that was to be?
Where is this Christ they say walks beside me?
All of those years living scandalous lies...
forces me to ally myself with my

...DARKSIDE (start choir) ...DARKSIDE
...DARKSIDE Reach inside and find solace in my DARKSIDE!

Finnish chant:x4
Antauduu tummas tahtea voimalle

VERSE 3
Pity the boy who sits and he bleeds,
carves his skin, it's attention he needs.
All the while his parents don't care... they say
"The Aderol keeps him out of our hair"...
"off to school, hell we pay them to teach him."
"his social problems aint worth time to reach in..."
"careers dont give you time for a son..."
Now wonder why he's at school with dads gun?

VERSE 4
Pity the girl who went to a "rave" when
someone drugged the water she craved
Her head spun and no one new next just
when she started tripping on 'X'
Emergency room she was rushed.
Eyes glazed as her stomach they flushed
pray to god for life that day as
Death snickered and took her away.

Bridge/Chorus

VERSE 5 (the summation)
Pity us all for living such fates
Trying to see for why we keep faith
everyday as we look to the stars and
Seek answers in prescription jars.
Remember the troubles and strife
And when they said "how precious was life..."
"go to church to pray for relief..."
instead we got sore knees and more grief!

Bridge/ Chorus~Guitar solo~Bridge/chorus fade~end
