NAHEBA is a folk music group from Cantabria (North Spain), whose work is based mainly in the composition and arrangements of Cantabria traditional music. Naheba sound is mainly acoustic, based in instruments like fiddle, flute, bagpipe, acoustic guitar, bouzouki and percussion. Our most important influences are acoustic groups like The Tannahill Weavers, LLan de Cubel, Corquieu, The Bothy Band; and irish, scottish and cantabrian music in general.

The group was established by the end of 2003,when Javi,Sergio and Rafa, all of them well known folk and celtic musicians, joined together to play some of the arrangements of cantabrian tunes Javi had written.A few months later,Jose(Cambera'l Cierzu) and Esteban joined the group, but this last one left a year later due to personal reasons. Another Javi (L'Arca de Sueños) substituted him, and brought with him a personal and sparkling fiddle playing and a big amount of Campoo tunes.

In March 2006 that line-up performed their first concert in Sala Eventos (Santander) and since then they have played in festivals both within Cantabria and abroad: Festival Sauga Folk 2007 (Colindres), Festival Mendebala 2007 (Sopuerta), Festival Cantabria Infinita 2007 y 2008 (San Vicente de la Barquera), Folkomillas 2006, etc, and some concerts in festivals and pubs in Asturias, Logroño or Palencia.

At the end of 2008, Naheba released their first album “Vau Cureñas”, whose name refers to a beautiful mountain in Sejos (Cantabria), a place where you can get lost among the amazing landscape and the feeling of freedom. It's composed of 11 tracks which range from well-known traditional tunes (La Molinera) to compositions of their own, arranged in an acoustic or pop style (Libertad)

It is worth pointing out that the group, despite its recent inception, has a wide musical background in folk music bands in Cantabria, as 4 of the 5 members of Naheba have played in others bands who won some important musical contests like Injuve'97 (Javier García with Untu de Osu), Concurso Jóvenes Promesas del Folk de Castropol'01 and III Concurso Internacional de Folk Cuartu los Valles'02 (José Luis Rodríguez with Cambera'l Cierzu) y III concurso Escenario Prau and III Folkez Blai de Ermua in Vizcaya (Javier Roman "Niñu" with Vallarna).

Javier García: Bouzouki , wooden flute in Eb

Javier Román “el niñu”: fiddle, voice and backing vocals

Sergio Sordo: Asturian Pipe in Bb, wooden flute in Eb and whistles

SINCE LAST DECEMBER,NAHEBA HAS BEEN WORKING IN THEIR FIRST STUDIO RECORDING,WHICH  WILL BE RELEASED HOPEFULLY NEXT SUMMER. THE CHOOSEN STUDIO IS " VUMETER ESTUDIO DE SONIDO" (CABEZON DE LA SAL,CANTABRIA),AND THE SOUND ENGINEER IS JAVIER LOPEZ JATO "JAVETA".

THIS ALBUM WILL HAVE 12 TRACKS,MANY OF THEM ARE ARRANGEMENTS OF CANTABRIA MUSIC AND SOME ARE OUR COMPOSITIONS.

THIS IS THE REASON WE HAVEN'T UPLOADED ANY TRACK YET,BECAUSE WE WANT PEOPLE  TO LISTEN OUR MUSIC AS GOOD AS WE CAN PLAY IT (WE HAVE OF COURSE OUR FIRST DEMOS,BUT WE THINK PEOPLE DESERVE TO LISTEN A BETTER STUFF).

SO,AS SOON AS WE HAVE ANY FINISHED TRACK WE WILL UPLOAD TO MYSPACE,AND YOU WILL HAVE AT LAST THE CHANCE TO LISTEN OUR MUSIC.BE SURE WE WILL MAKE OUR BEST TO LET YOU KNOW IT.

ALL THE BEST
