Day 1, Sat 23/6

The journey down, was a very pleasant one, with only the exception of the traffic in the centre of Paris – although the traffic was moving (slowly) most of the time, the drivers would not give gaps for you to pull into, rather if you saw a gap, you had to jump into it... that's French drivers for you.

We arrived at Taizé at about 5pm (local time), making the journey about 12 hours in total, including stops. There was a brief introduction we were given, followed by buying a meal card for just Saturday evening / Sunday morning (since they expect most people to arrive & leave on a Sunday).

Once that was sorted we had half an hour to pitch our tents before dinner at 7pm... which we managed, just.

After this, the evening became a little muddled, since we were new, with the talk given in the evening being pretty difficult to follow, being broken up every few seconds to allow the other translations to be read etc.

A very beautiful service of light followed this, with candles being lit towards the end.

All in all, a tiring and sunny day.

Day 2, Sun 24/6

Had a very pleasant shower this morning, being nice and warm with good pressure, although mighty cold when you step out!

The welcome / introduction and signing up to bible study groups / work groups was an entirely confusing task, although once done, it was out of the way.

Made the first friends of the week today – Luke & Tanya from Aberdeen pitched their tents next to ours (since it looked like a good spot, not knowing we spoke English also) and so we introduced ourselves etc. Kate and Steph (?) came over also from nearby having heard an English conversation.

Overnight – joy of joys, torrential rain and strong winds which lead to myself not getting much sleep :(

Day 3, Mon 25/6

Had the fun of discovering only two out of the six showers in the block closest to the tent had working locks, although the other shower block (a stones throw away) had plenty of showers and the water stayed warm again, despite other people we've met complaining of their showers going stone cold at the end!

Had the first work group this morning – oh what fun cleaning toilets is... and having to sing a song about it before starting also :S

There was also the first bible study meeting in the afternoon. Despite the talk with the whole group being not overly interesting, when split up into smaller groups, I found the group I was in pretty good, with all members wanting to participate in the questions given etc.

Day 4, Tues 26/6

Another night of thunderstorms and high winds, lead to more lack of sleep, meaning that the day was not enjoyed as much as it could've been.

Day 5, Wed 27/6

With much better sleep, today was a lot more enjoyable.

Took some group shots of our smaller bible study group, since it was Tony's last day and after that I met up with some of the Keele university group that were there also. Although they seem a little mad, they also are a good laugh – must try and spend some more time with them to get to know them.

After afternoon tea, I went down to the 'source' with Tanya, whilst it wasn't raining! It is very beautiful down there, which kinda needs an afternoon to sit around and enjoy it (well, in the sunshine ideally) rather than an hour.

Day 6, Thurs 28/6

Spent most of the afternoon with the Keele uni lot to try and get to know them a little better. Also had some very interesting discussion with the smaller bible study group. I can't believe there's only one day left...

Day 7, Fri 29/6

A very pleasant and enjoyable day – went to Cluney for lunch and to look around the remains of the abbey, with the Brighton university chaplaincy lot, on a beautiful sunny day (at last!). The smaller bible study group meeting was quite similar to the day before, basically carrying the same topics on, rather than doing what the day's worksheet said...

Day 8, Sat 30/6

Going home day :( Got packed before going to morning prayers / breakfast, with the exception of the tent, which was still damp from the dew. Said my goodbyes to the new friends and gathered some email addresses to hopefully stay in touch.

Got the tent down fairly quickly after breakfast and headed over to the cars.

The journey back was much the same in France, with the exception of Doris, Fr. Colin's GPS getting stuck when he took a wrong turn. So we followed John (Cleese, on my tomtom) after that, which took a slightly different route, cutting off a corner somewhere when getting onto the A16. Got to the ferry with plenty of time and despite being told of about a 10 minute delay, left France pretty much on time.

Now back in England, we were greeted by fog and rain, making a rather hairy journey back, with a detour due to a nasty accident on the M20 although getting home around 11:30, making the journey about 13 hours.

Overall a very much enjoyed week, despite the bad weather for the first half of the week and many new friends made and hopefully kept, with the possibility of seeing them again this time next year.

I'm such a camwhore - had an hour to kill and was in Brighton, sun was setting - I just could resist the standard staring into the distance, west pier behind you with sun set picture :D

Took a few attempts, this one is a bit crooked, but in reasonable focus (well, I am, pier is slightly out)

Brilliant sunset though!

As the title suggests, my mood is a lot better today than yesterday evening :D

Despite being stood up for a meeting with my design group today, I had fun shopping instead today (shock horror! a bloke enjoying shopping?).
I actualy bought some CDs today as well, one I'm a lot more pleased with than I thought I'd be and the other being kinda opposite.

CD #1: Bloc Party - A weekend in the city (Limited 2 Disc Edition, w/ bonus DVD)
Track 4 (Prayer) will be that track I'm sure you will all recognise, if not the name of the track ;). I wouldn't say the album was terrible but IMHO not really worthy of #1 in the HMV album chart. However, it may just be that I am not in the mood for this type of rock at the moment.

CD #2: Mika - Life in cartoon motion
I havn't actually listened to this CD all the way through but really enjoyed the first few tracks on the album - sounded quite epic with the sub in my car on the way home ^_^ Full on bass in the middle of Brighton FTW!

In other news, I got the data comms report handed in and out of the way and still need to book the car in to get the display fixed but I have two free days that I can use - there must be a free slot.

Having logged into myspace from uni today, I couldn't help but notice the flood of Mac. vs. PC. adverts plastered all over the place here.

Is it just me, or are they all a load of bullshit!

Apart from the point about spyware and viruses (although that only applies to MS windows), you could interchange Mac. and PC. for all their points.

As I see it, PC. beats Mac. due to the availability of parts and being designed to be upgraded / repaired easily, whereas you have to pay apple technicians a bomb to repair a Mac. or buy a whole new machine for any upgrades!

One more thing, since the new Macs. are running on intel chips, they practically are PCs. - its been proven both ways now - OSX running on a 'PC.' and windows XP on a 'Mac.' (don't even mention linux / *nix - OSX is just freeBSD with knobs on!)

Macs. more exciting? Erm... I don't think most of the new games that come out for the PC. have Mac. versions (except ID software - thats ported to everything!)

Might as well blog about my shiney new camera, as well as be pleased with myself =D

First of all... OMG the resolution! Check out my shiney tuppance!

Second, its amazing in low light & has far too many options that can be set, but seeing as I'm no pro, I'll be leaving it on auto most of the time - it seems to give damn good results.

Third, I really appriciate the auto-focusing (AF) - beeping twice when its locked onto the target (when not set on infinity) and displating !AF when it cannot pick out the target

...Its just such an improvement on my last 2MP digi-cam.

And only this afternoon, I was thinking-  hmm, I can't read the writing on this IC... don't have a magnifying glass... ah digital camera. And it didn't let me down! Here is the IC in question it is on my hand to show how small the chip is.

I must say the five's gadget show do not lie when the review gadgets - despite the fact they were reviewing the F31fd, which is basically the camera I got, the F30, with face recognition added in the auto-focus algorithm. Because of the new model being out is probably why I got the camera for £161 from the original RRP of £280.

Oh and I forgot to mention how light the Li-ion battery and the battery life!

/me is pleased!

P.S. has myspace fixed the blasted problem yet with errors appearing when a blog is posted?
[edit]Yes! and about time too, i've been trying since 4pm GMT! (lol how sad am I?)

The christmas season is coming to an end now - taking all the decorations down at home, used up most of the xmas food and eaten most of the choccies I was given.

All over until next year.

On a completely different note, I managed to get my car nicely splattered in mud after a drive in the countryside the other day, but really cba to wash it as the weather is so cloudy and cold. And why is there still a hosepipe ban?!

Current mood:  happy
I probably ought to start off by saying how I wasted around an hour seeing if my components had arrived at the stores (at uni), only to find nothing wirtten on the board. Oh well, I thought it would be a bit optomistic for them to arrive that quickly - I'll just have to get the other work that needs to be done next week!

And on to the first topic of the blog: I've just finished cleaning the car and it looks all shiney now. Since its so f***ing cold out there, I couldn't be bothered to wait for it to dry so it'll have to do without being waxed today.

And the second part: Christmas is only a few days away - still havn't wrapped any presents - I'll get that out of the way this evening hopefully. I was also pleased to find at work yesterday that there will be plenty of staff in on Sunday (xmas eve) with 5, yes FIVE staff in from opening at 7 (gah an hour early!).

As usual, I've managed to avoid doing any work for uni at all this week... well, I made a list of things that need doing but that doesn't really count :)

Still spending far too much time playing on gtamp, although it is nice to see a good number of people in the server and some good racing being had.

Current mood:  pleased
Well, I'm feeling a lot better (compared to my last post!) at the moment -

- I've just come back from Brighton, having finished all the christmas shopping and had quite an enjoyable shift at the co-op this morning.
The atmosphere at that place can change so quickly depending on who's in charge, who's working and the time of day.
Off climbing at Shoreham this evening with my bro and a few others from explorer / network scouts although we are strictly meeting as non scouts as none of us have an SPA .

I hate being ill

After just making it through the day yesterday at work & then the mass up at the uni chaplaincy, I did at least get a good night's sleep.
Woke up this morning feeling quite a lot better... still a little headachey but not nearly as half asleep and drained as yesterday.
But come this evening, yet again I have the same lingering headache and now a stiff neck.

Just my luck for the first day of my xmas holidays!

At least I got my parts ordered for my final year project this morning - thats one big task I've needed to get done, ohhh at least a month ago really!.

And fun fun fun - I need to be up for a 9-1 shift at the lovely co-op tomorrow and I bet it'll be b-u-s-y with all the extra xmas custom
[16 Dec 2006 | Saturday]
Well, I guess it was only a matter of time before I could resist getting a myspace account. Now, how many people can I find to add to my friends list! (And how many emails will I get with friend requests?!)

You never know, I might start a proper blog one day - I think I have 4 or 5 places I can write a blog in now!
