Now that exams are over, I had a couple days before I have to drive home tomorrow, so I decided to put some of that time towards attempting to remix the Ransomrath song "Love in the Water."  One of the band members frequents the BT messageboards and posed an impromptu remix contest on there, just for fun.  Honestly, every single time I find out about a remix contest, I almost always give it a try.  If I want to improve my skills at producing and creating new sounds, I have to practice.  And the quickest way to jump start the writing process is to start with someone else's material.  So, after a couple of days 'practicing,' I came up with something that inspired me a little.  So I mixed down a little preview of what I've been working on for the last two days and posted it on here.  Tell me what you think, and I'd be more than happy to elaborate on what types of synths, etc. I used.

OK, so this is my first blog post on this myspace page, and the only real news is that I just posted a song, "Dimensionless," which is just another little mix of some ideas I had bouncing around.  I'm really happy with the feel of the end of the song.  It's a combination of the ametric sounding bass line that is found in the intro and a few other leads.  Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think.

Also, I just got a simple little midi interface to connect my casio keyboard to live, and it really help with writing and playing with instruments.  I have to say, I'm really excited about getting the full version of Live, because I feel like I know the software well enough to do some pretty amazing things once I can put unlimited complexity into everything I create.

One more thing: right now I'm working a few remixes.  One is of a song called "Love in the Water" by Ransomrath, a project of someone I met on the BT messageboards.  Check out the original here.  The other is a song called "A Feeling" that a friend of mine, Shane Hagan, wrote.  I'm super super excited about this one.  The stuff I've been putting together while working on it has been really inspiring.

edit: I decided I'd let you guys know how I got the pad sounds in dimensionless, cause I thought it was really interesting and super simple.  Step one, record yourself blowing into a microphone.  Step two, apply effects (resonators, reverbs, eqs, etc.).  Step three, cut a hole in a box.  Step four, profit!!!  (jk, hahahaha, two jokes at once!)
