January 13th, 2009 - ScarabMetal Productions is pleased to present Canadian breakout thrashmetal act Bisonb.c. at The Stetson in Calgary on February7th,2009. The bill also includes two bands from Edmonton; thrash metal act Acantha,and death metal group Death Toll Rising. Opening the show willbeCalgary’s melodic death act, Norrath.
Signedto Metal Blade Records, Bison b.c. released their debut album “QuietEarth” to immediate critical acclaim which led to a North Americantour in2008 with Baroness and Genghis Tron. With a successfulyearbehind them, their February performance at the Stetson will be one oftheir fewNorth American dates before they embark on their first European tourwithGermany’s The Ocean. The tour will take them into late Marchand through10 countries. Though labelled thrash metal, Bison b.c. bring anumber ofinfluences to their music, mixing powerful riffs with some doomoverlays andeven a somewhat punky edge. This and their high-energy live performancecaughtthe attention of Calgarians in a major way at two previous performancesin thecity and fully demonstrated just how powerful a hook Bison b.c. wields.Theyare currently being featured in CMJ and RollingStone.com as one of thebreakoutbands of the year.
Sub-headliningwill be Edmonton’s favourite thrashers, Acantha, who ravagedWestern Canada last summer with their “Bawls on the Road 08”tour. At the end of 2008, they officially released their first-fulllengthalbum “Eternal Punishment”. Alsofrom Edmonton, Death Toll Rising made their return to the metalscene inNovember 2008 after a year-long hiatus. The group returned with a newline-upand a crushing new EP entitled “Spontaneous Decapitation”.Opening the show will be Calgary’s melodic death metal act Norrath.Thiswill be their first live appearance in over a year. Audiences areencouraged tocome early to hear Norrath’s new material and get a spot at what issure to bea packed house at the Stetson.
