Hmmmmn....
[01 Jun 2005 | Wednesday]

This is a montage of vocal recording and mixdown of Jesus Jack.  If you listen closely, you can hear the bass work of Omar M.  He was holding the camera, too.  This is one of the few tracks he lent his talents on before departing.  We'll miss Omar, but we're damn glad to have Connors now!

Dearest Friends, Sorry for keeping so quiet the last few weeks. We (theLamented) have been working on new songs and knocking around the demon that records them. When we will be done? Who knows. What we do know is... that we want these songs to be perfect and so rocking that you’ll be kicking down our door to keep working on new songs. We are lucky enough at this moment to have the time to sit and share the kind words we have received from YOU, from this site and from our shows. Every word and every shake of hands have not been forgotten. Thank you for very much for the support and the patience. I do believe we will be posting snippets of the new songs from now and then... and possibly be filming the recording sessions, which will most likely be put up on the main .com site. But we will be in touch. Thank you again for everything. Every note we play, every distorted guitar, every grunted bass line, every blistered vocal chord, and every late nite coffee run... we are thinking of you. ~M, theLamented

Well, I'd love to tell you we were awesome, and our good friends will say we were to our faces, but we had ourselves a rough little show.It was our funnest, though...

We should have known on the way up that it was going all wrong.Owen was following Omar & me with an SUV full of equipment and we had to stop fast for a light. One of the guitar cases came flying out from the back and simultaneously broke his rearview mirror and jammed his thumb. He said it was bad luck.Maybe 7 hours bad luck...

Well, we loaded in and found out that that they didn't need our bass rig and that we should use theirs...that might not have been wise.More on that later.

Of course, there were three other bands playing that night, so a sound check was out of the question.I have to say that the sound staff at the House of Blues Anaheim is just plain awesome.Really good guys and really competent. And nice, too.Who ever heard of nice sound guys?

Well, they were and that was appreciated.

Yah, it was nice to be backstage there in the green rooms. We wondered who'd been there before us and what kind of stuff went down in those rooms. Will anyone ever find out that Owen... oh never mind. That's gotta be a secret!

So we walked down to to the Disneyland Hotel to have a drink with our friends to take the edge off of our nerves. That was not a good idea.Especially since we went twice! And you know one drink is not going to happen when your friends are there.I had a shot of Patron, followed by some Diablo shot, and a sip or two of a Cosmopolitan. The guys had beers or bacardi's. Well, it was still an hour and a half ‘til show time and I thought we'd be fine...

So we had a fast and furious, non-relaxing hour of getting our friends in and giving tickets to those who didn't get them.  Before we knew it, it was time to go on.

We got onstage, behind the curtain and started setting up.  Then Owen says “Shit, my amp’s busted!”

I guess the trip up had managed to smash some buttons on so he could only play distorted.  No problem, we just came to rock.

Well, Braedon’s drums never sounded so good.Like thunder on that awesome sound system. But who fucks up the first solo????Yah, me.I was so nervous and my hands felt like they weren’t mine…

No problem. We motored on.Hey, Anarchy 2K, then Spine Shaker, Roll Me Up, I’m Gone, Five Four Three Two, and then.. all hell breaks loose.   Someone yelled and then did the most Rock & Roll thing ever (as if showing up a bit buzzed wasn’t…)   I won’t say who or what he did, but when it was over, many people didn’t know if it was staged or an accident. It was NOT staged so…Like I said, I won’t say who or what, but look at the aftermath…

I did “Wake Up, Wake Up” by myself so we could get our tech stuff back up.  It felt really nice and sounded big, yet intimate.  Then we butchered “You Gotta Go Home” & “Space Age, Blues, Too”.  Omar & me both had tuning issues. He warned me not to buy that Fender tuner, too.  Now it came back and bit us both on the ass.Well, we finally got it together for the end of the show!  We skipped our Warsaw/Joy Division cover and went right to our best live song, “F**king Machine”.  Yah, that rocked. And guess who was happy…

At last, it was time to leave & get drunk. So we rocked, we stunk, then we rocked.Fuck, it was only our fourth show. And if you’re going to have a bad one, have it at the House of Blues…

This is rock again. This is punk again. This is revolution once more. But not because it sounds like it – because it’s about me and you fighting against something bigger than us. If you want to know how the Lamented came about, you'll have to ask us...
