Hello,

I decided to add a new Palo Verde improv to our myspace player.

It is improv number 5 of 5 recorded on October 24 2008 at our studio, Kleinknecht Inc .

This track comes before newly acquired knowledge. That of dithering. I still do not completely understand how to apply dithering to my stereo master bus. It's a process that makes it statistically possible to improve the resolution of the conversion process below LSB level. No dithering on this track. It was converted 'audio mixdown' style within Cubase from 88.2 [24] to 44.1 [16].

This is how I've been 'mixing down' digital audio for a year and a half now. That explains all the non desirable harmonic distortion, and digital bit refuse distortion..(clicks, pops, general fuzzy-ness...of the non J Mascis sort.)

Also of note, this is another standard 'rush job' mix. It was prepared for our 10.25.08 Tacoma WA show at Doyles Pub. I had to mix in a jiffy before loading and boarding Bertha for the 3 hour journey to Tacoma.

Why not remix it you ask? I will later. I just wanted to put up a fresh Palo Verde improv now. It's been since March that we last put up a fresh track. Lord knows we have bundles of songs on tapes and hard drives. I've just been too busy sucking at life to mix and upload them. My apologies.

To hear the full blosom of this track (and it does bloom) and the other 4 selections from this session you'll have to purchase the 5 track hand packaged, properly mixed/mastered disc at our next show: Tube 11.17.08 9pm w/ Prize Country.

Thanks for your time and support.

Best Always,

LKN

Picture this: Two skinny white chicks on tour, driving a big ol' van full of wholesome things like Triscuits, copies of Guitar Player magazine, Eddie Van Halen's biography, vitamins, and dumbells for pumpin' iron. Enter the Sacramento police department, chompin' at the bit for a road rager with a gun. Police see Bertha (our beloved van) and  me driving her (apparently I somehow fit the description of a psychotic road rager). The police (about 6 of them) then attempt to apprehend L & me at gunpoint while screaming orders at us. They made me stick my hands out the window to open the door from the outside (which didn't work for some reason--luckily they didn't shoot at me when I had to reach inside to open the door). Then I had to back up to them with my hands in the air, and then kneel down so they could handcuff me from behind with a gun pointed at my head. Then they search me and throw me into the back of their car. Then, they're yelling at L, "Get the fuck out of the car asshole!" with rifles pointed. Follow same process for her, and throwing her into a separate car. Well, they quickly realized they had the wrong people after searching through ol' Bertha (they sadly missed the only non-wholesome thing in our possession--a dildo that we keep w/ us for harassing truckers on the road), and appologized. I think they felt bad for scaring the shit out of us. Fortunately we hadn't yet changed our name so that I could savor the look on the cop's face when he asked us what our band was called. Unfortunately, I'm sure they never found the person they were looking for since they wasted all their time on us. Sadly, we didn't make it to our L.A. show due to the delay, but we did get a great story in the process. The scary thing about the whole ordeal is that my head was immediately full of all the stories I'd heard about cops mistakenly shooting someone, whether it was a person they thought had a gun or someone who didn't respond to their orders in the right way. I know that in the haste and intensity of their guns and screaming and not being able to hear everything that was going on, it would've been easy for me to make a false move without even realizing that's what I was doing. All in all, I've always had good experiences with the cops. They've usually been helpful and considerate in all my interactions with them. I can appreciate the work they do, and am aware of the intense stress they must deal with on a regular basis. That still doesn't change the fact though that in the end, cops are basically big testosterone-filled walking penises ready to shoot their guns.

LKN is currently finishing mixing songs we recorded w/ Radio Sloan several months ago. So far, it is the most accurate recording of us to date. It is magical (and should be accompanied by a laser light show). Recording in Radio's enchanted basement studio was dreamy, inspiring, and one of the funnest things we've done as a band. Not only did I get to play through her amazing huge fucking-loud Orange rig and vintage tube combo (which created the best tones I have ever played on a guitar--if only I could recreate that level of sonic superiority live), but LKN got to play in an amazing sounding drum room built by Radio and Jen. Radio used rad micing techniques that were new to us, thereby obtaining an incredible sound from the drums. How lucky we are to have a recording that already sounds awesome, pre-tweaking.

It's so cool to record like this. As a band, what we create comes out of the environment surrounding us, our mood, and cosmic energy. What we do live (and on record) is a product of how we feel in the moment; whether we're stoked or frustrated, connected or disconnected. When we can hear ourselves (and the full range of sonic tonality), we can go to places we haven't been before and hear things that have never before existed in ourselves.

We're grateful for the chance we've been given to express our musical ideas. Hopefully, others can enjoy it as much as we have.

Palo Verde is a heavy, improv, psychedelic-sludge duo formed in Portland, OR in 2006 and comprised of Lauren K. Newman (drums) and Terrica Kleinknecht (guitar). In addition to her solo work under the moniker LKN, Lauren has also drummed for Bellini, Subarachnoid Space, Kaia Wilson & Jenny Hoyston, Avenue of the Strongest, Born Losers and Vanishing Kids. Terrica previously performed in Pom Pom Meltdown, Sarah Dougher, and Party of One.

Palo Verde initially formed as an experimental double-drum duo (Stickitin) but evolved into the current guitar/drums incarnation. They have performed extensively in the Northwest and have embarked on several US tours, sharing the stage with bands such as Jucifer, Thrones, Black Elk, Japanther, and Kusikia. Palo Verde have self-released several albums recorded in their home studio, and have also self-released a full-length album entitled June 2007 (recorded by Radio Sloan at Haunted Mansion Studio). They've recently recorded material (at Audible Alchemy with Christina Files and Dig Recording with Mark Kaeder) which will be released on double-vinyl album in 2010. They are excited to soon be recording at the legendary Type Foundry in Portland, OR, in late 2009, after which they will be embarking on a short U.S. tour.

Palo Verde plan to continue recording and touring, hoping to eventually pair with a record label that shares their vision to release heavy experimental music. They view music as a way to connect with other humans and as a means to see the world. Their goal is to create something that has never been heard before and to inspire each other (and hopefully a few others) in the process.
