So---I talked you up enough to get you here. Congratulations to me! Out of all the people who handed you cards, you actually typed in a url, and might even want to listen to the show. If you do--let me know, and I'll get you a copy, for completely UN-commercial use, of course. No need to anger the KALX gods at this point in my itinerant production career.
This is all assuming anyone will ever read this....hmmm...if you do, friend me, so at least i'll feel popular. Thanks for visiting, and nice to meet you!

So, apparently a [for our purposes, un-named] Public Affairs show on KALX recently aired a show that was stumbling drunkly along the thin line the FCC draws between decency and indecency, and therefor, all the Public Affairs producers had to go through Indecency and Obscenity training again.
This is almost as fun as it sounds, except it doesn't really start until AFTER the meeting. Following an hour of discussing legal and anatomical matters in a very SPECIFIC manner, I went home to edit my show on, what else, ORGANS.
Then timing couldn't have been more ironic. I could NOT write a script without innuendo and humor equivalent to 4th grader fart jokes. Sadly, many of those jokes remain in the final version, including the actual cliche "size does matter."
Tune in bad taste in humor and good taste in music, including selections from J.S. Bach, Widor and Arcade Fire.
Write me if you miss the show-I'll hook you up!

Oh-there is SO much I didn't get to! So many resources! Best ones:
Documentary: "The Theremin: An Electronic Odessy"
"Moog"-apparently it's kind of boring, but it does have a great segment on how he started building the first theremins.
A weekly theremin show on web radio! Sunday nights! Check it out!
www.cygnusradio.com
EVERYTHING ELSE, including a list roughly 800 pages long of bands that use the theremin: www.thereminworld.com
And my favorite youtube theremin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJYho56INKU
Thanks for stopping by. PLEASE BE OUR FRIEND. I am so lonely.

Howdy folx and people I don't know: You want to hear some great edutational radio?
Dowload our latest nonsense:

"The Human Beating Box" is what Peter called Beatboxing. He didn't really get it, or get into it, but maybe you will. Learn about vocal percussionists from Bobby Mc Ferrin to Rahzell as well as LOTS of drunk/sober/bored/crazy people from the Bay try their hand at said "Human Beating Box."
Also, this show features an interview with THE Joshua Walters of The Vowel Movement beatbox collective. He's super!
Okay....going to go enjoy what little is left of my free time. : ) Thanks for reading!

Happy New Year! As a gift, you can download all 29minutes and 59 seconds of our last holiday show, "Jingle Bikes." But hurry, it's being webhosted only until 1/7/07, at which time the bicycles will all turn into pumpkins, and Peter and I will scurry away like the mice we truly are!
For download, go here:

What a rush! Peter and I are exausted after a 2 week rush to get this mother produced. It was kind of (DEFINITELY) a last minute decision. I happened to open one of those silly links people sometimes forward you. I'd hate to think what I've thrown away, because this one's a doozy:
http://createdigitalmusic.com/2006/12/04/music-for-bicycles-ensembles-symphonies-and-bikelophones/
That's where we found out about the Specialized commision of the Nutcracker Suite, how we found Flip, the Biklephone, and WAY more than we could fit on the show (For example, the bike-run drum machine). But if you've got the itch-check it out.
Also, don't miss the video of Frank Zappa on the Steve Allen Show before YouTube yanks it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGPPBwDBJDs
So, do you want to hear something ironic? My bike was stolen during the production of this show! The day after Peter and I invaded the bike shop and I bought a few things to gear up my bike. Fortunately, I guess, I still have the accesories. Just not the bike. Why the karma?
Jingle Bells-that was a hastily done project. Please understand that! I'll be taking those sounds home over Christmas break and hopefully will be able to give them a little better treatment. Perhaps Auld Lang Syne?
We 3 Kings? That's what happens when you're tired of working on your show, AND drinking beer. However, I'm glad it's on there. It's time someone is at least a little un-apologetic about there mediocre vocals. We can't all be polarzed on the Amercan Idol scale. Stand up for your singing rights!
Can you tell I haven't slept? Did I mention that I had to put on a school Christmas show this week? That we did this in 2 weeks, and that our last show took us roughly 3 months to finish? Well, we're crawling up the learning curve kids, and thanks for staying tuned.

Sorry to have missed you for so long! Two whole episodes gone by, and no pictures, no links. We get a little shy sometimes. We promise to get caught up soon--Stay TUNED for a website that may even contain our past shows! In the meantime, thanks for listening. Would you like to get to know us?
Alternate Tunings is produced by Julie Bruins and Peter Hurney at the University of California and listener supported radio studios of KALX Berkeley. Julie is a flutist and elementary school music teacher. Peter is a mechanic and master ukelele builder. Both can currently be heard subbing dj shifts as well as making several cameos in several on-air spots on KALX.
We started working on Alternate Tunings in the late spring of 2006, and to be honest, it was all Peters idea. Julie was a little busy-but couldn't help getting involved once she was called onto the project. Now we spend inordinate amounts of time making this show happen, because we have so much fun doing it. So you'd better perk yer ears up an' listen good. We worked hard on that!
