Here's a brand new song from my brand new place, humbly dedicated to my best friend, Mr. Dave Sarkis. It's called Thursday and for anyone who ever shared their Thursday night with us, thank you. This tune will be refined & rerecorded for release on an upcoming album, but here's a rough rough draft, warts and all.
thursday words & music by joshua skaja copyright 2008
must be a thursday i'm at this old pub again must be time to go on i hear the rumble of the train i turn off the jukebox turn the stage lights on tune up my guitar strings and start picking out a song i say
here's to good friends and the best of times here's to songs that carry us when we find ourselves well spoken with nothing really to say let's sing the songs that say the things we want to say
3 in the morning the crowd is long since gone bartender left me here he said, "lock up when you go" i help myself to the kitchen the bottles and the tap i shout a toast for none to hear i feel at home right here where i'm at
god bless the irish for their whiskey & their beer throw back a pint of black & a shot of amber-clear words spoken only lose their meaning in the air something is always lost between my lips and your ear
stage is dark now sun rising in the east i steady myself on the bar i help me to my feet out on the platform the crazies gather up wearing frowns and work clothes drinking coffee from little paper cups
i put my guitar in my car and i start walking home guess i'm hard of understanding for things i don't want to know dawn's broken and there's nowhere left to go but it don't bother me cause i'm already home i'm already home
