Current mood:  thankful
This past weekend The Rusty Nail hosted The Annual Blues Competiton, a Cape Fear Blues Society event. I was very excited to see a bunch of great bands, a very fair competiton, and the amount fans who represented.  I had a blast with Toni Lee behind the bar, and my crowd was patient and courteous. Let this serve as a huge thank you to all who came and participated.  The winner of the solo performance was/is Rick Tobey. Man he really got the crowd into it, and he will return to Memphis as a true representative of Wilmington. Worth mentioning were the other solo acts who competed. Spider Mike, Tampa Blue, Mojo Collins, and My Buddy Todd, all brought great performances.  I connected with Todd after the show, and have My Buddy Todd on the calendar for Friday, November 20th, as a result.  I love this business.
The competition really heated up between Jen & Tonic, and the winner, Blind Lemon Pledge, who also won their spot in Memphis.  Look forward to the fundraisier we will host to "Pave The Road To Memphis".  Thanks, also to the Jake Haldenwang Band, who we're still talking about! That youngster can wail!
We continued the evening with a great 1st Saturday Jam that lasted late...great job to all of the musicians who make it happen.  Many thanks!

I've been planning my calendar for the end of the year and into January, and it's hard to beleive I'm going into my 10th year here at The Rusty Nail.  Wow, what a milestone.  The calendar is looking great, and there are sure to be some fun parties planned for my wonderful members.
The Sweepstakes machines seem to be a big hit with everyone, so come try your luck while listening to some great live music...remember not only do I have great bands booked on the weekends, but the standard jam nights are in full swing...
Tuesday is Blues...
Wednesday is Accoustic Open Mic...
Sunday is Jazz...
EVERY WEEK

Musicians are welcome to join in on these nights, and I'm meeting more and more talented musicians each week...very exciting.  I hope to meet some later today, because the Annual Blues Competition starts at 5:00.  The winner goes to Memphis, gets a gig at The Nail, and gets bragging rights!!! It's hosted by The Blues Society, and we're getting geared up. After the competition, we will continue with the 1st Saturday Blues Jam.  Any way you look at it, this is a fun event!!
Check the calendar for upcoming shows. Stop by to say hello and have a cold one.

I'm celebrating my birthday this week, and have some fine, fine talent on schedule. First of all, the three jams a week seem to be going well, and a big thank you to the musicians who faithfully grace the Rusty Nail jams.  Pete, The Blues Society, Tim, Gary Allen, and Benny Hill are a pleasure to work with. Remember Tuesday is Blues, Wednesday is Accoustic, and Sunday is Jazz.

Now on to this week...it all starts on Thursday, 10/15 with Painted Man.  I can't catch these guys enough...I'm all over town searching their gigs, and I see a lot of you doing the same. Go see them any time and any place you can.  And they're kicking off birthday party at The Rusty Nail. That's Thursday, 9-1.

Friday, 10/16 is Connie's birthday, so we decided to host our party together. And we want to dance. The Dynamic Therm-O-Tones are performing and are always, always, always, a crowd pleaser. I can't wait, we're going to have a blast. This is an open invitation to everyone who wants to dance and groove...and birthdays are always fun around here!

Saturday, 10/17 we have an intimate evening with Nectar. So welcome back to town Brett Johnson, and great job finding your gal, Jackie, who sings like a dream. This duo changes the whole dynamic of The Rusty Nail when they perform. Brett's guitar playing is fantastic, and this duo performs pretty regularly on Thursdays. I'm happy to have them on a weekend night.

Aaahhhh Sunday. There's a great benefit show at Greenfield Amphitheater. It's from 1-6.  I'm hoping if a bunch of us can go, we can convince some of these fine musicians back to the club to play in Benny Hill's Jazz Jam at 8:00. If you haven't discovered the Sunday Night Jazz Jam, it's time.

I hope to see a lot of you this week.

I'd like to thank all the folks who came down to celebrate the Blues Festival weekend at The Rusty Nail.  To transform my little club into the outdoor tented event took a lot of worthwhile effort.  It was so much fun, and the talent that came through was fantastic. Thank you to the Blues Society for doing a great job, and pulling it off!
