Current mood:  bouncy

Hi everyone,

After much grief from the boys, I am finally going to do some work for this band and will have a lot of fun with my weekly blogs which I hope you will all support with your feedback and comments. Please contact me on ralph@djangouk.com.

OK first off Django will be playing our first SKA gig of the year at the Railway Inn in Winchester, Hampshire, this Saturday 28th February. The gig starts at 8.00pm and promises to be a great night with the infamous Neville Staples from The Specials and Django.

For directions to the Railway Inn in Winchester, please click here. Tickets are £15 but are limited due to the size of the venue and can be purchased on-line or at the door.

We would love to see you guys at the gig!

Ralph.

PS – I've only had 3 kebabs, 1 chinese, no curries – yet but there's still 4 days left – do any of you suffer from this eating disorder I have?

The Django Newsletter, Friday 1st February 2008.

It has already been a busy year for us. New songs in the set, some big gigs being booked and some live video footage soon to be uploaded to YouTube.

GIGS

Portsmouth Guildhall.
Our next gig is on Saturday 8th March. We are playing in the Best of Portsmouth Showcase at the Portsmouth Guildhall. If you need any tickets, please buy through us. We don't make any money on them, but we do need to sell a certain allocation. For more information, contact Steve Gale on 07926 997 779. You can also get information about the other bands playing by clicking here.

O'Neills, Winchester.
We return to Winchester on Saturday 22nd March. We had a great time during our last visit, it would be great to see even more dancers this time. Unfortunately we will  have to try and keep our brass section out of the way of wandering hands this time.

Jet's International Ska Festival.

We will also be lining up at Jet's International Ska Festival on Friday 25th April. There are some great bands playing over the three days, visit http://www.freewebs.com/skasplash/ for more details.

Prince Buster.
And to top of March, we will be supporting Prince Buster at the Bournemouth Opera House on Saturday 26th April. More details on this gig available by clicking here.

Southsea Bandstand
We have confirmed this week that we are playing on Sunday 17th August. This is usually a very well attended gig (provided the weather is ok). More details closer to the time, but at the moment, it looks like both Bang Bang Lulu and The Hi-Watts will be playing with us.

There are more gigs booked, a full list is at the end of the newsletter.

VIDEO
We will soon have some live footage posted at YouTube. Keep an eye on the website, we expect it will be ready in about two weeks.

THANKS.
A big thanks to everyone who has come to see the band. Again, special thanks go to Mike and all the staff at the Woodman for putting up with the abuse and racket we impose on them. Thanks also to Jenny at the RTSC for all your help.

As always, feel free to send any feedback to us via the website, email (info@djangouk.com) or MySpace.

17th-18th November 2007, Django in the studio.

During November we were in the studio to try and get some tracks done for MySpace. The results are now up ("It's Over" and "We the people").

It was also our first time as a complete band recording, obviously we are all quite pleased with the results. Matt (the sound engineer) did a great job keeping us all happy with tea and coffee, we did our bit by buying him pizza. Two days of recording, starting with the drums, bass and a rhythm guitar part. All other parts were recorded one at a time, which really puts the spotlight on individuals and results in much winding up ! !

The pictures give some idea of the laugh we all had. Although we have got two good tracks from the time in the studio, the time will definitely be remembered as two days of constant piss taking rather than any real work. And yes, we are saving up to go back again.

P.S Massive thanks and respect to Matt,Phil and Dave at The Whitehouse for their Knowledge, expertise and patience !

(you have made a bunch of balding middle aged geezers very pleased with themselves)

The pictures.

Rich getting ready to rumble.

Tony trying not to look like he knows a picture is being taken, and Vijay completely oblivious to everything.

Liam demonstrating his concentration abilities.

Trev demonstrating his ability to smile.

Matt hard at work

Vijay and Ralph discussing who bought the last beers.

Vijay after drinking the last beer.

Liam before his flight.

Rich relaxing after the event.

Obligatory picture of the mixing desk

Liam dreaming again about the last time he took Viagra.

Ralph preparing for a monster singing session

Current mood:  jubilant

A big big thanks to to everyone who came along to O'Neills in Winchester last night. We had a superb time, we couldn't have possibly expected a reception like that for our first gig in Winchester. And yes, we will be back soon.

And anyone who took pictures last night (there were a few), we would really appreciate it if you could email them to us (info@djangouk.com).

Many thanks to Dave Chinnery for the following review.

NEVILLE STAPLE/THE BEAT/D'JANGO-

LANDMARC BOURNEMOUTH 11TH-MARCH-2007

Just off Bournemouth square you will find a converted grade II listed church that has been turned in to one new brilliant music venue with great facilities and brilliant acoustics. The Landmarc has a capacity of around 500 and tonight the place looked virtually full , I cannot think of a better way to spend a Sunday night listening to some cracking live music . Tonight's line-up put together by the SOUND OF THE SUBURBS Lewis Hawkins , gives a great range of music from the world of Ska.

First up D'jango pronounced "Jan-go" who are a newly formed band from other such great ska bands as 2-Tonic, Orange Street, Urban Rhythm and Loonee Tunes. They put together a brilliant set of tunes which got the evening going, ending with a brilliant version of the Bad Manners classic "Feel like Jumping" which was very well received by the Landmarc audience, considering this was their 1st gig with this new line-up they did brilliantly especially as they were playing support to some of their musically hero's. I understand that the band were a bit nervous before going on stage, however it certainly did not show.I am looking forward to seeing a lot more of them in the future.

Neville Staple hit the stage with "Man @ C+A" -Warning warning nuclear attack ........ This is the 1st night of a 21 date tour of the UK of both these great heavyweights of the ska world .Neville Staple has surrounded himself with some very talented musicians who re-produce the hits by The specials and Fun boy Three perfectly. As soon as the band strikes it's 1st note the dance floor is soon filled with eager fans dancing along to the sound of the ska beat. I have seen Neville and his band live many times and they never fail to disappoint always producing a brilliant evenings entertainment .Tonight for me the highlights were great versions of the Fun Boy Three classic "The Lunatics have taken over the asylum" and a truly awesome version of "Nite Club". Running overtime due to an extended encore of "Concrete Jungle" and "Ghost Town" the set ended just as it has started with these two more excellent Specials classics.

The Beat have been touring with this current line-up for a number of years , a good band of musicians who produce a mix of ska and reggae with rap thrown in for good measure. Despite initial problems with sound and some other unknown on-stage distraction The Beat carried on professionally with their opening track "Muscle Ska". Ranking Roger came on stage wearing a one piece flying suit which he latter discarded as it must have been extremely hot with all his dancing about on stage.Roger and his young son Ranking Junior front the band and work really well together producing some very spontaneous performances with their dance routines and off the cuff raps. The lengendry late Joe Strummer was paid tribute to when they belted out their own version of The Clash's "Rock the Casbah".

Most of the audience tonight by their reaction just wanted to hear the tracks made famous by the original band , as during newer songs they seemed somewhat impatient. When the tracks did come "Ranking Full Stop" , "Too Nice To Talk To" and of course "Mirror in the Bathroom" they were played to perfection.

All in all a wonderful night in a really amazing surroundings of the Landmarc Bournemouth's modern new music venue. With many more similar nights arranged ,keep an eye on the website links below for details.SEE YOU DOWN THE FRONT ??
