Current mood:  adventurous
here's an updated songlist with some title changes and new additions:

heavy
wound
my new life
act i: holding on, act ii: letting go
what i wish i could say
blue + green
the brightness
you will glow once again!
tomorrow
open your eyelids and see for the first time!

i'm also trying to do some things musically that i've never done. for one, i'm spending a TON of time on lyrics. i've never really been a lyrics writer per se, but i guess i'll try this time around :-) i am also trying to spend much more time on the percussive elements of these new songs. one more major change: NO ACOUSTIC GUITARS. that's right. this is a major challenge for me, but i think i can pull it off. stay tuned.

that's right, friends. we're up to 10 songs! my goal is to have 13 written within 2 weeks and then to begin working with everything in protools. if i can be recording guitar and vocals by Christmas, i will be a happy music man.

if you're one of my friends looking for a good music rec, check out the new frightened rabbit single "swim until you can't see land." the b-side, "fun stuff," is also phenomenal, maybe even better than the single. frightened rabbit are way way WAY too good, imho.

and if you want a movie rec, check out "fantastic mr. fox." wes anderson does not disappoint with this one.

I've been recording again.  I know you hear that a lot.   And I'm hoping to have something out by Spring.   I know you hear that a lot too.   And it sounds a lot different than the other stuff.   Deja vu!   I have yet to record anything with an acoustic and there are lots of dance beats used.   I'd say that's quite different.

I'll keep ya posted.

"Where are these two cd's?" This is a great question and I have a disappoining answer: they're not. Did I write, both, enough songs for the psychology ep and dark album? You betcha. Were they good? I think the laments were good, but I wasn't too happy with the therapy songs. So why not release the lament songs? Well, truth be told, I just don't feel like emotionally diving back into that. I've recorded about 12 or 13 demoes and maybe someday I will record them. But for now, no. So...I'm working on yet more new songs? When will they be recorded? Hopefully soon. I'll keep you updated. Between working on this book, grad school classes, work, my internship, and just normal life, I'm pretty busy, but I fully intend on recording again asap, I promise!

so something cool has happened to met that doesn't happen much in the music biz... i'm ahead of schedule with recording!!!

i finished all of the acoustic parts this week, as well as the majority of the electric parts. i'm probably going to record a few more electric parts back in chicago at infidel! studios... but yeah.

what this means is that the only things left to do are vocals, post production at infidel!, and then mastering! woot!

not sure if i posted the track list before but here are the songs that will most likely be on the release barring unforeseen circumstances (ie rapture or fast moving terminal illness).

rose tyler
the rain in the morning
my only comfort in life and death (19)
under the silent stars
isolde (someone someday)
3 months til december
heartbeat
awaken!
crimson
seen
frail

isn't this exciting?! i think so!

onto vocal recording!!! ... ... ...

p.s. buy the new anathallo record! it's AMAZING!

so it's probably time to give everyone a music update (since that is one of the initiatives of this blog).

1. i'm pretty overwhelmed with schoolwork at this moment. however, i hope to begin recording this week, little by little. my goal is to have 10-12 songs completed and ready for mastering by Christmastime.

2. the cd will sound pretty different than the ep. not as much acoustic, more orchestration. if you've seen a live show, you will understand. there will even be some electric guitar on it and some guest stars.

3. "boxer" by the national is suuuuccchhhh a good cd and is totally inspiring me. if you haven't heard the national, check out the song "fake empire." so good.

4. i am planning on having a couple of shows in chicago come Christmastime. if you have a good Chicago venue or show possibility, let me know!

5. i have a pretty big announcement soon about record label stuff. can't talk yet specifically but things are good!

6. did i mention how much i love this national cd?

7. i think that's about all for now. i just want y'all to know that i am, indeed, still alive, and there are things happening... just at a little slower pace than previously. hopefully i can throw a new demo or something up on the myspace within the next month. so keep checking it (myspace.com/matthewcavanaugh) and keep checking the blog (matthewcavanaugh.blogspot.com).

8. peace out homies.
