Beginning next month, I'm programming - on behalf of ShockTillYouDrop.com - the monthly "Midnight Shock" movie series at the New Beverly Cinema with the mighty Phil Blankenship. More details are coming, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek at the first two films we're screening! You'll find the details: RIGHT HERE

The word is out and I can finally talk about this. "The Hollywood Reporter" broke the news tonight that I'm co-producing Patrick Tatopoulos' new film, I, Frankenstein, with the awesome fellas at Death Ray, Robert Sanchez and Chris Patton. This is a huge step for me and I think it's the right one. This project is fuckin' awesome and a chance to play around with the famous monsters my father raised me on. Tatopoulos is, without a doubt, a guy whose work I've always admired from the winged beasts in Pitch Black to his work in the Underworld films. And through my job as a journalist, we've gotten to be friends over our various chats about the films he's been involved with. Kevin Grevioux has created such an unbelievably awesome world where the Frankenstein monster is a private detective takin' down the bad guys (in this case, other monsters you'll recognize).
2009 is going to be an interesting year of change for me. I'll still be performing my duties at ShockTillYouDrop.com. I've just always been one to take on more than one project at a time. I, Frankenstein muscled its way in and demanded my attention. Casting ideas
More to come, fiends... Check out some concept art HERE.
'I, Frankenstein' comic headed to big screenDeath Ray teams with Patrick Tatopoulos, Kevin GreviouxBy Borys Kit
April 15, 2009, 11:00 PM ET Director Patrick Tatopoulos, "Underworld" co-creator Kevin Grevioux and Death Ray Films are teaming up to bring the comic book "I, Frankenstein" to the big screen.
"I, Frankenstein" is an upcoming Darkstorm Comic written by Grevioux that brings together classic monster characters, including Frankenstein's Monster, the Invisible Man, Dracula and the Hunchback of Notre Dame, in a contemporary film noir setting.
The Monster, for example, has evolved, learned how to control his anger and now acts as a private investigator. Dracula, meanwhile, is a kingpin of crime, and the Invisible Man is a secret operative.
Grevioux will pen the adaptation and act as a producer. Tatopoulos, a longtime creature designer for such films as "I Am Legend" and "Godzilla" who made his directorial debut with "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans," will helm.
Robert Sanchez and Chris Patton will produce via Death Ray. Ryan Turek of horror Web site ShockTilYouDrop.com is co-developing for Death Ray.
The company has an independent financing fund for its slate, which also includes the horror comedy "War Monkeys," in preproduction, and "El Zombo," an adaptation of a Dark Horse comic.
"It's a Raymond Chandler-esque monster mash where the rogues don't pack pistols, they've got claws and fangs," Turek said.
Death Ray hopes to launch a franchise with the property.
Tatopoulos is repped by ICM and Grevioux by WMA.

Funny you should ask. I was asked to be part of a film. Which film? What the fuck did I do? Well, I'd detail it here, but it's sort of a "work thing" so I posted it over at ShockTillYouDrop.com. Just click here, it isn't going to hurt ya. I think it will thrill you. It may even shock you. It might even horrify you.
Enjoy.

God-DAMN what a week! The running around has settled down some, but now I'm looking at a stack of interviews I need to write.
Last weekend really kicked things off when I spent the day at the Four Seasons talking with the cast and crew of the new Friday the 13th (positive review comin' soon, I promise). The subsequent days became a blur: There was a His Name Was Jason signing featuring 40 guests or so guests (photo gallery), then a string interviews for other films to tend to. I broke free Wednesday night for drinks then it was back to perhaps one of the busiest weeks for news - which is a blessing and a curse. I thrive on news. Feed off the buzz of getting a scoop. But I've got pals (Rob G. and Mike from IconsofFright.com) in town and I'd love to spend some more time with them.
Right now I'm getting my head on straight for tomorrow morning...
Beginning at 11am Pacific, I'm conducting an hour-long interview with Underworld: Rise of the Lycans director Patrick Tatopoulos and actor/creator Kevin Grevioux at Premiere Props before this huge Underworld-related auction begins. The whole thing is streaming LIVE so if you'd like to tune in head on over to this spot for more details. An hour is quite a length of time to talk Underworld, but we'll be padding it with some clips, trailers and other goodies.
I'll do my best to make the conversation interesting. Hope you dig it (if you opt to get your ass out of bed on a Saturday morning to watch it). On Sunday (the 8th), I've been asked to call in as a guest to participate in HorrorMovieFans.com's radio show which begins at 10pm Eastern. Back to work for me. I've got the Friday the 13th premiere coming up on Monday and it looks like I'll be reuniting with a master of horror for a cool event this month. I'll spill the beans soon.
Go watch a horror film - keep America strong!

...but not nearly enough time to jot it all down. In spite of the sour start to 2009, as recounted in the last blog (not one of my best), it's been busy as hell: From the Underworld premiere to seeing/covering Friday the 13th. I've got deadlines to meet, so I'll drop back in here soon with a proper write-up. In the meantime, keep track of what's goin' on in the horror world with my coverage at ShockTillYouDrop.com.

(Edit: Okay, this is the second time I've tried to edit this piece, but MySpace won't take it.)
Odd numbered years are proving to be the worst for me. 2005? Started off terrible, but it quickly became the best summer of my life. Still, rough - and I mean fuckin' rough - start. 2007? Stolen car. Collapsed lung. End of a relationship. All in slow succession. Now I'm sixteen days into 2009 - currently watching A Clockwork Orange in HD - and I want to punch this year in the throat as a warning to not start any shenanigans 'cause this week was an exhausting one. And go figure, it had to do with my car.Let's take a look back at last Wednesday the 7th. One of those delicate scheduling days where you had to be focused. I had one event going on and two screenings. The bad news began with my drive down to Venice where I was interviewing Patrick Tatopoulos about the new Underworld film. Venice. A bit of a drive from the Valley. So when a jack-ass such as myself learns that he's forgotten his wallet when he reaches his destination, there's no "quick" run back to the house to go get it. That's fine, I think, I'll just pick it up afterwards then head to screening numero uno. The interview goes fine, I see some great footage and hop on the 405 freeway during rush hour (since studios have a knack for scheduling events so you're leaving them at the rush hour mark) to head back home. I dismiss the screening as there was no way I was going to make it with the traffic - that's fine, I'll catch up to the flick later. But I want to make sure I can get to My Bloody Valentine 3D later that night.Just as I'm creeping up the hill approaching Mulholland, while in the fast lane mind you, my car starts to slow down. I press the gas pedal harder. Nothing. Instantly, I know something's up, so I hit the signal - to start heading right towards the shoulder - and the hazard lights. I make it to the next lane over and the car just stops. Here I am on one of the busiest, most congested, freeways in Los Angeles and I'm going to be held responsible for making the traffic worse. Cars are trying to get around me. Commuters are pissed. I'm on the phone trying to get a hold of a tow truck. About ten minutes pass when a mini-tow truck pulls in front me out of nowhere. And in a very surreal moment, I get out of my car, standing in the middle of the busy 405, and greet the driver. He tells me to hop in the cab and that he's going to rescue my ass. So I do and he does, hauling my POS car to the park 'n ride lot on Mulholland. This tow, I learn, is a freebie - a service provided by the city for broken down motorists to keep the freeways safe. Naturally, I'm grateful. But I've got more stress ahead because here I was with a fucked car and no wallet.I call Spooky Dan and thanks to his help I finally get a tow truck to get my car back to my dealership. This was, oh, about two hours after I was initially dropped off just to give you a time frame. Dan stuck around for a bit but I insisted he waste no more of his time. Thankfully, I had my computer and did a few site updates while I waited. The driver who towed me into the Valley, and not far from my house, told me some great stories about towing Brendan Fraser (who apparently didn't want anyone to know his name because it "wasn't a big deal"), meeting some dude from The Fast and the Furious (who's apparently sleeping with Natalie Martinez from Death Race) and impounding a rapper's car. I rewarded him for his time and tales with the Underworld cap I had been given by Tatopoulos because I felt bad I didn't have any cash tip - this in spite of the fact that he charged me for three measly miles not covered by my insurance carrier.Cut to Saturday/Sunday. I'm now driving from a screening of Adam Gierasch's Autopsy at the Beverly Center when my engine light goes on. Brilliant. I hustle the car home, miss my interview with an actress the following morning and get the car to the shop on Monday. It doesn't take long before they tell me the catalytic converter is shot. I've been down this road before. This part isn't cheap. Needless to say, I dropped some more bread on the car and continue on through the week...until I was slapped in the face with something which still has really had me in low spirits. Yet strangely keeps in line with the whole "odd numbered year" sorta thing.Okay, enough with the Debbie Downer schtick. One upside from the last few days? Lionsgate called me up to see if I'd be interested in moderating the Q&A following the sneak preview screening of My Bloody Valentine 3D on Thursday night. I dug the movie a lot, I got along with the director (Patrick Lussier) and writer (Todd Farmer)...so I agreed to do it. As I'm wont to do, I show up earlier than I need to. I join pals Nicole and Shannon for drinks down the street, and then meet Rob Hall and his crew elsewhere. About a half hour before show time, I find Lussier and Farmer hanging out in the Hollywood Arclight lobby where the director tells me I was spot-on in my review when I called him out for ripping off a scene from The Exorcist III (which I have a hankering to watch as I write this but know the DVD is not anamorphic and looks like shit compared to the Blu-Ray snobbery I'm accustomed to now). The lobby around us is being filled with folks I can just tell are there for the film - the place looks like a Fangoria convention just wrapped down the street, so I feel at ease and less nervous than I did when I arrived solo (thanks to my on-site rep for offering me an "Aw..." when I tell her I just need one ticket). The screening goes great. The crowd digs the 3-D. A Jensen Ackles fan in the crowd purred loudly every time he showed up on screen (I'm sure the ushers dug in deep with the fabric cleaner to remove the wet spot from her seat afterward). And a good chunk of the audience stuck around for the Q&A which went smooth (see pics below). The whole affair - including the coffee I had that had me all twitch - lifted my spirits. Random aside... Sorry, got sidetracked for a good twenty minutes looking through photos from the early '90s that this gal I went to school with posted on Facebook. Fuckin' crazy. There's one pic of this girl I had a crush on and made out with after we saw Spaced Invaders in someone's basement. Because Spaced Invaders apparently turned us on, or something. I get so fascinated looking through this old shit and comparing the photos then to the profile pictures of old pals now. The only difference is that they're surrounded by their brood. I've been noticing a lot of faces from high school are popping up on these social networking sites. Reaching out. Reconnecting. Leaving random messages. Random photos from the past. Rumblings that will lead to the big reunion later this year. Apparently the classmates appointed to getting our ten year reunion dropped the ball. Bastards. Thanks to one dude, we're doing a fifteen.Okay - back to the blog at hand. Whine, whine, bitch, bitch...this year better get its ass in gear. I just found out that two weeks from today I'm going to see one of my most anticipated films of February (hint, it has to do with an angry mama's boy) and the weekend ahead promises some fun. I'm joining the group for MBV3D (again) then it's off to a midnight screening of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark...with Elvira in attendance.Speaking of old photos, check this shit out...

Tomorrow (Thursday) night I'm heading to the Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood to moderate a post-screening Q&A of My Bloody Valentine 3D with director Patrick Lussier and co-writer Todd Farmer. Purchase tix here - you want the 10pm show. I'll probably be around before then at the bar downstairs partaking in some liquid courage. Hope you see some of you there!

Jus when I thought the playful ribbing was over, Heidi Martinuzzi and her saucy site Pretty-Scary.net had to go and launch a Scary Stud of the Year poll.
If you're not familiar with this...every month PS.net interviews dudes in the horror biz and asks them to accompany a few photos with the answers. After, oh, I'd say two years of so of procrastinating and seeing Adam Green take one for the team wearing nothing but a leather jacket, I finally did it. I was the site's October spotlight. Micheline and I ventured off to Griffith Park with a prop from Hatchet (thanks, Adam), a shitload of fake blood, a pair of jeans and a wife-beater (at M's request). We snapped off a few pics, scared a few locals and covered the interior of my car in red gunk. Later, I accidently deleted 97% of the pics and salvaged the remaining few for Heidi's interview.
Here we are now, two months later, and I'm apparently in the running with the rest of the fellas from 2008 for "Scary Stud of the Year." And now that I see most of the guys have voted for themselves at least once, it's time to make this poll truly count. So, if you want to vote for me - do it here. If not, 'tis cool. I'll only feel like the kid at gym who was the last one chosen for the dodgeball team.
