My good friend Dylan just wrote a book about 10 years of touring with his band Tigersaw,

It's called "All my friends are right here with me" and  features first-person accounts of tours with Kimya Dawson, Castanets, Jason Anderson, Viking Moses, The Hotel Alexis, and more.

Picastro covered the Tigersaw song "Commerce in the Night" which appears on an accompanying CD with the book.

There are also rememberances by me, The Dirty Projectors, White Hinterland, Songs: Ohia, Tarantel and many more.

You can buy it here: http://burstandbloom.wordpress.com/books/

And you should.

The new Picastro record "Become Secret" is coming out in North America on my favourite Toronto label Blocks Recording Club.  NME featured the label in a recent article about the top 50 innovators.  At # 11 the label beat out musicians I have never heard of, not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

On September 11, the new Picastro album comes out on vinyl and features art work by Josef Bolf. It will be released in the U.K./Europe by Monotreme records in early 2010.

Picastro will be touring with Nadja in November with Aidan joining us on guitar.  This might never happen again so please come out.

Also, we have a new video by Vincent Moon/La Blogtheque here:

I can't figure out how to load it on our myspace page, if you can help, let me know.

Lastly, the ill-fated split with Greg Weeks will see the light of day in 2009.  I also just finished some piano based tracks for another 2009 release.

So, Picastro did a whole bunch of videos with the excellent Vincent Moon last fall in the lower East side of Manhattan.  It was during CMJ and lots of fun.

I have no idea if the one we shot in the latino barber shop will ever see the light of day but apparently there is one at www.crackle.com.  You go to music videos and there is a Take Away shows option or something.  It was raining, I look sweaty.

Check out BBC 1 on May 29 right after the news at ten.  "Towtruck" off the new Picastro album will appear in a documentary about surrealism.  This track is a collaboration with Dwayne Sodahberk (Tigerbeat 6), he makes beautiful music.

Also, a track recorded by Greg Weeks (of the Espers) called "the Pig & Sucker" appears in the new Alan Zweig documentary "Lovable".  If you don't know Alan's films, you should really check them out.  Also included are songs by Great Lakes Swimmers, Julie Doiron, Final Fantasy & Barzin.

Check it out! This was recorded during our spring European tour.  Lots of good stuff from this station in Amsterdam, also featured is Spires That in the Sunset Rise.

Some people have been asking and if you would like to own a copy of Ochi Chorni, you can buy a copy of Badaboom Grammaphone # 4 here:

http://badabingrecords.com/badaboom.html.

It also features Six Organs of Admittance, Greg Weeks, Pearls Before Swine and some other awesome shit.  Plus Ben is a cool guy and he runs a good label so check it out.

I've thought about it, and I don't think it will go on any upcoming Picastro records. Just don't tell me you downloaded it or something, I don't want to know that shit.  Especially if you have an ipod, ha ha ha.

Current mood:broke

I used to read the mini crime section in the community newspaper.  It is really hilarious and a great reminder why Toronto is safe and nice.

Anyway lately I have been noticing how much I have been approving of this activity, like the girl who got her ipod stolen at 3am at the corner of Bathurst and St.Clair.  If you can afford an ipod, you can afford to have it stolen.  All the crime section does is give me ideas that ultimately I think are not that bad.

Picastro will be taking a break from out of town shows until some more stuff gets recorded.  Expect a solo record out early next year and a full band album out fall next year (which special guests!) If you have any recent photos from shows please let me know since these are old and everyone feels like they look bad in them (which they don't. plus Davida takes awesome photos).
