Wotcha folks,

Yep, The Hospital of Death is back as a full unit again and we thank you for your patients, bah bum pissshhh! Firstly, big thanks to the Warrington crowd for making our homecoming gig such a special night. We had Seregon from Bristol and Heretic from Derby top off a jolly old thrash bash, drank until 5am, put the clocks back then drank until 5am again.

Just an update as to where we are at, HOD are now out of debt. YES! Surge Kill Steal has done better than we had ever expected and the funding we had to record it has now been paid off. So, in the short-term future we may have some merch sales to take on casual staff. Here's where we need your help…..

You know we're a DIY band but things are getting too big for us to handle alone while still being able to write hard rockin' songs at the same time. We're looking for willing and casual staff that can help us out with keeping things going for us, keeping the band fun and not like a business. If you can do any of the following please send us a mail and we can talk shop…..

Artwork for our Myspace / Albums / Merch

Van Driver - SORTED (Nice one Mr'B)
Models for T-shirts - SORTED (Cheers dead sexy dolls)
Help with gig bookings
Merch sales - SORTED (Thanks Mr'Tashe)
Flyer distribution
Help with adding our songs to Spotify
Ideas for new merch
Animated music video creation for Youtube

Current mood:  shocked
We are sorry to inform you that one of our band members has had to take a months leave to deal with immediate family matters beyond his control. HOD will be carrying on as normal without him and will be back on form for the Oct 24th for the Warrington homecoming gig. Hope to see you folks there, it promises to be a mental one.

Stay crispy.

The cliche is true, nothing in this life is free. This album is dedicated to the brill people we've met on the way who have helped support the cause, made this happen and got drunk with us along the way.

Retail CD's are available via Amazon, HMV or directly from the merch store for £6 or £2 -

Just been played on Bruce Dickinsons radio 6 show last night....and Warrington have just won the cup!

Now my friends, we party down.

August 26, 2009 - Wednesday
FAO – Grim Reaper, twice this year we've got giddy, the gods have spoken & we haven't played with you, it needs to happen! We celebrated the sales of SKS with some elastic bands and bubble wrap, classy.

Anyway, Volume 3 – Polishing off the album quite nicely! The 'more melodic' section of the record....

NIGHTBEAST
Written about – A leftover barbeque that comes to life and eats people for a change, some say it's pro-vegetarian, some say it's plain old stupid.
Influenced by – Megadeth is blatantly in there so lets not pretend eh?!
During the Demos – As I was waffling about on blog 2, this song was originally the king of Sweden but it was too 'wordy', meanwhile I was on the UK THRASH forums and spoke to an old-schooler called Mort, he wrote a song like this when he was a kid and was laughing about how puerile it was. I replied to say “What are you talking about? Thats amazing!” Then 'took' his lyrics and turned it into this. See, two albums in and we're getting outside writers.
HOD Trivia – the picture of the original nightbeast on the inlay was from a barbeque in 2002 when the lads came over after I had an operation to wish me well but I was too sick to eat the food. Feemo 1 – benign growth on neck 0. WIN!

TWO GLASS EYES
Written about – Going to foreign festivals and acting like typical drunken British idiots you see on BBC3, only more metal.
Influenced by - 24 warm beers, no knowledge of foreign languages, no suncream and some spirits hidden in a pop bottle.
During the Demos – This was the last song for the album and was the only one we've never had 100% ready, Stes macintosh kept failing us and Dave was having a camera (with attached laser) up his willy, hence the moniker 'Laserdick Dave'. The verse vocal line is very similar to the opening solo on maidens 'The Clairvoyant' which still makes me laugh....lulz.
HOD Trivia – The lyric 'sailed to the east for the maidens and priests' was written after coming home from gods of metal 08 (Italy) where maiden played Saturday and Priest played Sunday. It was a fantastic weekend, must remember to get some speedos for next time!

MOLE IN THE OCEAN
Written about – A phonecall off Ste saying 'Why the fuck haven't we wrote a song about why we love metal so much?' BAM! DONE.
Influenced by – Us and many many others know the feeling of having to drive for hours on end to stand in a queue to see their favourite touring band. The smell of weed in the air (RIP), the adrenaline you get as they walk on stage... I guess it'd be the musical equivalent of your first footy game, I never been one though. I used to watch Runcorn FC from up a tree on the bypass! A nice cheesefest for an album closer.
HOD Trivia – The title of this song is dedicated to our Brother in metal Mikey P, who helped us record this album at bloodstained studios. He joined Germany's 'The Ocean Collective' for two years and has seen the carparks of the world and partied with the best of them. It was always great to know that while we were doing mudane crap at work he was living the dream he always wanted to do.... The jammy fucker! ;)

SECOND OPINION
Written about – Is a nice closing theme to bookmark both albums with a medical cover version. This one is the theme from Quincey ME. We can't think of anymore (flying doctors was crap) so we'll try a different angle next time.
During the Demos – Was written in December 2006 so god knows!
HOD Trivia – This song and 'Enter the HOD' (Casualty on BBB) were the first HOD songs ever written, we had them on our site as free downloads for six months but long story short, no-one gave a shit! We thought it'd be best to write a 'real' song each so Stu wrote 'Kicked to the kerb' and Ste wrote 'I am a Tiger' and that was that, HOD then had 4 songs with no singer! Wooooow.

I've got a few nice things (pictures, lyrics & notes) to post over the next few weeks so stay tuned.

I’m sat here with a bottle of water, drying out after bloodstock as I don’t know the difference to being tired, hungover, or sober anymore. It’s getting bloody stupid. Thanks to the whopping amount of people that got drunk/high with us, talked metal trivia and partied for waaay longer than we should have done. We bloody love yerz!

Anyway, I know what you’re here for….Volume 2. Songs 5-8

HELMS DEEP
Written about – Lord of the rings’ riders of Rohan and the epic battle for Helms deep in the second two towers outing. The film had to be watched at least twice that day for….erm…research purposes. Not to lounge about and eat crisps a lot, no siree Bob.
Influenced by – In the pre-HOD days, Ste and Stu were in a two man power-metal bedroom band called ‘Strength & Honour’, dedicating riffs to the life and time of the Roman empire but never found a singer that could go high pitched enough to carry on. As 90% of the stuff will never see light of day, Stu bounced some riffs out of a couple of S&H songs for this, hence it sounding different and more ‘European’ sounding than normal!

STAIRWAY TO HELL
Written about – The moral dilemma of having to smash your wifes head in with a spade as she’s just been bitten by a zombie and will undoubtedly turn into ‘one of them’.
During the demos – This song was ‘the 13th’ song from the first album ‘Beer Bitches Blood’ but including it violated the pre-set rules we had from day one of the band - ‘No album shall go beyond 45 minutes’ so we shelved it for creatively titled ‘album two’. This song raised an A&R eyebrow or two as it had an acoustic guitar in and a riff with a death metal drumbeat.
This was originally penned about how upset we were with the public perception of Metallica nowadays on the eve of Death Magnetic being released, however, the new album blew my mind and I was reading the walking dead comics at the time so this felt right.
HOD Trivia – As this song was being written during the birth of my son (one year old next week, wooo!) I took the mrs to the maternity ward. The nice ladies there tried to bond with my AC/DC shirt and told me their favourite song  was Stairway to hell, mixing the titles up with Zeppelin. As opposed to being a rock snob or laughing at the folks, I said ‘yeah, me too’ & made a song with that name instead in gratitude to them.

STORMBRINGERS
Written about – Piece of piss, it’s about big trouble in little china!
During the demos – This was originally two songs, one (middle part) was called ‘the Grotter’ about our good friend & artist…erm…. whooo…shall we say….Touched a girl at a party then told us to sniff his triumphant fingers! Some folks have a copy of this song in demo format but it’s not album worthy. The other was clinically called HOD4 and was known for it’s brill verse and chorus but the middle bit was like an In Flamesy acousticy nicey bit, we don’t do ‘nice’ so we spliced the two songs together.
HOD Trivia – Reverand Dave and his brother Paul had their photo taken with Lo Pan and politely asked him to say ‘She has green eyes’ at a comic convention. Indeed!

THE KING OF SWEDEN
Written about – Praising the almighty Yngwie Malmsteen and living in the hope he may hear this song one day of us giving him kudos for his magnificence.
Influenced by – During one of the solos Stu used his Dean ‘Dimeslime’ guitar to make a personal solo in his honour in thanks, putting the RIP into ripping solo! Would have been his birthday today the poor bugger.
During the demos – The lyrics for this song were demo’d and written for nightbeast, we recorded the vocals which sounded hurried and like a generic thrash vocal, to be honest, it didn’t meet Dave’s style of singing. I took a deep breath and mailed Stu to say ‘listen fella, you’re going to have to either change the lyrics or do a new song to match the vocal’ he replied to say ‘Don’t worry, I’m doing a song now that is worthy of his honour, but I’ll warn you….I’m one minute into it and it’s ALL SOLO!’
I didn’t think we could up the ante of epic’ness but by god, fair play Stu lad. This was the last song wrote for the album so expect new stuff to be more like this I’m reckoning.

Things have developed nicely for the free downloads, expect an announcement on this blog in September. Meanwhile I’ll keep you posted of stuff via twitter.

GRIM REAPER THIS SUNDAY!

Yay! Thanks for all your support this far and to those mailing us after a download, expect it now as early as September. New reviews are coming in and looking very favourable, just waiting for some to get published before we can show you the goods. Some folks are not too sure what the hell the songs are about so like the last album, for the next 3 weeks I’ll be doing a blog telling you just that and how they came to be.

Right then….Volume 1. Songs 1-4

ENTER TITANUS

Written about – A Giant Robot destroying all mankind with no hope of survival
Influenced by – Listening to Judas Priests’ Nostradamus and erm…. Well…. Was hoping we could have a little of the older stuff that we grew up with to be polite about it, instead of 2CD’s of strange waffle. We tried to make a modern thrash song in the style of the metal gods and the tour with Testament to cheer us up.
During the demos – I spent ages wracking my brains thinking of a colossal world-destroying robot name. ‘Titanus’ was supposed to be the name of a giant fear provoking robot (after watching the Duff beer calendar competition with the large chested lady called ‘titana’). I mailed the (what I thought was serious) lyrics to the lads and got replies back with ‘ha ha Tight anus!’ or ‘your robot is well gay’ which got drastically overlooked on my part. After fighting my corner (badly), you hear before you today 8 grown men in a small room singing about tight anus’s. Eeeewwwww.

LETS GO APESHIT

Written about – Going to Manchester on the train and getting too shitfaced be able to get home, being fully aware that you are going to suffer in the morning (by girlfriend / the shakes etc) but only caring about where the next pint is coming from right now.
Influenced by – See above.
During the demos – The lyrics were in the same style as Megadeths ‘wake up dead’ about sneaking in after midnight but instead of ‘Diana’ the other woman was ‘beer’. This got changed after a very memorable(?) night, watching SUPERgroup Down in top form at Manchester academy. My pregnant mrs had to carry me to a taxi as I was so drunk but I refused to go home. Not big or clever but it spawned a nice song so I was forgiven(ish).
HOD Trivia – The end riff needed ‘something’ to end the epic nature of the song & Paul (Nog/Anaal Nathrakh) volunteered to do a solo. He made it so epic it could only ever merit an explosion on the end of it…. so that’s what we did.

THE IRON MATRON

Written about – A freaky Nurse who would like to kill a lot of people
Influenced by – Having our music played by Bruce Dickinson in April 08, we were so nervous and proud combined, some of us were close to vomiting so a song title was born to say thanks in our own little way. At one stage every song name was going to be a maiden title, with a 11 minute sea shanty called ‘rhyme of the ancient mariners pie’ about the life and times of captain birdseye. That may still happen one day.
During the demos – Pretty straight forward this one, this was the first song we demo’d for the album so we asked Dave to write some lyrics and he banged them together in no time. He’d have done more but he enjoys his PS3 and massive TV so much it’s cruel to pull him away as he’s starts to get angry, shakes and starts to sweat. This song merited a little dance of us going ‘YEAH, new album WILL happen one day!’
HOD Trivia – As we’ve had this song since March 08, this has been busting around the live circuit for well over a year now, as of this blog it’s only been out a week and we’ve played it to death!

DEADLY WHEELS OF STEEL

Written about – Killer cyborg judges, riding on their deadly wheels of steel, to come and punish the guilty…and innocent too for good measure.
Influenced by – Lots of comics, Judge Dread especially from back in the day when anthrax prompted us to read them (I AM THE LAWWWW!).
During the demos – Was originally pencilled to be a song about monkeys playing crazy golf to save mankind but even that was too silly by our lofty heights. Ste did some lyrics for which he thought was a different song while at work and to be fair, they pissed all over all the others we had. POW! Democracy in action.
HOD Trivia – The low pitched voice at the end is obviously Dave, there was a gap in the lyrics and we ad-libbed some stupid grindhouse trailer themes on the end which we ended up keeping. The lyrics ‘ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND THEY GO, WILL THEY STOP…’ were kindly looped for us in the studio for ten minutes until we wanted to murder each other, so we had a cup of tea, calmed down & all went home before that happened.

Expect volume 2 sometime next week (After bloodstock), hope to share a pint with a good few of you in a field this weekend. Come and say hello and have a cider with us.

YARP.
