well aside from finishing my "american gangster" review (i liked it, it wasn't the classic a lot of people are making it out to be, but i liked it), i'll be spending the rest of this week figuring out what (if any) instrumental's i've made in the last 6 months or so qualify as possible inclusions on my big once-and-for-all-let's-get-my-career-started demo i'm trying to finish by january. i'm also going to pick out about 10-20 rap instrumentals to give all my old rapper-friends to possibly use, since i don't record outside sessions anymore with any of them, and i figure why not, i'd love to hear some of them use my beats again (i just still don't have any desire to put aside a night and have them over to record in my studio).
so as for the demo, i think it's coming along good. i want to pick 20 really good, on the level of "oh my god, Dave, you really made that!?!?" (like how god wasn't capitalized by Dave was...I rule) instrumentals in all kinds of varying genres. stuff that would sound good in a videogame, in a commercial, on a tv show, and in a movie... maybe even a little rap instrumental stuff if it fits... then i'm going to have some of the people who's opinions i truly care about, pick their favorite 5 out of those 20. then using that information i'm going to narrow down the 12 tracks to include on my demo. then i will mix the tracks together for a smooth listen, fix up some artwork, and have my lovely girlfriend, Gina-Bo-Beena, help me write up a press release.
once that's all done, I will decide on a) trying to get an agent, or b) cold calling/emailing every company I can imagine would possibly want to use my music. every Xbox Live Arcade game maker, every indie videogame studio, every local company that does radio/tv ads... everything. or I'll do both. I guess i'll ask around and figure out what would be best.
that's going to happen in January I'm hoping. I think I only have about 6 or 7 instrumentals that I'm truly happy with as possibles for the 20 tracks to pick from... keep in mind i'm not using ANY old instrumentals from before I built my new recording setup this summer... so it's a little bit more difficult of a task... I can't just pick old great ones, I gotta make all new great ones (sorry Q, that means no "Confrontation").
by then I'll probably also have the MC Randumb & Jewish Dave - "Wasted Potention 2: Da Mixtaype" and D-Mize & Dee. Rockz albums done and burned for everyone's listening enjoyment. so my comedy-rap phase will probably be done. I will still eventually one day start to reminisce and finally get around to making my big ridiculous all inclusive Mp3 Cd with every song we ever did and sell a few of those. maybe make my damn money back... but I digress..
so that's where I'm at with my music and more importantly, with the demo. I'm working hard on it lately (I just said "hard on"), so i'm hoping to have those 20 possibles done by December... then I just have to narrow them down.
