Now that Burning Sky Records has released our latest – and quite possibly our best – release yet in Take Refuge In Pleasure: The Songs of Roxy Music Revisited, it is time to start thinking about the next record. After our well-regarded tributes to Roxy Music, The Posies, and Jellyfish, we have decided to have a go at a tribute to another one of the greatest bands ever – Squeeze! We are looking for bands/artists who would like to have a go at covering a Squeeze song. Our plan is to cover Cool For Cats, Argybargy, and East Side Story in their entirety, and probably also U.K. Squeeze. If we can pull this off, this will be the biggest and best Burning Sky Records release yet! Interested? If you are interested in being a part of this Squeeze tribute, please send an e-mail to me at burningskyrecords@gmail.com. I hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a fun and fascinating record! Cheers, Alan Burning Sky Records

Jellyfish fans,
We have just posted our cover of one of the rarest, most obscure Jellyfish tracks. Please check out US artist DiEL's excellent cover of "Runnin' For Our Lives"!
Other than our cover, "Runnin' For Our Lives" is only available on the Not Lame Records "Fan Club Box Set" in demo form.
Did you know:
-The track was originally written by Andy and Roger with Cheap Trick's Robin Zander in mind to be the singer(!)
-The track was recorded with the thought that it might be used in conjunction with the Summer Olympics - thus all of the cheesy sports cliches in the lyrics...
-The direction given for the guitar solo in the Jellyfish version was to "imagine that you are standing on the edge of a cliff with the wind blowing though your hair..."
-Our cover is mixed by none other than Steve Fisk - legendary producer of Nirvana, Soundgarden, and The Posies.
-DiEL has done a great job re-inventing the song - it has a white soul feel to it and it's hard to imagine Robin Zander singing it... :)
-We maintained the Cliff Edge Guitar Solo Feel and brought in famed Louisiana guitarist Rick Naqvi and asked him to out-wank the original guitar solo... he did!
Hope you like it - I love every track on this record... :)
Cheers, Alan
p.s. We'll be posting more tracks, as well. These songs were made for summer!

Hi, Jellyfish fans. I have been listening to some great Jellyfish-esque music lately, and it got me thinking about what music out there would appeal to Jellyfish fans. Therefore, I am putting together my first List of Recommended CDs for Jellyfish Fans. Note that this list won't include albums by members of Jellyfish - these are other bands that I think that fans of Jellyfish will like. So, without further ado: 1.) Various Artists - Sensory Lullabies: The Ultimate Tribute to Jellyfish - Okay, you might have figured this was coming, but there is honestly no better (non-Jellyfish) album for the Jellyfish fan. 35 of the 38 tracks ever released by Jellyfish on CD appear on 2-CDs, and "Bellybutton" and "Spilt Milk" are covered in their entirety and in their original track sequence. You just can't beat it. We still have some copies left - I hope you'll check it out! Buy "Sensory Lullabies" here!2.) Skycycle - Ones and Zeros -
Many people don't know about Skycycle, but this 1999 release is very much in the Jellyfish vein. I have always thought that singer Steve Isaacs sounded an awful lot like Andy Sturmer, and the songwriting was really excellent. They only released this one full-length, but you need to check it out. Their cover of The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" is one of the greatest covers ever... You can hopefully find a copy cheaper than they are selling on Amazon, but here is a link: Buy Skycycle "Ones and Zeros" here!p.s. Their 1998 EP "Breathing Water" is also really good, and was produced by Failure's Ken Andrews - totally worth having. Buy Skycycle "Breathing Water" here!3.) Sugarbomb - Bully - This 2001 release is fantastic, and also incredibly Jellyfish-esque. Like Skycycle, Sugarbomb only had one proper full-length release. (They did release an earlier full-length called "Tastes Like Sugar" that has many of the same songs on it. The versions are slightly different, so completists will want it, as well). It has the big Jellyfish arrangements and the clever lyrics that we know and love. You can get this cheaply on Amazon: Buy Sugarbomb "Bully" here!4.) The Tories - Wonderful Life - This 1997 release was maybe the first album I bought that was truly Jellyfish-esque. Singer (and very cool cat) Steve Bertrand does sound a good bit like Andy Sturmer, and songs like "Flying Solo," "Gladys Kravitz" and "Wonderful Life" were all not unlike what you'd find on a Jellyfish CD. This is absolutely worth checking out, and available cheaply on Amazon: Buy The Tories "Wonderful Life" here! That's my list - please send me yours! As you might imagine, I love discovering bands in the vein of Jellyfish, and I know that many others here would welcome learning about them, as well. Cheers, Alan

Jellyfish and "Sensory Lullabies" fans,
I would like to ask you to please add our new MySpace page for the latest Burning Sky Records project – the "Songs of Roxy Music Revisited" page. THIS IS GOING TO BE OUR BIGGEST AND BEST ALBUM EVER!
We are planning another 3-CD release, this time celebrating the songs of one of the greatest bands ever – Roxy Music. This time, each CD will be available separately, and there will also be a special Limited Edition Box Set.
We're putting together another great roster of artists from all over the world, including some that you'll recognize from "Sensory Lullabies." We've started posting Sneak Previews of our songs as they come in – check them out!
We're also making sure that this is the greatest cover art that we have ever had. Roxy Music has always been known for their beautiful women on their album covers – we want our cover art to follow their example. Therefore, we've kicked off a Global "Songs of Roxy Music Revisited" Cover Model Search. We've begun posting the model submissions on our MySpace page, and I think you'll agree that we are getting some really good photos.
Come get on board – this is going to be another fun ride!
Cheers,
Alan

Download our most popular song - "Ignorance Is Bliss"!
Jellyfish and "Sensory Lullabies" fans,
Well, we have been selling our tracks on iTunes for a couple of months now, and we are starting to get data as to which songs are your favorites. The most downloaded track BY FAR to this point? Our excellent cover of "Ignorance Is Bliss" as performed by Illinois rockers Loveshine!
I can see why people love this track – it has all of the greatness of Jellyfish's version, except that it is completely guitar-driven. The guitar on this track is insane, and the vocals are excellent. I have posted the track on our MySpace profile so that you can hear it for yourselves. If you like it – and I think that you will – please consider downloading the track for yourself – it only costs 99 cents, and you'll have it forever. Check it out!

MySpace friends,
Now that we here at Burning Sky Records have two well-received albums under our belts – one revisiting the songs of Jellyfish ("Sensory Lullabies: The Ultimate Tribute to Jellyfish") and one revisiting the songs of The Posies ("Beautiful Escape: The Songs of The Posies Revisited") – it is time for us to start thinking about our next project. Many of you have submitted ideas for another "The Songs of [Insert band name here] Revisited," and we have been considering a number of possible ideas ourselves.
Right now we would like to see how many people out there would be interested in participating in an album celebrating the songs of one of our all-time favorite bands – the highly influential and brilliant band Roxy Music. Roxy Music has always been a favorite band of ours, and so creating a "Songs of Roxy Music Revisited" album would truly be a labor of love for us. We are also considering including some reinterpretations of songs of Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera, and Andy Mackay. At this point, we're not planning on including any of Bryan Ferry's solo work, but that could change depending on how things go.
As those of you familiar with Burning Sky Records know, we do not undertake these efforts in a small way. Our project celebrating the songs of Jellyfish resulted in 3 separate releases on 4-CDs covering EVERY song ever released by Jellyfish on CD, and our just-released Posies project resulted in 2 releases on 4-CDs with 50 different Posies covers, including reinterpretations of classic Posies songs by Posies members Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow, Joe Skyward, and Brian Young. If you plan to contribute a track for the Roxy Music Revisited project, you would be well-advised to check out our previous releases to know what kinds of covers we have used in the past. You can check them out here:
http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/burningskyrecords/StoreFront
In addition, all of our tracks are now available for download through Rhapsody. If you think that you might be interested in participating in this project, please contact me at burningskyrecords@gmail.com. Also, if you know somebody who you think might be interested, please let them know.
Whether or not we go through with this project is up to you – if there is enough interest out there, we will make it happen. We look forward to hearing from you!!
Cheers,
Alan Heaton and Steve Turnidge
