Band Interview: Worn
Live N Local gets a little too close to Worn in a cosy interview about Mummy-loving, big Sunday buckets, Will Young and emo-acoustic fusions...
Read on, you will be none the wiser!
Describe the Worn sound
Pidge (guitar and vocals) - oh, the sound has changed a lot over the past couple of years but we've been described as a grunge/punk twist, I guess that's grunk then?
Graham (drums) - yeah, its kind of, dum, diddy, dum, dum, dum.
Aaron (lead guitar) - That's ridiculous!
Mike (bass) - I'd say we're grunge punk emo acoustic fusion. Aaron - no, grunk is more accurate I think.
What would a typical Worn fan look like?
Pidge - I'm not entirely sure, have you seen any?!
Graham - Well my mum usually wears pastels.
Mike - Well because we have so many influences people of all musical backgrounds tend to enjoy us in some small way.
Do you tour around the UK playing gigs and festivals?
Mike - As often as possible
Pidge - We're going to be touring through easter next year which is currently being booked. We actually finish on April 15th with a date at Norwich Waterfront which we're excited about already. To be honest our new
'3 day life' e-p. (which is available mid December)(shameless plug!) is going to to open a few more doors for us on the festival front.
Aaron - there always room for a cheeky little plug! We are aiming towards more festivals this summer though, they're soo much fun, you can't beat a decent festival atmosphere.
Best thing about being in a band. Put these in order....
Music, free drinks when you play a pub, women, fame, fans, money.
Graham - Sorry, which pub is this?
Mike - Since we don't earn any money, we don't get free drinks, we aren't famous and I already have a girl friend, I would have to say its for the music and the fans.
Pidge - its all about the women...nah not really, I just enjoy playing music and people enjoying it. It makes me happy inside!
Aaron - I just enjoy making the music more than anything, and to be fair the money we get only pays for strings.
Graham - (coughs) which pub?
Which is the best band in the world?
Aaron - Us!
Pidge - yeah, we are
Aaron - its our little secret though, so please keep it hush hush!
Mike - I think Alexisonfire slightly edge it Pidge - really?? I'm going to have to go with Biffy Clyro Graham - AC/DC definitely
How Rock n Roll are you as a band? The scale is Will Young up to Axl Rose...
Pidge - I come in at a James Blunt...that's just after good old Wil...is that a 2 then?
Mike - Is Axl the most rock on the scale?
(Don't dispute Axl's ability to rock, you will seriously upset the interviewer!!)
Pidge - errr....ok... Aaron's definitely the most rock n roll, he's our little hard rocking mummy lover.
Graham - lol. I'd give us a 4, um, that'd round about Meatloaf.
Tell us about the best gig you ever played.
Pidge - T'was a cold November eve...the 25th of November last year, we opened for My Awesome Compilation, Brgade and Zico Chain at the Ferryboat (rip) and the place was rammed, was a brilliant atmosphere, I loved it!
Mike - My favourite was when we played with Keiko, also in the Ferryboat.
Aaron - Headlining the Waterfront in September, that was pretty sweet, we had our own dressing room, plus it was my first gig with the band so what better way to start.
Graham - pretending to be famous is fun!
I've been listening to some tracks from your EP 'State Of It' all. Do you write all your own songs?
Graham - yes
Pidge - We all put bits in, I do a lot of the writing but when we put it all together is a group thing. I'll come to practice with a basic song, we'll work out a structure together then Graham puts drums to it all.
Graham - I'd prefer it if you used the term "enhances with rhythm"
Mike - lol, yes, Graham enhances the songs with rhythm!
Where do you get your influences from?
Graham - From the music we pay to download (coughs). Aaron - To be honest, everything.
Pidge - Yeah, I agree, pretty much everything, the lyrics I write vary from what's happened to me at work that day to something I found funny years ago.
Mike - ...and from Radio Broadland of course
Lovin' your style Mike!
Which other local bands do you think are good?
Pidge - ahh, soo many awesome bands in the area, Arch Stanton, If fire would fall Mike - Deaf Havana.
Graham - um, 32framespersecond.
Pidge - Jet Jockey Aaron - In earth we are dull! (Aarons second band).
Pidge - that doesn't count!
Aaron - ok, Deaf Havana again then
If you could support any band on tour who would it be?
Pidge - defiantly the Foo Fighters or Biffy Clyro
Mike - yeah, the Foo Fighters would be great.
Pidge - Audioslave? Maybe just go all the way and say Rage Against the Machine!
Graham - ummmm, the Corrs, they've got to get drunk and careless at some point!
Oh Graham your mum would be so proud!
Last word is all yours. Give me some 'Worn' advice that will help me make it through life...
Aaron - Fried chicken makes everything better.
Mike - its kind of a band tradition to eat a lot of chicken during practices at Plug Studios, to be honest, its what keeps us going!
Graham - Yeah, we wouldn't be here without our Sunday family bucket.
Pidge - Too true. lol, apart from that, just enjoy yourself, simple as.
