"Get Yer Fa La La's Out" is a new downloadable Christmas compilation featuring: KLAATU "December Dream" - previously unavailable digital version of the 7" edit (different than the one on Solology/Raarities); TERRY DRAPER "Christmas Time Is Here Again" (a Beatles tune done two different ways) and several other rare Xmas tracks; MAUREEN LEESON "A Song For Christmas" originally only found on Terry Draper's "Furzall Family" EP available here. Draper wrote, recorded and produced this track; DR. LOTECH "Xmas Spasmas" is this former Terry & The Twilight Zone keyboardist's Frank Zappa-esque spin on a Christmas track. You'll also get great tunes by The Carpet Frogs (Burton Cummings/Randy Bachman backing band), Jeff Jones (of Tom Cochrane & Red Rider fame), Tom Hooper (ex-Grapes Of Wrath), The Kings (who had a major hit with "Switchin' To Glide" back in the '80s), Bob Segarini (he of Wackers/Family Tree/Roxy fame), and MORE! http://www.cdfreedom.com/artists/christmas/catalog/getyerfalalasout

Terry McManus was a Canadian Artist who had some success in this field starting in 1971 with "Sunshower". He was a fixture on the radio in Canada for the next 4 years with several other songs, the most successful being "Carolyn".
It is probably a given that you will not know any of these songs but their sound will be very familiar to any of you who are fans of this genre. This first album on the Pristine Label is his early work from that time. The album was recorded over 2 weekends at Thunder Sound in Toronto with the last song, Out Vancouver Way, recorded live at 6:00 am on the Monday morning. The musicians on the session include John Woloschuk (Klaatu) on bass, keyboards and backing vocals; Garwood Wallace (Twitch) on guitars; Barry Keane (Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray) on drums.
This is an eclectic collection of songs from the Neil Young influenced, All The Love Keeps Missing to the 1965 Brit Pop "Baby's Gonna Learn How To Cry". The first 3 songs on the album were all charted in Canada with Carolyn reaching number 9. The material is now available, complete, for the first time as MP3 downloads or on a limited edition CD (with complete liner notes by Terry McManus). Check out this catchy Sunshine Pop for yourself at: http://www.bullseyesongs.com/mcmanus_all.html

Many fans who've received the new CD have been commenting on the amazing sound quality from what amounts to a collision of demos, outtakes, live tracks and just plain studio noodling. What the liner notes don't elaborate on is the monumental effort over 10 years to restore the band's archives.
The six 'new' live tracks were recorded at The Toronto Doubletree Hotel ballroom in Toronto in May 2005 by Bullseye co-owner Jim Hoeck. The material was remixed in 2005 by Dee Long. This rough draft became the working audio files which John and Terry contributed their production skills along with engineer John 'Beetle' Bailey in the summer of 2008. There are NO overdubs. Just a lot of finessing.
The songs on "Solology" that came from the 2005 vinyl collection 'Raarities' were lifted from many sources: 1/4" reel-to-reel (7 ips, 15 ips, and even 30 half-speed ips), cassette, and vinyl.
Klaatu webmaster and audio restoration professional David Bradley did the transfers on "December Dream" (alternate 7" edit); "Silly Boys" (Suna Sunaru mix); and "Love Of A Woman" (alternate mix)...and the two components of "A Routine Day" (instrumental composite) that were later assembled into a single stereo track using Sound Forge by Jaimie Vernon.
Peter Moore (who also mastered 'Peaks' for Bullseye and tape transferred the major portion of 'SunSet') did the transfers on "Sub Rosa Subway" (Terry Brown mix); "We're Off You Know" (7" mix); "California Jam" (instrumental) and "Sir Bodsworth Rugglesby III" (instrumental)...oh, and the CDs hidden bonus track.
Garwood Wallace did the vinyl-to-digital transfer of "Juicy Luicy" because there was no original tape transfer....de-clicking and de-hissing using a combination of RCA and Columbia Records' RIAA standard vinyl audio mastering curve algorithm.
Bullseye's Jaimie Vernon did the CASSETTE transfers of "Hot Box City" (Live) and "Come One, Come All" (unreleased song demo) plus the edit of "Loneliest Of Creatures" (European 7") which was really the album version spliced and pasted in Sound Forge to replicate what was on the original single from which there was no master tape available.
The "Calling Occupants" re-edit is a bit of a quagmire. Terry Draper had John Woloschuk's master tape from 1976 of three different 7" single edits transferred in 1996. After the remixed version of the song done by Dee Long and Terry Draper for the 'Due South' soundtrack was vetoed by John (and, as yet, never released), Terry tinkered with two of those alternate edits and created the version you hear on the TV show soundtrack (and the only Klaatu song available on iTunes). So...I don't have any info about who did the initial tape transfer of the three original edits in 1996.
The version you hear on "Solology" is yet ANOTHER re-edit from those three alternate versions...so it differs from the album, it differs from the single, and it differs from 'Due South' version. Terry Draper was never happy with the original 7" single version -- the whole second verse was missing -- so he wanted to tinker again and we came up with what you hear. [Jaimie Vernon again did this in Sound Forge]
NB: What's even more mind-boggling is that there is also three newer edits that Jaimie Vernon did for the "Calling Occupants" video that had bee shown at Klaatu Kon in 2005. We did a 6 minute, a 5 minute and a 4 minute version as the length of the song on the screen would depend on how much money it was going to cost us to animate it. We initially sent the 4 minute version to the video's animator....and he was disappointed that some of the lyrical imagery he'd heard on the album version was now gone. So we then sent him the 6 minute and 5 minute versions....we settled on the 5 minute one because it was cheaper to do and he got to include some of the more dynamic animation elements he'd envisioned.
The Raarities portion of the disc was mastered by Joe Lambert in New York; the new live tracks were mastered by John Bailey here in Toronto; everything was edited together and sequenced by Jaimie Vernon in Audacity.
And that's the rest of the story....
