Best of Clark Gayton now available through CDBaby.

My ears tells me that Clark Gayton is one of the better trombone players I have heard in a long time. His bio is impressive: he has played with many of the greats and spent four years in the Duke Ellington Orchestra led by Mercer Ellington.

Clark's trombone voice is so sharp and crisp and clean that I wish this CD has more of it. Don't Try to Question is a sampler that includes funk, contemporary Jazz, straight-ahead Jazz, and hip-hop. I really enjoyed "Tina, Too," a straight-ahead piece, and "Look thru This." Both featured Clark on his 'bone.

"Lord knows there's already a whole lot of shaking going on throughout MTO Volume 1 whenever trombonist Clark Gayton tailgates."

Album Review
Trumpeter Steven Bernstein's Millenial Territory orchestra is inspired by the leader hearing some of the exciting late '20s and early '30s recordings of territory bands .... The musicians all show versatility, trombonist Clark Gayton takes particularly impressive solos, and overall, the music is quite fun. Easily recommended to fans of the Mingus Big Band and other somewhat riotous ensembles. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Some of you may have heard about the recent fracas at nublu - (check out http://www.myspace.com/karinazeviani site) - and may be interested in the history of the "cabaret" laws in NYC which unfairly discriminate against small and primarily jazz-oriented venues.  This link is to a book entitled "Gigs: Jazz and the Cabaret Laws in New York City" by Paul Chevigny.

Get some knowledge and get involved.
