So good news is we are releasing a new single by local rising talented rapper Mr ShaoDow and also stadium rockers Smilex. The single is released on April 6th on iTunes.

It is a rock version of Mr ShaoDow's track 'Look Out There Is A Black Man Coming' which also will see a percentage of the profits from sales going to Love Music Hate Racism. We shall also be releasing the original version of the track too.

It is quite a new style for Smilex and was very much influenced by the Judgement Night Soundtrack released a (few) years back which was a wicked compilation of rock/hip-hop cross overs featuring the likes of House Of Pain, Sonic Youth, Cypress Hill, Pearl Jam etc. There is also a video for the track coming too. Smilex shall also be supporting the fantastic MC Lars on Mon April 6th @ The 02 Academy Oxford, tickets are £7 http://www.wegottickets.co....m/event/45193 - it will also be the launch for the single, so Smilex will also be playing the track live with Mr Shaodow.

That's all for now. Don't forget to buy the new single for I guess 79p per track from iTunes on the 6th April, it is all for a good cause. You can hear a sample of the track over at http://www.myspace.com/mrshaodow.
Let us know what you think.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us with getting this single together.
In particular Rob Digweed for fantastic artwork...www.hotcrossdesign.co.uk, Owen Bush, Phill Honey, video Joe & his crew.

cheers

So it has been a pretty good year for us at Quickfix, we thought we would go over some of our highlights.

Sadly we have not been able to put any releases out this year due to a lack of money from previous bands not paying us back and also a few retailers we stocked over the time not paying us. So instead this year we concentrated heavily on our gig promoting and have put on well over 50 bands over 2008, which was great fun.

Highlights for 2008's gigs for sure were Little Fish back in March, Liverpool's Billy England, To The Bones, Borderville's headline set in August plus great sets from Chantelle Pike, One Dollar Peep Show, June, The Delta Frequency, the return of 20/20 Vision and our own Smilex! Also we put on some great new local bands like The Cooling Pearls, Vixens, Vultures, She Set Sail and Sonicbob- look out for these bands in 2009. I think though our favourite gigs of the year has to be our Jumble Sale gigs which were a lot of fun.

So  maybe no releases but a hell of a load of gigs and loads more to come for 2009. Release wise  hopefully we shall be putting out some new records and downloads in 2009 with plans for new releases from Smilex including a Mr Shaodow remix in  the spring.

In the meantime the Smilex album '7' is still available via Amazon, HMV etc and also ITUNES > so go & get a copy and support DIY! It's wicked!

Also this year was 5 years since the release of the Youthmovie Soundtrack Stategies release on our label... 5 years on this band are still a great force to be reckoned with, pushing boundaries and working damn hard. Their great new EP Polyp is out now so go and buy that too.

Also thanks to everyone for the support this year, all of you who came to shows, played our shows and also helped us sell cds etc.

Big thanks to Joal (& the Wheatsheaf crew), Becky, Grant and Grace for endless help and dedication this year it's been fun.

Merry Xmas and a happy new year to everyone see you at the Carling Academy on NYE maybe!

Our latest release is by Oxford band Smilex and is called '7'

If you would like to purchase a copy you can do so from either ordering from your local HMV, Zavvi or indie shop as it will be on their system or online from here:

Play.com

HMV.co.uk

Amazon.co.uk

Zavvi.co.uk

Also you can download the album from ITUNES too, if you are more technical minded, but you will miss the beautiful book packaging though then!

Some recent reviews for the album:

 "It is bloody brilliant" www.Oxfordbands.com

"This Oxford band are a sharply intelligent - some might even dare to say intellectual - act. And their new album 7 proves it." Oxford Mail

"7 is sleazy, full of gratuitous X-rated swearing and stories, a howled demand to be noticed that is made all the more effective by the few mellower sections scattered through." www.subba-culture.com

"The British band "Smilex" are back with the new album "7" and this time they deliver us a very professional longplayer. Two years ago I've showed you an EP of the British band and I liked this one a lot. With "7" everything is better and also the production is fantastic, especially for a band without a label." www.sleaze-metal.com

"Balls out rocking..." Ben Myers (journalist for Kerrang!)

"All put together with credible pop ideals, rising and falling, breaking and climaxing, harmonising and clashing and layered like some kind of demonic cake. "Syllabus" and "God Given Right" are the highlights for rising above the punk rock of the rest of the album into something altogether more significant, occasionally sending shivers down spines through the sheer anger on show." www.myspace.com/jblogswebzine

You can now listen to two tracks from Little Fish's session on Quickfix Radio on our player now. These tracks were recorded for Quickfix radio and were produced by the very talented Phill Boywithatoy who spent hours on the radio show with Lee Christian. As a lot of people were unable to listen to the show due to it only being available in the OX4 region we thought we would stick some of the sessions up on our page. First up is a fantastic Little Fish session, more info on Little Fish can be found here:  www.myspace.com/littlefishmusic

Tracks:
Little Fish
- Am I Crazy? (acoustic)
- Error In Your Sunrise (acoustic)

cheers to Phill & Little Fish for the session.

Enjoy!

so it came off ok in the end eh?!

over 300 quid raised for the johnradcliffe kids ward (little people: big needs) and a fun day of  22 diverse local acts over two stages in 11 hrs in the smallest live venue/pub in oxford!

so it was all a bit sleepy at the start - everybody tired and beaten down in the heat of the midday sun as we set up both stages...

2pm smilex's first set: like a practice with less breaks, crowd in front & pass the parcel too!

2.45pm ben phillips entertained us with a few nicely crafted acoustic pop nuggets and a cover of g'nr's classic 'i used to love her' - very much appreciated!

3pm tristan and the troubadours battled growing pains sound-wise but triumphed with style as they showed off material from their forthcoming demo and a song written that day!

3ish luke and marius delighted us all with they melodic interplay and sweet harmonies!

3.45pm skullthrash brought the metal in earnest (plus a mannequin!) the fan blowing paul's locks around during his shredding lead solos and them valiantly overcoming sound issues are prevailing memories as the alcohol and heat start to kick in properly!

3.40pm nikki p feeling like she's hanging at death's door manages to perform a few songs for us - leaving us wondering if she was really ill or just blagging it! awesome voice!

4.15pm the fairly hot chili peppers play a titanic set taking in songs from blood sugar through to stadium arcadium to the enthusastic cheers and kiedis arm gestures from jen smilex and andy verbalkink/tagbae amongst others! faves: parrallel universe, aeroplane!

4pm chris beard shows us his organ in the best possible taste! a really stunning set taking in a rousing cover of springsteen's dancing in the dark! then ran on to run a rival gig! ;-)

4.45pm james bell makes lee's day by doing 'nothing compares 2 u' really well and puts in a high energy set including his own awesome songs  'peppermint girl' and 'chevy chase'!

5.30pm toy1 give it some bongo action with a fitting sunny cover of new order's 'true faith'!

6pm upstairs the delta frequency turn the volume and intensity up to 11 with a storming set that leaves onlookers equally impressed and deafened! one of their best sets ever!

6.15pm andy 'tagbae' douglas recovers from the excitement of the ''chili's'' set with a batch of lovely acoustic early-frusciante style folk songs - his sounds suits the day perfectly!

6.45pm babygravy, one member short tonight play a tight inventive set including a brand new song and all their 'hits' - iona looks great as usual and z has a janet jackson tshirt on!

7pm the black hats fly through on their way to a gig at the jericho to give a set that proves that their songs are every bit as good strppied down as they are full band! great tunes!

7.30pm vestibule show how much they come on in leaps and bounds every set! their spasmodic post hardcore is the most thrilling and best delivered it has ever been! heavy!

7.45pm the family machine take it all in their stride, playing 'lethal drugs cocktail' and 'floers by the roadside' much to everyone's delight and auctioning bassist fila for the cause! :-)

8.15pm the courtesy kill play a stormer! fresh from the studio, they are more well oiled than ever and deliver pop hits one after another with ease! beef gets its first mention of the day!

8.30pm tara milton of nubiles notoriety takes us on a musical vagabond's journey calling to mind cat stevens and looking every bit the iconic rock star while delivering lush tunes!

9pm the walkoff start with a sitdown chat session which should become a regular part of their show then its business as usual and all fiery industrial drum&bass hell breaks loose!

9.15pm ally craig shows us why he is currently oxford's most talked about singer/songwriter! this kid is a genius in the waiting! angular spirals is stunning as is the rest of a set filled with inventive songs and his own brand of caustic wit! again, stunning!

9.45pm verbal kink tear the prot mahon a new anal cavity! speakers topple, sweaty bodies flail and fly, the sound desk gets knocked over 3 times! waxy discharge ends a set of songs that have a rammed to rafters port singing and dancing like they were teens again!

10.30pm smilex play their second set and draw blood four times playing their forthcoming album in its entirety and playing a live game of musical statues! a fitting finish to the day!

there u go - what a load of fun! but would not have been possible without the following:

sound and stage/door hands: deadly (running the downstairs - well hobbling it! hehe! ) phill (who saved my bacon) and dave for sound upstairs and grant and liv and luke for door, filming, sound and other assistance! ally and the port for letting us run riot! thanks!

finally thanks to everyone who showed up! u made the day what is was: awesome! xxxxxxx
