The Gregg Allman Band was the house band for last Saturdays Michael J Fox Parkinsons Benefit Concert at the Waldorf Astoria. Scott and the band got to back up Elvis Costello, Steven Tyler, and John Popper (the crowd was also filled with celebrities). Check out some of the pix in the gallery or at this link:

A great review of "Ante Up" by Rootstime, their official site can be found here:

http://www.rootstime.be/

Heres the review in full:

"Scott Sharrard, guitarist for Gregg Allman's band is not only that, he is also an excellent songwriter and singer, in a genre that a little out of the expectations is not southern rock, but more soul, a lot of soul .. and blues. Scott is a blue-eyed soul singer with style and a voice full of feeling. That proven right away with the opening song of this CD "Put Your Records On Soul", a song that hails the days of Motown and Atlantic. Sometimes recalling Lenny Kravitz, Sharrard combines his strong soulful voice with delicious guitar with a strong bluesy slant, but the songs often have a more funky sound. In "8 Days On The Road" a song by Jerry Ragavoy, lets us hear a sound reminiscent of slide guitarist Derek Trucks, reminding us that Sharrard is now a part of the Allman Brothers clan. Lovely song! Recorded all live in the Ante Up studios in Cleveland Ohio that it was recorded in just 2 days with only bassist Jeff Hanley and drummer Diego Voglino is more surprising, because everything sounds perfect and complete. Some score contributions such as some blazing Hammond-3 (by Brian Charette) and horns (by fellow Allmans band saxophonist Jay Collins)were added a month later and recorded at studios in NYC and Brooklyn. "Losing Faith In You" a lesser-known BB King cover is beautiful, again with stunning guitar work by Scott. Stevie Wonder's "All Day Sucker" from his "Song In The Key Of Live" sounds like Stevie song itself while it also implies that other Texan, Stevie Ray Vaughn on guitar as backing. Time for another original composition: "Stone" which is clearly a Hendrix tribute, a song in the style of "Machine Gun" from "Band Of Gypsies" CD, complete with rattling drum passages à la Buddy Miles. Back to the soul sound with "In The Right Place", which features beautiful soul vocals by Scott, underlined with strong bluesy guitar solos. "It Makes No Difference" by The Band is a very soulful "Memphis" style version. Scott Sharrard is so strong in so many styles that he is,as some music critics say, above all genre labels and is just plain music! And very good in this case." (RON)

Gregg Allman Confirms Winter Tour

Posted on 10/27/2008

Gregg Allman is heading back out on the road for his first solo dates of the year. Having just wrapped up two legs of dates with the Allman Brothers Band, the iconic singer, songwriter, keyboardist and guitarist has confirmed a run of dates beginning December 27 in Westbury, NY followed by 10 shows in the northeast U.S.

Allman was forced to cancel shows with the ABB at their annual New York City Beacon Theatre residency earlier this year due to the side effects of treatment he was receiving for Hepatitis C. With the disease suppressed thanks to 24 weeks of interferon treatment, the group returned to the road for two legs of dates, including last week's (10/13) "Change Rocks" concert on behalf of Senator Barack Obama held in State College, PA.

"I feel great," says Gregg. "We did about 20 shows this summer and we were really hitting it." Asked about his active touring schedule, Gregg recently told the Pensacola (FL) News Journal, "It's a hell of a lot more rewarding than [doing] crosswords." Joining Gregg on the tour will be BRUCE KATZ (keyboard), JERRY JEMMOTT (bass),STEVE POTTS (drums), SCOTT SHARRARD (guitar), JAY COLLINS (sax) and FLOYD MILES (percussion).

In live reviews of the Allman Brothers Band's 8/16 Mansfield, MA concert, Boston.com writer Steve Morse hailed the band, saying "[Gregg] Allman's perennial, blues-soaked voice was in fine form on a lengthy, twisting 'Desdemona'...The Allmans headlined the nearly sold-out show with a typically potent set keyed by a piercing jam on 'In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' (guitarist Derek Trucks took it for an interstellar ride) and thrilled listeners with a subtly powerful treatment of Van Morrison's 'Into the Mystic.'" Boston Herald writer Tom Kielty said, "The headlining set from the Allman Brothers Band was astounding for both its muscularity and pace."
