Review in Lords of Metal!
For those too lazy to click the link:
A mixture of Swedens Hellacopters and the desert stoner rock of Kyuss are describing Thinning The Herd to the fullest. Or should I say that these guys from the Big Apple are Metallica doing it stoner style or grunging Soundgarden taking it the hard rock way. Grinding rocking and great riffs that give a good retro feel about the nineties hardrock and metal sound. Lots of fun, lots of joy and great rock’n’roll. Just do it, don’t play around! The band has a new drummer by the way since their last one spontaneously combusted leaving nothing more than green stains on stage. And that my friends, is pure rock’n’roll I guess!

Rich and Gavin are so pleased to introduce Ben Proudman (x Vox Populi) as their new drummer. Ben hails from West Virginia -- adding a southern gent vibe to our northern angst, Proudman is a bad ass drumemr with a lot of heart and soul. Our previous drummer spontaneously combusted at a show -- leaving a little green stain on the drum stool.

THINNING THE HERD DEVIL MASK SELF-RELEASED
Scraping the seedy underbelly of the Big Apple with enormous rock riffs,NYC trio Thinning the Herd return with another batch of stonerriffic hard rock chock full of grit and substance on the five-track DEVIL MASK. Bridging the gap between the heavier side of grunge and the groovier side of metal, tracks like “Kitchen Sink” summon a ‘90s power rock vibe kind of like Monster Magnet meeting up with Soundgarden while “Uninformed” strikes with the subtlety of a punch square in the gut and “Simple Job” rocks like the best song your favorite Swedish stoner rock band never wrote. If you enjoy in your face music with an exhilarating rock ‘n roll aura, Thinning the Herd is a bonafide choice for a hellacious good time.

THINNING THE HERD LOST TRACKS EP SELF-RELEASED
NYC trio Thinning the Herd unleash their bastardized concoction of rowdy protopunk, desert metal and stoner rock on Gotham City and beyond with LOST TRACKS EP. While this offering is merely a three-song endeavor, this cagey act realizes that less is more, as this short yet super sweet excursion gives you a morsel of their sticky sweet sound before leaving you yearning for the fat 'n fuzzy guitar tones with an authentic Swedish stoner metal aura of bands like The Mushroom River Band found on "Simple Job". Add in a vocalist whose whiskey-soaked throat croons the Danzig-esque stripper pole anthem "Defiler" with the proper balance of brazen balls and drunken swagger in place and Thinning The Herd's heralded bell-bottom belligerence works alongside the acid-ingesting salad daze vibe before spitting out a full-on rawk amalgamation of Sabbath, Soundgarden, and Kyuss. This spaceship caravan moves and grooves with hefty halluciginetic riffs and swings with a deliberate diabolical power to effortlessly conjure up flashbacks from wild days of rock 'n roll excess time after time.

Originally a four piece, TTH have decided to move forward as a trio -- jogging in the path of the masters before us (Triumph, Rush, ZZ Top, Cream), they do satisfy.
Rich (Bass Thumper 4400.00) is now the low end, recruiting a black-as-night Fender Jazz bass to do his bidding. He wears a cut off at the sleeves t shirt but this doesn't bode well with the clergy. Rich has recently been asked to remove his yamulka, letting wine of the Gods stain flesh.
Gavin (Shredmaster 666) will continue the responsibility of voice, writing prose and strumming guitar (learning and mastering all parts from Van Halen I-II, Diver Down and some of 1984, Zappa's Apostrophe, Destruction's Sentence of Death LP, Zoot Allures and Shiek Yerbouti was no easy task). His siren like voice can be heard through walls and have been known to command people to do things they might not want to do.
Dan continues the drums, drinks coffee from Dunkin Doughnuts, yielding viscus swamp residues long after sessions with women. He is fighting gentrification but sees a seer that has longer hair than anyone he ever knew, long enough for his soul patch to attract North Side Eskimo ring bearing sluts.
Ditching the Van Halen/Zappa scene was a hard wrought experience and left us here, dressed in black, white, green and sometimes gold.
