Sonic Wave Magazine in Spain posted a fresh review of the Live • Hot • Nasty slab this past week, here's a link:

The Dt’s
Live hot nasty

Serpents Hole
Aprovechan para incorporar dos temas nuevos: “Trouble on double time” y “Too much woman (For a henpecked man)”. Autor: Rafa García-Moreno

Porta Rock Press in Brazil has posted a review of our Live • Hot • Nasty cd (in Portuguese) - you'll need to scroll down the page a bit to hit that action - third pressing in the works, with a kickin' new re-master by Mr. Jack Endino.

THE DT'S
Live - Hot - Nasty
(Serpents Hole Recs)

Rusty James

The DT’s at Slim’s
By CHRIS COYLE
Sunday, March 29th, 2009 @ 11:24 AM
I packed a sack lunch, an extra change of clothes, toothbrush and set out on my journey from Seattle to way down yonder…Georgetown. Sticking out like a sore thumb in the mix of an industrial kingdom lies the Pig Iron BBQ and Slim’s Last Chance Chili Shack. On the evening of March 28, the “Shack” hosted Bellingham’s own The DT’s.

All lot of people around town still give me the impression they don’t know where Slim’s is let alone believe it’s not a pigment of their imaginations. For the record, Slim’s is the ideal rock bar for straight forward rock n’ roll; cheap beers, loud sound system, unlimited peanuts and of course the chili. With the chili, though, Slim’s bathroom is not the ideal bathroom.

I missed the DT’s the last time they drove the ol’ van down to Seattle when the played the Shanty Tavern in January. As I approached my car to drive to Lake City, I was greeted with a fairly gnarly sight: my poor Camry had been gutted on the inside, windows broken and valuables stolen (except for my prior band’s CD) leaving the car and me helpless. Needless to say I was eager to catch the band this time around.

Seattle’s Mexican UFO opened the show with some sleazy glam rock. A Les Paul-o-palooza if you will. After a quick set, the Moonspinners hopped on stage. The first impression you get when the programmed drum beats and bass lines come out of the massive synthesizers is one of awkwardness. But that awkward feeling immediately evaporates when the band comes together and singer Annabella shares her Motown-inspired vocals. Both guitar players Garth and Tor compliment the singing with crisp arrangements that makes for a fun, yet, innocent dance party.

Just before the stroke of midnight, the DT’s assembled on stage.

You would think with such a simple, straight-forward rock n’ roll sound, the band would be easy to describe with a couple of similar band comparisons. However, it’s not the case. Starting with the rhythm section, Mike VanBuskirk (drums) and Matt Z (bass) are so insanely tight and coordinated, they would be able to turn a John Coltrane avant garde piece into a blitzing, Zeke-esque anthem. Then there’s Dave Crider (guitars), the beast. I swear the dude looks like he’s seven feet tall on stage. Absolutely destroying his Telecaster with grimy, power riffage, Crider channels edgy blues ala Angus Young but does with with punk-driven undertones that would make Motorhead’s Lemmy say, “Fuck yes.” And finally there’s Diana Young-Blanchard (vocals) that takes the ensemble from “mind stimulating” to “mind-blowing.” Picture Janis Joplin or Tina Turner singing Supersuckers or the Oblivians. It is nuts and its so damn good.

Fresh back from days of binge drinking at SXSW in Austin, the band blasted through a set heavy on the 2007 release, Filthy Habits, as well as a handful of new jams. “Crowfinger” and “Red Eye” were particularly crowd favorites as each member was rocking out in his or her own world. And as these songs were violating ears across the bar, it further solidified the notion that though the band’s albums are great, they don’t do justice for the live show. The songs come alive and all contain a few extra punches that your vinyl, compact disc or mp3 simply cant hit you with.
